Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on May 1, 2020May 1, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SASSY TRADER looks yet another nice Sean & Jake Casey youngster. Don to Shoot, Charleton Eddie, Just a Pinch and now Sassy Trader. Looked speedy at the trials and then accelerated nicely when asked for an effort at the 200 dropping off the rest of the field. From the gate should nearly lead them up and looks hard to beat on debut. FISH HOOK missed the kick at trials which is a big concern. If leaving cleanly looks to have a level of ability. PLAYING FOR KEEPS controlled his Belmont trial and was winning from the 800. Good effort but unlikely to cross here. NOBELLITY may end up last but sustained a run in her trial. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – SASSY TRADER WIN RACE 2 MISS FROST could not have been more impressive at her Luke Fernie debut. Winner of three from 6 (one disqualification), she has always shown huge upside ever since her eye-catching debut in the Gimcrack at a 2 year old. She only ran past outer provincial and country types in a weak C1 fresh but did it in style. She can again launch late but will be very, very short. SIR MAMBO fought on well after being held up when turning for home. POINT TAKEN drops back in distance and the win on Good Friday against the pattern was huge. ROUND THE POINT is in form and should again kick through to lead from the inside. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – MISS FROST WIN RACE 3 GATES OF BABYLON has a couple of key gear changes including senior rider and noted front running hoop Mitchell Pateman into the saddle. This is a horse who seems to grow a leg when he is allowed to roll from the 600 and that’s exactly how Pateman rides front runners. He controls the speed and should be hard to run down. SOLID AZZA can reel off some huge late sections on her day. She will concede a fairly big head start but is going well. ALTANI is going through the grades quickly and impressively. She has relished being ridden cold. SNIPPY MISS has been racing consistently for months and from the draw should get a plumb run. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – GATES OF BABYLON WIN RACE 4 BLACKWATER BAY has taken a little while to hit his straps but he is starting to show glimpses of ability that resemble his brother Come Play With Me. Backs up off 7 days from an emphatic maiden victory which was run at breakneck speed. If he can hold a position from the gun draw he looks hard to beat. TRADENSIA put the writing on the wall fresh against Son of a God and Tommy Blue before duly saluting next start. Comes across from the wide gate and with any luck is right in the finish. BABY BLUES draws gate 1 and has the necessary tactical speed to hold the box seat. Big run against the older horses last start. DIVIDE THE SEA has been going well enough to figure in the minor end. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – BLACKWATER BAY WIN RACE 5 RIVALRY GALORE will be a bandwagon that many are sticking with from last weekend and others are jumping on for the first time. Two starts ago was wide the trip and then flushed even deeper turning for home before coming again late. Last weekend was held up the entire race and never got a crack at them. Looks ready to win another one. BRITISH BESSY was super first-up when chasing a hot speed and sustaining a run. Set a task from gate 10 with 60.5kg but she looks like winning a lot of staying races this preparation. DARK CHOICE won well last start and the former Oaks winner is only better suited at 2200. DEFIANTLY may sneak under the guard. Blow out chance. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – RIVALRY GALORE EACHWAY RACE 6 FLIRTINI could not have done any more first-up with 60kg when chasing talented duo Flower of War and Angelic Ruler. She runs into another absolute star of WA racing in Fabergino here but drops down to a more suitable 56.5kg and should be able to stalk the speed in behind Fabergino and Mervyn. Gets her chance to turn the tables from the Crawford Stakes. FABERGINO ran them into the ground down the straight at Flemington last start. She is all class and Tiarnna Robertson is training her to her strengths. No reason why she can’t keep her impeccable fresh record going. MERVYN is the X-Factor horse. Can he cross Fabergino? I’m expecting they’ll try. ELECTRIC LIGHT could end up second last in the small field and her trial was only fair but she normally brings it race day. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – FLIRTINI WIN RACE 7 AMELIA’S ON FIRE had a horrible map to contend with first-up against the older horses. She looked destined to tramp three deep the trip or be dragged back to last. Was super impressive getting as close as she did when rattling late and from the far better draw can win second-up. CATHERINE WHEEL was an alarming drifter last start and ran accordingly. She’s better than that and can kick through to lead here. STATE ATTORNEY looks like doing it tougher than last start from the awkward draw. TYCOON LEGEND is again back racing outside his grade but that doesn’t seem to worry him. Going super. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 6 – 11 Suggested Bet – AMELIA’S ON FIRE WIN RACE 8 KELVIN comes out of 3 year old racing carrying big weights and gets in against the older horses with only 54.5kg. Drawn gate 12 of 14 but Chris Graham should be able to get him across and at worst sit in the breeze but more than likely can cross and find the fence. No reason why he can’t give some serious cheek. MOSCHARD was a tough watch first-up and probably even tougher second-up. Going to need a lot of luck again. FESTIVAL MISS rates through the roof from her effort last weekend but has a very bad draw to contend with. MEGAZONE really caught the eye first-up. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – KELVIN EACHWAY RACE 9 LAUFEY has put together two very impressive runs. Hit the line powerfully in the Grandstand Cup behind Media Baron and then was left flat footed but finished off well late behind Utgard Loki, British Bessy and Lorentinio in an extremely fast run mile. Again comes back in grade and is going to need a W.Pike special from the draw but we get a price to find out if the Wizard can weave his magic. NICE GO was a blackbook effort last start. SHE’S ALIGHT steps up in trip but again draws in the Swan River. WEE RIPPER won well last start but this is harder opposition. Numbers: 7 – 12 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – LAUFEY EACHWAY RACE 10 LAVERROD is a top class 3 year old. Backs up off 7 days from a strong win against the older horses in a 72+ and now into a 78+ drops down 1.5kg to 57.5. He should position up well from the draw and in a fast run race be poised to pounce just off them. Hard to knock him. MASSIMO was a big drifter first-up in what looked a fairly unsuitable race on paper. Ran well enough to go close second-up. CAROCAPO is racing in career best form and regardless of where he settles he is a legitimate winning chance. PYM’S ROYALE fresh and back in trip must be respected. Numbers: 6 – 10 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – LAVERROD WIN Quaddie (Race 7 – 10) 2,3,5,6,7,11 3,4,6,7,13 5,7,8,9,11,12 6,10 Market Market
