Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on January 16, 2020January 20, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 MONEY MATTERS romped in last start at Bunbury carrying 60kg and sitting outside the leader. He looks destined to take up the same position here and should get favourite backers off to a good start. That race was almost 4L faster than average and he looks hard to beat. GUESTEEN looks the logical danger and second elect on paper. Never gave up the chase behind smart Zoustar youngster Indian Pacific and 1200m looks more suitable. OHBEEH crossed, lead and controlled to win on debut. Looks for the fence again. UNIBELLE clocked some encouraging late splits on debut. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – MONEY MATTERS WIN Race 2 WAR ANTHEM has his convictions and has had 9 attempts at breaking his maiden. He won’t get a better opportunity than this. Drawn perfectly to sit one out and one back with main rivals conceding him a head start. Last chance for him. PRINCELY PACKAGE has run in almost exclusively tougher races than this throughout his career. Could bob up at a price. BRUCE ALMIGHTY had no luck at all first-up. Should get across from a sticky draw. DIAMOND TRADE looks destined to go back to near last from the draw. Needs to be big to win from there. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – WAR ANTHEM WIN Race 3 BROOKLYN PIER looks likely to find the fence first and from there Jason Brown is unlikely to hand-up. Two year olds thrive when finding the rail and even though this colt trialed in blinkers and doesn’t have them on for race day he should give backers a genuine eachway sight. MADAM TORIO could not have been more impressive at trials. She may be forced to face the breeze from the gate but looks well above average. CONVALESCE trialed Monday and looked to have a motor and ability. SUNNYSILK has race experience but a tough draw to contend with. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – BROOKLYN PIER EACHWAY Race 4 SON OF BACCHUS has been knocking on the door all preparation and while there are genuine concerns around his ability to find the winning post he was big in defeat last weekend. Backs up off 7 days, drops 3kg, maps to box seat behind speedy pair Patristic and Butterlea Lad. He gets his chance and deserves to be favourite. PATRISTIC should find the front and give Kristy Bennett a wonderful opportunity to ride her first Saturday winner. MIDNIGHT SKY is well placed with a 3kg claim. From three back the fence she is dangerous. BUTTERLEA LAD is honest and consistent. Numbers: 7 – 9 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – SON OF BACCHUS WIN Race 5 VALOUR ROAD looks the winner of the Miss Andretti Stakes on paper. Belter will run them along and from the gate Pike should be stalking the entire trip. Had absolutely no luck at all throughout the Summer Carnival. Finally draws a gate and loves racing off a let-up. BELTER was great at his return to racing when chasing Fabergino around in the Summer Scorcher. That race was 5L faster than average and he was strong on speed. PROFIT STREET is going well and always runs a race. SNOW LORD next best. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – VALOUR ROAD WIN Race 6 ALIMENTARIA goes up sharply in weight with the 3kg claimer coming off but in these staying events a senior rider is worth far from than the weight. Went down less than a length last start when shuffled back at crucial stages. Pike will have her in a striking position and she looks hard to beat. MACKENZIE BROOKE looks the logical danger and is progressing nicely through the grades. Genuine stayer who will likely tow-ball the favourite. PLAYS THE GAME is just about ready to run a race. Interesting to see where he lands in running. CELTIC COURT an improver at a price drawn soft off 7 days. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – ALIMENTARIA WIN Race 7 WHY CHOOSE HER is low flying at the minute. If McGruddy can get an ounce of luck from the draw she will get into a nice position midfield and can make the favourite stretch his neck at an eachway quote. COMING AROUND is clearly the best horse in the race but from the draw looks likely to either settle three deep the trip or last. GUNNAGO needs room and needs speed on. Not sure conditions will suit. GO CRYING can run a race fresh. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – WHY CHOOSE HER EACHWAY Race 8 ESSENTIAL SPICE looks very hard to hold out from the draw and after the luxurious 3kg claim. Gets in with only 58kg and Chris Graham rode her well to her first-up victory. The Fabergino form is clearly the most superior reference and outside the winner she was the best run of the beaten brigade. Back into a ratings race she should give a big account. SARACINO is double nominated with the Mungrup sprint on Sunday but in this race looks like getting a very soft lead. UNDISCLOSED is flying but the draw hurts. PLUTOCRACY comes across and should find the breeze. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – ESSENTIAL SPICE WIN Race 9 STIRLING ESTATE is not the most eye-catching galloper and has been around a long time in this grade but it is hard to argue that he is not in almost career best form. His last two runs have been excellent and he has always been a better 1000m horse. From the draw should land a prominent position behind a solid tempo and can run a race at juicy double figures. IMPERIAL VENUS has a few tricks but has been trialing well for a new stable. If ever there was a gate 1, W.Pike horse it was him. TO RISE AGAIN and AY TEE EMM should both be in the first few in running and are strong on-speed types. Number: 12 – 8 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – STIRLING ESTATE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,3 3,8 1,2 1,5,6,8,12 Market Market
