Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on March 15, 2024March 15, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 AT YOUR SERVICE was the eye catching run in the Bustling race and with a 2kg weight swing, race day experience on her side, a barrier to work with and added fitness she looks one of many chances in a top quality 2 year old race. She’ll go round eachway and if she repeats her debut run with a touch more luck then she’s a live chance. BUSTLING could not have been more impressive on debut and the clock backed it up. He sat in the breeze over 1200m, they went 2.5L faster than 2 year old average and he was a dominant winner. No reason he can’t remain undefeated. SNIPER’S SON was huge on debut and looked sharp in his jump out. KIMBERLEY ROSE covered the ground effortlessly at Lark Hill. Just not sure where she gets from a horror barrier. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 2 – 13 Suggested Bet – AT YOUR SERVICE EACHWAY RACE 2 ALMIGHTY CLASS already holds a slot in the $5 million Tabtouch Quokka on April 20th and he resumes in a 72+ 1000 off the back of a really impressive trial. First-up last campaign he broke his maiden in the 3 year old Classic when beating Ripcord by 1.5L eased down and then he was narrowly defeated in the Belgravia by Super Smink after breezing. Looks the winner with even luck and punters look a sniff of seeing black figures. We wait. CUT THE TALK and STREET PARADE are both natural jump and run types who go well fresh and are drawn right alongside him. They’ll both give a good sight first-up. PREMIUM CHOICE is a talented sprinter but concedes weight and a head start to Almighty Class. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – ALMIGHTY CLASS WIN RACE 3 ABOVE THE PEG always runs well fresh over 1200m, in fact, in his last three preparations he has finished 2nd in a 72+ (beaten a neck), second in a 66+ (beaten a neck) and third in a 72+ beaten 1.2L. Didn’t trial in blinkers, had a junior rider aboard and now on race day finds himself mapped to stalk the speed behind Kelvinator and Ice Pick Nick and should be within striking distance. Nice set up for him at odds. ICE PICK NICK won a 72+ 1200 at his first start in WA and Sisu Warrior franked the form winning last weekend at Bunbury. Has to be hard to beat again. ANGEL UNDERCOVER is a talented filly with a big turn of foot on her. KELVINATOR can either lead Ice Pick Nick or sit on him. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – ABOVE THE PEG EACHWAY RACE 4 MADAM KISSES is a hard mare to catch but in a race with a tonne of speed (Sonoftheboss, Cheeky Charlotte, Golden Fighter, Just So Sassy and Norich) she’ll get her chance over the last 100m. Got caught up in a lot of traffic last start in the key form reference race and if she got clear on straightening she would have finished a lot closer than sixth beaten 2.8L. Kept out of trouble she can give this a shake at double figures. SONOFTHEBOSS was out bobbed by Golden Fighter first-up. He’s always going to be hard in the market and he’s always going to be hard to run down, but, are we sure he leads? CHEEKY CHARLOTTE is extremely quick and comes back to 1000m and drops 3kg in weight. She’s a big chance if crossing early. GOLDEN FIGHTER was brave from the breeze last start and snuck under the radar. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet – MADAME KISSES EACHWAY RACE 5 LORD GANNICUS was beaten a half head by Tin Chooks (subsequent winner) and then last week was beaten a nose by Forever Boy. Backs up off 7 days, finds himself in a Westspeed Platinum for the first time in his life and should get every mortal hope from barrier 2. No doubt many punters have already given him life but for the rest of us it’s now or never with him. BOAB BOY was too gritty for FULL OF MERIT last start. With the engagement of Madi Derrick it brings BOAB BOY back to a very winnable weight. FULL OF MERIT has only won one from 12 but she’s got upside. DAD’S BIGHEADED gets a bit of weight relief with Luke Campbell going on. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – LORD GANNICUS WIN RACE 6 OWN THE QUEEN, MISS SKYHIGH and STARATING ran the trifecta in the Ascot 1000 Guineas and realistically there’s no reason why they can’t run the trifecta again the Natasha Stakes. MISS SKYHIGH was the sectionally superior run in the Ascot 1000 Guineas and gave the impression that she would only improve over further. With an extra 400m and a 2kg weight swing on OWN THE QUEEN thinking she can turn the tables. OWN THE QUEEN is drawn a bit sticky in a race with absolutely no speed. She’s raw but she’s good. STARATING found the line well to run third last start. KINELLINS LEGACY brings the alternate form. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – MISS SKYHIGH WIN Same Race Multi – Own The Queen (Top 2) + Miss Skyhigh (Top 2) Own The Queen ran the quinella in the Ascot 1000 Guineas and a fortnight later the expectation is that they’ll likely run the quinella again in the Natasha Stakes. While taking the equal favourites in a Same Race Multi might seem like a cop out (probably is) you’re at least getting a fixed odds price about a quinella bet that will likely pay far less on the tote. RACE 7 WUBIN GOLD was a great run first-up. She carried 59kg, she sat outside of a strong tempo and she was only run down late by a talented filly in Angel Undercover who had a nice run into the race and a pull in the weights. 3 year old Plate into a 60+ Graduation – like, 59kg down to 55.5kg – really like, and mapped to get a soft run close handy to the speed – love. Ticks boxes. DIABLO LAD is another lightly raced 3 year old who likely leads and looks tough. Expect he’ll measure up. THEHORSEMAN won a 66+ last start. 1400m specialist who runs for Luke Campbell. CERRIDWYN was massive last start when three deep the trip. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – WUBIN GOLD WIN RACE 8 A LOT OF GOOD MEN got no luck last start. He looked like he was going to head across to the breeze safely in the first 100m but all of a sudden those underneath him kicked up and he was forced to park three deep the trip without any cover at any stage. Did a super job to stick on into second and with yet another 1kg swing on Russian To The Bar from their recent feature clashes he looks ready to finally win one in his own right. RUSSIAN TO THE BAR just keeps lifting the bar. He hit a real flat spot at the 600 last start but once he worked through it he ran right through the line. AUTUMN REBEL had no luck at any stage in that same race while BUCKET’S RIDGE showed that he’s not far behind them. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – A LOT OF GOOD MEN WIN RACE 9 COSMIC CRUSADER was very well supported in betting first-up in the Lex Piper Stakes and on straightening it looked for a fleeting moment like the punters were spot on. He faded noticeably in the final 200 and clearly needed the outing. Back to a 66+, drops 1kg and Donna Riordan swaps blinkers for visors. Nice placement. ROYAL TORONADO also drops out of the Listed 3 year old series to take on the older horses. He can sustain a run and will be winding up hard late. SAPPHIRE STREET is the third 3 year old in the race and while on trial at 1600m does have a sharp turn of foot. MATERIAL WITNESS looks to have found a race in which he can lead. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet – COSMIC CRUSADER WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2 1,3,4,6,8 1,2,3 4,8,9,10 Market Market
