Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on December 22, 2023December 22, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WATCH ME ROCK was enormous on debut. He was drawn barrier 16 of 16 and covered ground throughout to the point where he was three and four deep stages. Massive effort to keep coming in the late stages and here second-up he could jump from barrier 7 after the withdrawal of the emergencies. Improves for the outing, looks like 1400m won’t worry him in the slightest and with even luck should be going close. PLAYING RIO maps to get a sweet run. His third to Flash Max and Hymns Of Elladair at Pinjarra last preparation is easily good enough to win this. Logical danger. ELITE FASHIONS was a sound return behind a nice horse. IDENTIFIER can save ground along the fence. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 12 – 11 Suggested Bet – WATCH ME ROCK WIN RACE 2 SINFUL LIVING was 6 weeks between trial and debut and ran really well behind Define Beautiful. She was pressured throughout, forced to make an early move on straightening and left a sitting duck to be run down. Takes big benefit fitness wise and experience wise from that outing and Rachel King should be able to slide forward into a prominent position in running. Nice assignment for her at start number two. WEST STAR won his trial impressively and ran decent time on the day in doing so. Wanted to lay inwards under pressure but continued to find the line. Barrier 9 of 9 is no help. CASH FLOW can come out positive and the rail is a big benefit on debut. STREET BAND has a set of shades going on after returning to a 400m jump out. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – SINFUL LIVING WIN RACE 3 KING CARTEL and SNIPPY WHICH both come through the Final Siren race which looks the right form reference. KING CARTEL loomed on straightening but couldn’t quite go on with it, while SNIPPY WHICH was run off his legs in the middle stages before balancing up and attacking the line hard. SNIPPY WHICH has a kill over Esprit Garcon and hopefully here second-up he can hold a position from the inside draw. KING CARTEL can come out positive and land a really prominent spot over the speed. LEADING TADDY tried hard behind Stormchaser and Blue Lagoon last Saturday and looks the third big winning chance on the back-up. ROCKET JUICE is flying, but conditions unlikely to suit him. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – SNIPPY WHICH WIN RACE 4 BLACK SPIRIT was attacked in running last Saturday. She was forced to absorb a tonne of pressure in the early and middle stages and yet still somehow kicked into the corner before being gunned down by Let’sdeal and Billy Ray. Backs up off 7 days (winner on the back-up previously), drops in grade from a 72+ into a 63+ and sits on top of the speed with an Easterly breeze at her back. Sure to run an honest eachway race. MEGAMI comes through the same race and probably should have beaten her home. She’s a well noted back-up mare (2 wins off 7 days) and provided she doesn’t get shuffled too far back should go close. NOD AND SMILE has blinkers re-attached and his effort last Saturday was huge when parked deep throughout. PLAYZ WITH FIRE is first time at a mile and settles a fair way off them. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 12 – 9 Suggested Bet – BLACK SPIRIT EACHWAY RACE 5 VALENCY looks well placed back into a ratings race. After winning a 0MWLY and a 66+ at the back end of the Belmont season she was aimed at the Fillies and Mares series and finished second to Amber Glide in the Jungle Mist and third to Baby Paris and subsequent Starstruck winner Rusty Dreams in the Jungle Dawn. Drawn to get a soft run and can hold a position. COLD SHIZZLE really attacked the line with Magnificent Andy in a 78+ last week. He’s continually getting under the guard. GIFT OF THE HEART tried hard last week and with only 52.5kg could be hard to run down. CORN COB has another tricky barrier to navigate but has returned in great order yet again. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – VALENCY WIN RACE 6 MAROCCHINO won this race last year beating Steinem and Ironclad. He gets conditions to suit with an Easterly breeze blowing all day at Ascot on Saturday. Troy Turner returns to the saddle (last 5 wins are with Troy riding) and he can control and dictate terms from the front. Very hard to look past. NUMERIAN is a Group 2 WFA 2200m winner previously off 35 days (PJ O’Shea Stakes at Eagle Farm) and he’s placed twice off 28 days and once off 42 days (in a Group One WFA 2000 if you don’t mind!). One of many chances in a competitive race. ZOUMON should be peaking fourth-up and can park outside of Marocchino in the run. CASINO SEVENTEEN sits off them and has last crack. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – MAROCCHINO WIN Same Race Multi – Marocchino (Top 2) + Numerian (Top 3) Field of 6 where the likely maps sees Marocchino leading, Zoumon in the breeze, Numerian stalking in third, Startrade and Casino Seventeen midfield and The Velvet Queen saved up for one run at the rear of the field. From there Marocchino should do enough to kick hard on straightening and hold on to finish Top 2 and thinking that Numerian enjoys the gun run over the first 1600m and then peels out before the corner. Top 2 + Top 3. RACE 7 HOLY ENCHANTMENT is going to need to join the moving line from a fair way out and is going to need Brad Parnham to pick the right horse to follow into the race. He won a 72+ first-up and then was horribly unlucky second-up when stopped in traffic on multiple occasions. In this race last year he ran third behind Queen Alina and Playhouse Patron but this preparation he looks like he’s in better form. Not an easy task to gather them up with 60kg but he’s the class runner. KERMAN ROCK is building. Good effort to pick up and sprint with 60kg last start and if he can roll to the top he’ll get them uncomfortable. PLAYHOUSE PATRON showed last start that he can take full advantage of the inside barrier. WESTOZI brings alternate form from Geraldton. He’s got X-Factor. Numbers: 1 – 11 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – HOLY ENCHANTMENT WIN RACE 8 STORMY TAWNY is working her way through the grades impressively. Last start they flew along in the early and middle stages and then she let rip with a big turn of foot down the centre. She’s drawn to get a similar run midfield with cover and provided she stays in touch with them she’s got the fire power to make a race of it late. DUCHESS OF GOSSIP has 59kg and a really tricky map. She’s drawn outside of Ex Sport Girl / Ima Single Gal so where does she get? EX SPORT GIRL only won a 58+ at Albany first-up but she’s now got 54kg and can lead or box seat. HARMIKA is going super but the barrier is a cruel blow. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – STORMY TAWNY WIN RACE 9 DOUBLE SPICE looks to get a great stalking run behind a ridiculously fast tempo. Capricorn Man, Ain’t No Other Man, Baalbek and Playthatfunky Music are all looking to find the fence and if he was to jump Go Go Grommet can muster quickly. For Steve Parnham and Double Spice it’s a case of holding his position and enjoying a nice flowing run behind them before being put into the contest on straightening. Liked his effort behind subsequent winner Devine Belief last start from off-speed. Worth a throw at the stumps. SUPERSESSION and LENIENCY are both really talented swoopers. They’ll concede a decent headstart but if the leaders fold up late watch for them right over the top. PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC is going to have to burn the candle at both ends. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – DOUBLE SPICE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,3,5 1,2,3,4,11 1,3,4,5,7,8 3,5,8 Market Market
