Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on November 9, 2023November 9, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SCENIC GEORGE has the race day experience on his side and considering the run he endured on debut he was still okay to be only beaten 7L. He sat wide throughout after being a half step slow and then over-raced in the middle stages. If he can step cleanly here, take natural improvement from his debut performance and hold a position in running then he looks to have found a winnable race. ONEMORETWOMANY and THINK LIKA WINNER both come through the same 1000m trial at Belmont Park and both trialled very well. Both look to do things right and both look to be professional. AH KUM covered ground in his trial and kept coming through the line. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – SCENIC GEORGE WIN RACE 2 THE BOSS LADY ran well on debut behind talented pair Insyde Success and Tycoon Harry before winning a Northam 1100m maiden and a midweek 3yo 1200. Maps to get a similar stalking run to where she won from last start and Michael Lane attaches a pair of blinkers for the first time. She’ll park on Sonoftheboss/Snow Prince/Barney’s World and is dangerous late. BARNEY’S WORLD gets in with a winnable 56kg after the claim for Luke Campbell. Only narrowly edged out by Zipaway three back when riding the speed. RUN PATTIE RUN couldn’t have been more impressive on debut when gunning down Weapon’s Hot. Looks to have real upside. SONOFTHEBOSS dominated them over the short course at Northam. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – THE BOSS LADY WIN RACE 3 DIAMOND SCENE has returned a bigger and better horse this preparation under the tutelage of Donna Riordan. Gunned down Penny On The Queen in the shadows of the post first-up at 1600m and then went to 1800m and safely held talented 3 year old Pleasure Cruise when parking in the breeze and proving too tough. Looks like he’ll stay all day and when it comes to these Apprentice Cups you look to the top of the apprentice pecking order. L.Campbell 3 votes. STRIKE NOW won a 66+ 1800 two back and then was held up the majority of the home straight last start when looking to have plenty to offer. Going super and Brayden Gaerth justifiably can feel stiff only getting 2 votes on recent form. BERNBRAE put the writing on the wall behind Diamond Scene last start. MISS INTENTION is flying. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – DIAMOND SCENE WIN RACE 4 ON THE FULL gets a chance to lead being drawn inside of Gorgeous Gus, Cruise To Victory and Here For Cheques. If he can work his way to the top then he’s more than capable of kicking hard into the corner and making a race of it at an eachway price. Nothing wrong with the Ruler Rocket / Capricorn Man form against his name and finding the fence rather than the breeze could be a key difference in this race. DEAMBER is lightly raced and knows how to get the job done. Comes back to 1200m and has bounded on jumping at her last two outings. Just needs to keep in touch early. PLAYZ WITH FIRE was a great return. Just tends to get a fair way back. FASHION STAKES was a very quiet trial and gets the right run fresh. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet – ON THE FULL EACHWAY RACE 5 DESENNAE looks to have a wonderful map in his favour. Big Screen rolls, Mountain Ash rolls and that should allow Michael Poy and Desennae to park on their backs and enjoy a lovely tow into the race with only 54.5kg on his back. Starting to put it all together and gets a 1.5kg weight swing on Cosmic Crusader and a much better barrier/map from their last encounter. COSMIC CRUSADER dropped back to 1400m last start and then got held up in traffic at a crucial stage. He’s the obvious danger and a deserving favourite. BENJI’S is a proven weight carrier and clearly not an apprentices horse. First-up he split Pompey and Sentimental Hero with Let’s Galahvant behind them. PLAYHOUSE PATRON is always going to be up against it at Ascot. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – DESENNAE WIN RACE 6 CASINO SEVENTEEN was huge first-up in the Northam Cup. It was a meeting where everything that was leading/against the fence was winning and nothing down the centre was making any ground at all. Off that effort he drops 1kg, draws to box seat on the back of stablemate Pompey and from there provided he gets a clear crack at them he looks awfully hard to beat. ANOTHER CHINO is quickly working into form and he didn’t get the chance to build much momentum in the Northam Cup. He’s suited to drawing wide. POMPEY is on trial at 1800m but he’s as tough as they come. RIVER RUBICON also tests the waters at 1800. He’s classy. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 12 – 4 Suggested Bet – CASINO SEVENTEEN WIN RACE 7 ROPE THEM IN was enormous first-up in the Belgravia Stakes. He was forced to cover a stack of additional ground when parking 3 deep outside the leaders and fought on bravel to finish 4th only 1L off Super Smink and Almighty Class. He draws in close in the Fairetha and can hold a position right over the speed. Looks a nice set up for him. SHOOTING SPIRIT had no right to win on debut and the horse he ran down is really talented (Our Nemesis). Real X-Factor. A LOT OF GOOD MEN has found the 1000m of the Max Simmonds Stakes and the 1200m of the Belgravia too short and sharp for him. He’s screaming out for 1400/1600. INVESTMENT STRATEGY gets 1.5kg on Zipaway and should nearly cross them here. Numbers: 3 – 13 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – ROPE THEM IN EACHWAY RACE 8 BUSTLER was a solid return to racing in the Eurythmic Stakes. He was drawn barrier 10 of 13 in that race and had to make a few different tactical moves at different stages in the race. In the end he had the back of Karli’s Karma but couldn’t sprint with her in the finish. She is a class mare and she did have a 4.5kg weight pull on him so all things considered it was an encouraging effort. Gets a much better run here and should be right place, right time. TRIX OF THE TRADE snuck home along the fence in the same race and caught the eye. He’s in good nick. MAROCCHINO was a shock winner of the Asian Beau at 100-1 but every furlong was faster than G3 average – he didn’t pinch it, he ran them into the ground. VALOUR ROAD will need the three deep line to build in his favour. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – BUSTLER EACHWAY Same Race Multi – Bustler (Top 4) + Trix Of The Trade (Top 4) This is a wide open edition of the Lee Steere Stakes and no matter how you play the Same Race Multi you’ll be getting good prices because this race should be eachway the field and has 6 – 8 live chances. Buster and Trix Of The Trade both come through the Eurythmic Stakes where they got to the line well and should only improve second-up. Both suited by WFA conditions and drawn to get nice midfield runs. RACE 9 MYSTIC JANE exploded away from them first-up after tracking a fast tempo. With Playthatfunkymusic engaged it’s likely to be a similarly run race here and she’s mapped to get a near identical run in transit. Coming up in grade but Meryl Hayley has produced 6 winners from 26 starters over the last 90 days: 23% SR, 70% POT. Yard is flying and she’ll go round a juicy eachway price. PEARLY NUGGET was targeted in betting fresh but didn’t quite let down. Drawn to get a nice run here. PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC needs to bring his Goldfields form to town but it’s hard to argue with the way he’s going. ROCKIN’ RUPERT is hard to catch but racing well. Numbers: 11 – 12 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – MYSTIC JANE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,6 1,2,3,5,7,9,13 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,13 1,11,12 Market Market
