Scott Embry’s Friday Geraldton Preview Posted on March 3, 2021March 3, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MACHALI had her first start in WA and ran a narrow second behind Out of Fashion. This race may only have 7 horses but really should be at least $4 the field because on recent ratings there is <1.5L best to worst on paper. Looks a live chance but many of them are. RETURN TO OZ repeatedly went around short in provincial maiden company last preparation and the campaign before. Recent trial strong and strikes a weak race. FIREBRACE has been there abouts all preparation. Troy Turner into the saddle does catch the eye. ROBYN’S SON should find the top. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – MACHALI WIN RACE 2 ZANGIEF has blinkers on first time and travels up to the Midwest from the metro area for Team Pearce. Hasn’t fired a shot since the debut run when running third behind Sassy Trader. Both recent trials were sound and from the gate he should get every chance. MAGIC OF ZUES is first-up and like stablemate Zangief travels up the highway in an attempt to find a winnable race. Will need luck but won’t strike a weaker field. BROTHER ROBERT makes his debut and certainly wasn’t the worst coming out of trials. SLY AS A FOX an improver for the new yard. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – ZANGIEF WIN RACE 3 MIDNIGHT ROCKET has raced below his best this preparation. Again drops another kilo, has blinkers re-instated to gear and now reunites with Peter Knuckey. First-up win was better than it reads on paper and second-up was the target of big money. Hoping we get to see him bounce back because he is better than what he showed last time out. COOL SERENITY has weight but is extremely well placed back into 58+ company. Comes out of far stronger races than this. Looks a big danger. TAMPERING FALLS looks an eachway chance as do all of Brendon Fitz-Gerald’s horses on the program. Going well. BITOVEMU is drawn to get the soft run he needs to show his best. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – MIDNIGHT ROCKET WIN RACE 4 M’LADY has to lump 62.5kg which is always a big ask but this race doesn’t look to have quite as much speed as her recent assignments where she has had to absorb pressure and then try to fight off the swoopers late. If she can pinch a breather she’ll be hard to run down late. JEVELATION looks the map horse in this race. Sits leader’s back with no weight and should track M’Lady’s every move. STARTRADE won well last start and gets significant weight relief coming up to 58+ company. WILDONBROOK hasn’t been seen for 85 days but was in white hot form when last in work. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – M’LADY WIN RACE 5 WILD MEMORIES has always looked a staying mare in the making. Starting to do a few more things right and she can continue on her merry way. Should end up in a very similar position in running from the draw. DEFIANTLY has 60kg to carry and a wide gate to contend with. She is on her build to the 2021 Geraldton Cup and could easily pick up one or two of these 58+ staying races on the way. Only query is that she doesn’t seem to accelerate quite as well for apprentices. May be best served to simply sit deep and keep winding-up. DALALAH brings alternate form but did win impressively going back only three starts. BLACK MONEY took the step from maiden grade well. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – WILD MEMORIES WIN RACE 6 WEDNESDAY resumed in a C2 at Albany where she was beaten a fair way but that form could look even stronger by Friday should Strathmore Rose salute at Albany. The winner Alpha and Omega is a Saturday filly and from the inside draw Wednesday gets her cnace. FOXHOOD is honest, consistent and looks to have found a suitable race. Drops back to 1200m, drawn ideally and should settle close handy to the speed. Going well for the new yard. BRICK SHORT should find the front and can be hard to run down. AEECEE TIANHU hasn’t won for an eternity but the recent runs have been encouraging. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – WEDNESDAY WIN RACE 7 DELAGO DEHERO and CASUAL TRADE are both last start C1 1400m winners. DELAGO DEHERO went around 2.5L faster so that should hold him in a good position to run another big race. Goes up 2.5kg but is drawn ideally and can race right over the top of the speed. CASUAL TRADE was jumping out of the ground and if he repeats the performance will clearly be hard to beat. ALL THE JUZ has been a little below her best recently but can improve. TIME STARTS NOW is never far from the action. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – DELAGO DEHERO WIN RACE 8 QUALITY FAIR was 42 days between runs when nosed out in the final stride by Bombay Style. They meet again here and do look the two on paper. With the weight swing in his favour, he looks every chance of turning the tables. Can either cross to the top or sit in the breeze and should take beating. BOMBAY STYLE is flying and really does deserve to head back to town after the Geraldton season. Capable of winning plenty more races the way he is going. MYCROFT has been in form all preparation but the draw makes it tough to run down Quality Fair and Bombay Style. YADREAMIN will have last crack at them. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – QUALITY FAIR WIN RACE 9 AWESOME AS brings alternate form to the region having done most of her recent racing in the provincial area prior to her most recent when tacking this grade in Albany and running a strong second splitting Chasing Chaos and War Class. After the claim for Keshaw Dhurun she looks very well placed and should make her presence felt. STARORIO is a highly talented mare and it would be rare if Cliff Green took a team to Geraldton and didn’t win at least 1 race. This looks one of his better chances on the card. FETCH MORE AMMO has been right in the mix in this grade for a long while and continues to race well. OSIPOVA will need some luck from the draw. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – AWESOME AS WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,4,7 1,3,4,5,7,10 3,4,6 1,4,5,6,7,8,12 Market Market
