Deane’s Saturday Sandown Best Bets Posted on December 1, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 2 NO. 5 HOLY FREEZE Lightly raced colt HOLY FREEZE appears well placed to break through for his first city win when he runs in the 3YO Benchmark 70 Handicap (1200m). The son of Street Cry scored a strong win on debut on a heavy track at Hamilton on October 6 before a luckless 3rd over 1200 metres at Sandown Lakeside on November 22. He will be fitter for that run, should relish a step up in distance and will relish the more spacious Sandown Hillside circuit. He looks a smart horse in the making and HOLY FREEZE appeals as one of the better bets of the day. SuperPick - RACE 2 NO. 5 HOLY FREEZE - Win Boost RACE 3 NO. 1 MRS GARDINIA In form mare MRS GARDINIA is enjoying a strong preparation and looks the one to beat again when she contests the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 84 Handicap (1600m). The four year old looked good winning over 1400 metres at Geelong on November 11 before a brave 2nd behind LONG TIME AGO in the Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown Hillside on November 18. She only needs to hold her form and she should prove too good for this field, especially with the benefit of talented apprentice Ethan Brown’s 3kg claim. RACE 7 NO. 2 GUN CASE The Open Handicap (1000m) promises to be a terrific clash of some superior wet track performers but none more so than GUN CASE who looks a great winning chance. The seven year old is a distance specialist with 10 wins from 23 attempts over 1000 metres and his wet track statistics are similarly impressive having won 7 of his 13 runs on rain affected ground. He ran his usual honest race when finishing 3rd behind CRYSTAL DREAMER in the Doveton Stakes (1000m). He drops 1kg for that run and gets onto his preferred soft track which augurs well for another big performance from GUN CASE. Bet Now
