BIG DUKE is shaping as a genuine Melbourne Cup contender and can confirm that status with a win in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m). The Darren Weir trained gelding has been building his form during spring with a 2^nd behind FOUNDRY in the Group One Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick on September 30 before an emphatic win in the ATC St Leger Stakes (2600m) at Randwick on October 14. He is a winner at Moonee Valley and has far more upside than his rivals; should be winning.

The best value on the Cox Plate day program is PAGEANTRY when she contests the 3yo Fillies Classic (1600m). The Anthony Freedman trained galloper should be at peak fitness following four runs back from a spell and comes off a luckless last start 7^th behind BRING ME ROSES in the Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on October 7. The Freedman stable have a great record in this race over the years and PAGEANTRY looks ideally placed to run well at each way odds.

RACE 10 NO. 9 ALOISIA

The Drummond Golf Vase (2040m) looks a match race between an in-form colt, CLIFF’S EDGE, and an in-form filly ALOISIA. CLIFF’S EDGE has been in flying form with a win in last week’s Caulfield Classic (2000m) whilst ALOISIA staked her claim for this race with a dominant win in the Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 14. Whilst the quinella looks one of the best bets of the day, ALOISIA is still open to further improvement off her last run and can win again.
