Glenn Ingram’s Saturday Caulfield Preview

RACE 1

The race sets up well for the improving AMBASSADORIAL after he was run off the track at Caulfield before rallying again in a similar race last start, a lack of pace engaged and the rail out should see him punch forward and take luck out of the equation. I ONLY WISH broke a run of unlucky performances winning at Pakenham and will gain confidence, her habit of being slow away would be costly in this set-up. HURRY CURRY followed the mare home at Pakenham and takes weight from her, although hard to see her turn the tables. GLOBAL ECLIPSE was dominant at Pakenham, would need to see a COT to back him up in grade.

Selections: 3,4,6,7

Suggested Bet: AMBASSADORIAL win

RACE 2

Value play of the day MAKE IT SWEET looks to have found her race after two excellent runs to start the preparation. Scratched from a wide gate in an harder event Saturday, she’s drawn to advantage stalking the lead pair and is weighted to strike. MAGNASPIN is on the 7-day back-up after winning here last week and was somewhat fortunate to be left alone to dictate terms, more pressure expected, SLANE is one of those who can roll forward. SUNTORA has been a revelation this campaign and he too benefits from the draw, with the claim a bonus. Hard to make a case for anything else.

Selections: 4,2,3,1

Suggested Bet: MAKE IT SWEET 1 x 3

RACE 3

EUROCANTO won the Maribyrnong Trial before going to the paddock, jumped out impressively at Werribee and looked fit and ready at Caulfield before playing up in the gates and scratched, returned to the jumpouts without issue and a key winning chance again. GUEST HOUSE carries an enormous spruik, looked after by the jockey getting around Cranbourne for a soft debut win over 1000m, suited up in distance and has had the benefit of a jumpout between runs. Hardest to beat. The speed will come from CLOSER TO FREE a new addition to the O’Brien stable, a natural jump & run 2YO by his work at the trials, final 100m may test. ETERNAL WARRIOR was an impressive debut winner in the Merson Cooper, looks to have more upside.

Selections: 1,3,7,2

Suggested Bet: Exotics

RACE 4

JACARANDA won a Seymour maiden with authority defeating two others and chased the line with her ears pinned back showing a likeable will to win. Drawn well, a similar effort can measure up in this stronger event. STREISAND got further back than expected in the BD Preview and attacked the line once balanced up, extra distance suits and a middle draw can see her sit closer to the speed. MOANA SPIRIT is unbeaten in two career starts, her professionalism has been the hallmark of each win, this is her stiffest test to date. PORTINARI has jumped out well ahead of her debut, the barrier makes it difficult, look for her to be making ground late.

Selections: 7,3,2,11

Suggested Bet: Exotics

RACE 5

DAVIDA has been left alone in front to dictate her past couple and made them pay, given a gap between runs, she had a trial here to keep her up to the mark, with the rail out on a day expected to favour on-speed horses she deserves respect. Group 1 winning colt OBSERVER resumes first-up off a Derby preparation and a two jumpouts, both quiet, hard to assess, where he gets to in the run will decide his fate. PLANET RED has the option to go forward and betting will be key, jumpouts have been no guide. ARCORA is the blowout hope at odds, loved the recent jumpout, if they go hard he can charge late.

Selections: 12,1,3,4

Suggested Bet: Exotics

RACE 6

Speed is moderate. Tricky affair. DON’T HOPE DO lacks the quality of a G2 winner but has jumped out well and to his usual high standards and is likely to lead this field crossing in front of HEDGED, that horse will need luck if this situation eventuates. OAK HILL is the class runner with a good draw, he needs a fast tempo to be at his best and is unlikely to receive. PALLATON was a listed winner before spelling, trials in Sydney have been good for the return run and looks a key chance, hard to make a case for others but nothing would shock with the lack of tempo expected.

Selections: 6,1,5,8

Suggested Bet: DON’T HOPE DO 1 x 3

RACE 7

Another race where the tempo will have a large bearing on the outcome. ZOU SENSATION continues to race well despite being up an age, he’s jumped out again since his last start win. SANDPAPER will join him in the front pairing, lumped a big weight winning at Canterbury and gets a like-for-like rider replacement in the flying Jamie Mott. VEIGHT returned from injury with a game on-pace performance at Pakenham, sure to be improved for the run and can position up on the back of the speed, FEROCE has been freshened, his jumpouts suggest he’s in the mix despite the lack of tempo working against him. TOM KITTEN has a bad draw and habit of being slow away.

Selections: 4,5,2,3

Suggested Bet: Exotics

RACE 8

JENNI THE NINJA impressed on debut out of the chute at Pakenham over 1000m and followed it up with a good turn of speed quickening up the Flemington straight. She looks very progressive, if she can overcome a bad barrier then she is a chance to remain undefeated. ESHA is the interesting runner, poor at her first-up attempt, ridden off the speed there, surely a tactics change to go forward this time, the last 100m will test. ALPHA SOFIE has jumped out like a bomb to resume, she may have found the right race at listed level last start and keen to see how she measures up. BALANCE is the big watch runner on debut, aimed up at stakes level is a concern.

Selections: 5,3,2,12

Suggested Bet: JENNI THE NINJA each way

RACE 9

REGAL ZEUS finds a good opportunity to pinch a G3 win to complete a hat-trick of wins. A super record at 1400m and maps to get all favours in front with RISE AT DAWN at his girth, that horse has been less than convincing at the jumpouts to resume. Dangers coming from off the speed are WELCOMETOTHESHOW who is airborne winning four on end, been up a long time and may find the pace against him here. WILLYDOIT is a big market watch, NZ Derby winner may have come to end of his prep in Sydney when disappointing, return jumpouts have been quiet so betting is key. LIGHT INFANTRY MAN can roll forward, drawn out and needs a win.

Selections: 6,5,12,1

Suggested Bet: REGAL ZEUS win

RACE 10

Average tempo on paper. The enigmatic AHHA AHHA is hard to catch but she finds a suitable race and has drawn perfect, comes here after a big performance in defeat at Geelong and given a gap between runs, she’s had a lovely tick-over jumpout at Cranbourne to have her peaking for this. SNEAKY SUNRISE mixes her pattern, going well and can be apart of the speed early if they want to use the draw with Radley’s claim. VERDAD had no favours with the shape of the race at Caulfield and was good in the two runs prior, certainly in the mix. NARBOLD sprinted quickly to beat a weak field last start, the manner in which he put them away gives confidence he can go on with it.

Selections: 8,6,1,5

Suggested Bet: AHHA AHHA win
