Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on September 14, 2018 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 3 NO.8 WAGING WAR WAGING WAR has returned to racing in good form and looks a strong winning chance when he contests The Sofitel (1400m). The Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas trained gelding has built an impressive record of six wins from 17 starts and resumed with a strong finishing 3rd behind THEANSWERMYFRIEND in the Penny Edition Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks on September 1. He will be fitter for that run, drops nicely in weight and will relish the spacious Flemington circuit. He has raced well in Melbourne during previous campaigns and appears well placed to record his 7th career victory. RACE 5 NO.4 RICH CHARM Reliable straight track sprinter RICH CHARM returns to his favourite track and looks hard to beat when he runs in the Bobby Lewis Quality (1200m). The six year old has won three races down the Flemington straight track and showed a strong return to form when he ran a brave 4th behind BALL OF MUSCLE in The Heath (1100m) at Caulfield on September 1. He will appreciate a slightly longer trip and looks drawn for the right run in this race. He has a great winning strike rate of nine wins from 22 starts and appears poised to improve on that record. RACE 9 NO.15 FURRION FURRION is one of the most progressive horses in the country that should continue on his winning way when he runs in the Open Handicap (1700m). The Darren Weir trained stallion has won four of his five starts to date and resumed from a break with a breath-taking win over 1400 metres at Geelong on September 2. He will appreciate stepping up in distance, looks drawn for a cheap run from barrier one and drops 3.5kg on his last run. Whilst this is a stronger race, FURRION looks equal to the task and represents one of the better bets of the day. Market Market
