Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on January 29, 2021January 29, 2021 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 5 NO.3 AYSAR Quality colt AYSAR kicks off his autumn campaign when he runs in the Manfred Stakes (1200m) and should prove hard to beat. The son of Deep Field underlined his class when finishing runner-up behind OLE KIRK in the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) last October. He showed wet track ability earlier in his career so the conditions should hold no fear for him and AYSAR should return to racing as a winner. RACE 7 NO.4 YULONG CAPTAIN The best bet of the day is YULONG CAPTAIN when he contests the Benchmark 78 Handicap (2400m). The five year old has returned to racing in good form with three strong preparatory runs including a solid last start 3rd behind COOLTH over 2000 metres at Flemington on January 16. He will relish a step up in distance, handles all track conditions and appears to have made good improvement since his last campaign. The Dabernig/ Hayes trained galloper is on an Adelaide Cup path and this looks an ideal stepping stone to consolidate his chances for that race. RACE 9 NO.3 DEFIBRILLATE DEFIBRILLATE has been the in-form middle distance horse in Melbourne over summer and should continue on his winning way when he contests the Open Handicap (1800m). The son of Shocking won the Lord Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield on December 26 two starts back before scoring a comprehensive win over 2000 metres at Flemington on January 9. He has now won 7 of his 11 starts and earlier in his career he was considered a superior wet tracker so the likelihood of a soft track only enhances his prospects. Trainer Patrick Payne has done a fine job with DEFIBRILLATE who should make it a hat trick of wins. Market Market
