Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on August 14, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 1 NO.1 SOVEREIGN AWARD SOVEREIGN AWARD is a progressive mare from the Danny O’Brien stable that can make it three wins on end when she contests the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 84 Handicap (1700m). The daughter of Shamus Award has won five of her 13 starts to date and looks to have more upside than her rivals. She only needs to race tractably in the early stages to dominate this race and win again. RACE 6 NO.12 AGREEABLE AGREEABLE is an exciting filly from the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable that kicks off her spring campaign when she contests the Quezette Stakes (1100m). The daughter of Sebring created a huge impression coming from the back of the field to score a brilliant win on debut over 1140 metres at Geelong on May 29. She has trialled solidly in preparation for this race and gets the services of Victoria’s leading rider Jye McNeil. It’s a very good class fillies race, however AGREEABLE will measure up and stake her claim for the Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 10. RACE 9 NO.2 JUNIPAL The Benchmark 84 Handicap (1400m) sees the Victorian debut of the exciting SHOWMANSHIP and, whilst he looks a great winning chance, JUNIPAL appeals as a great value chance. The Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace trained galloper has been gelded since his last campaign and has impressed in two recent trials for this race. He hasn’t been wearing blinkers in those trials so the addition on raceday will be significant to his chances. Elite rider Mark Zahra takes the mount and JUNIPAL represents a good each way play.
