Ascot Race Preview – 2 January Posted on December 31, 2015December 31, 2015 | Posted by Greg Hooper RACE 1 – FREE WI-FI AVAILABLE PLATE 1200m No. 1 VEGA MAGIC – A couple of very talented three-year-olds clash in this opening event namely VEGA MAGIC and SCALE OF JUSTICE. Hard to see VEGA MAGIC getting beaten. His two wins this campaign have been incredible. He should lead and be too strong. (2) SCALES OF JUSTICE should run second. He is very smart. (4) RHI’S ROCKET has done nothing wrong in his two local starts. (3) AIRLIE SUN can tag Vega Magic in running and finish in the money. Suggested Bet – First Four 1 / 2 / 3, 4 / 3, 4, 5, 6 RACE 2 – KAI COMMERCIAL INTERIORS HANDICAP 1500m No. 3 FLYING ROAR – There is very little speed in this race and it should pan out perfectly for FLYING ROAR. He was huge in defeat at his most recent start when he missed the kick and flooded home. If he can jump well from barrier 1, lead and control then he’ll take some catching. (1) STOCKS is flying and comes off a win against the subsequent big winner Cosmic Storm. (7) ANTIQUE DREAM has put together a winning hat trick and its last start was a career best effort. (5) COUGAR NIGHTS can box seat from gate 2. Suggested Bet – Keen on Flying Roar each-way RACE 3 – G1X.COM.AU SPRINT 1200m No. 8 GIGANTE – Keen on the big five-year-old GIGANTE. He was something beaten first-up when he was ridden with a sit. I expect with that run under his belt he will lead or breeze and take plenty of beating. (3) VENGABUS was terrific when winning against the bias last start. He is the main danger again. (5) HOBART JONES will sit off the speed and find the line. (1) CARRY THE NATION can improve on his first-up run. Suggested Bet – Keen on Gigante save Vengabus RACE 4 – KAI SAPPHIRE RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENTS HANDICAP 2200m No. 9 ENTRECHAT – Talented staying mare ENTRECHAT looks a terrific chance to make it back to back wins. She just missed behind Savanarola and then went to Pinjarra and disposed of an average lot. Barrier 4 looks ideal and if she holds form she goes close again. (12) SHINTA MANI had no luck behind Savanarola and Entrechat. She can win. (5) DON’TGETCAUGHT looks very close to a win. (2) COUGAR EXPRESS sits on the speed and can win. Suggested Bet – Entrechat win RACE 5 – G1XBLOODSTOCK.COM.AU HANDICAP 1800m No. 4 LUNAR ECLIPSE – Talented four-year-old LUNAR ECLIPSE has been in a purple patch of form. He should settle midfield and be hard to hold out. (5) THUNDERCLAP NEWMAN relished the wet track and leading last start when smashing his rivals. He won’t get the wet track however he should lead and give a real big sight. (1) SIREEZE has finished behind some very smart types and should get all the favours from gate 1. (10) RODEO DRIVE is racing but up in class. Suggested Bet- Lunar Eclipse and Thunderclap Newman RACE 6 – $150,000 GROUP III KAI CONSTRUCTIONS – LA TRICE CLASSIC 1800m No. 3 COSMIC STORM – Keen on the emerging four-year-old COSMIC STORM in this feature fillies and mares classic. She comes from a different form lines to her main rivals however her last start win was emphatic as you’ll see. If she can get over from her wide draw she takes a stack of beating. (1) IDEAL IMAGE will box seat from gate 1 and can win. (5) VITAL IMPORTANCE had no luck in the Starstruck when being caught wide. From gate 5 she gets her chance for a win. (4) TARQUINN SHADOW gets the favours from gate 2. Suggested Bet – Cosmic Storm win RACE 7 – $100,000 LISTED SCHWEPPES SUMMER SCORCHER 1000m No. 2 SHEIDEL – There is plenty of depth in this feature 1000m sprint. SHEIDEL is back in red hot form and she should burn over to lead and from there she will take plenty of catching. (13) REBEL KING flies fresh and did run an unlucky second behind Sheidel first-up last campaign. (10) LUCKY STREET ran well in the Winterbottom and has been tuned up with a big trial win. (8) FIRST AMONG EQUALS will sit off the speed and smash the line late. Suggested Bet – Sheidel and Rebel King RACE 8 – $500,000 GROUP III G1X.COM.AU PERTH CUP 2400m No. 11 NEVERLAND – The Bob Peters runners dominate the market in this year’s Perth Cup. I’m going for the emerging four-year-old mare NEVERLAND. She hasn’t put a hoof wrong this campaign including a lovely cup trial at her most start in the ATA Stakes where she found traffic problems and finished powerfully. Pike electing to take the ride is also a big lead. (1) DELICACY is a freak and Peter Hall has an incredible record aboard her. She actually looks well in on 59kg. (10) KIROV BOY will take off around mid-race and can give a very big sight. He goes in everything. (13) RESPONDENT hasn’t won a race since the 2014 WATC Derby however he ran well in the ATA Stakes and drops 5kg. Suggested Bet – First Four 1, 10, 11 / 1, 2, 10, 11, 13 / 1, 2, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13 / S3 RACE 9 – ASCEND SALES TROPHIES SPRINT 1100m 8 EXPRESS DANCER – There is speed to burn in this final race of the day and I think it will set it up nicely for the closers. EXPRESS DANCER looks a very promising horse. He has a big turn of foot and he settles within striking distance he will take some holding out. (11) VOLKOFF was back to her best first-up with a big win from the tail. She’s drawn to settle much closer. (10) MAX ALMIGHTY was edged out fresh and can win. (4) HEAVY SET will enjoy the strong top end speed. QUADDIE RACE 6 – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 RACE 7 – 1, 2, 8, 10, 13, 14 RACE 8 – 1, 2, 10, 11, 13 RACE 9 – 8, 10, 11 Bet Now!
