Greg Hooper’s Ascot Preview Posted on December 2, 2016December 3, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 Competitive race to start the day. JUST ACT NATURAL resumes from a spell with the benefit of two trials. He should fire straight to the front from gate 1 and take plenty of catching. ON TREND is a nice type. He’s trialled well and flies fresh. RED PADDY came of age last preparation including producing an impressive win before being tipped out for a spell. DISCO METAL steps up in class after a strong first-up win. Numbers – 3 – 1 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet – JUST ACT NATURAL AND ON TREND RACE 2 Wide open three-year-old sprint. BADGE OF COURAGE finished strongly last week after settling wide and at the rear. He should much closer from a good draw and gets his chance. LEITFADEN drops back in class and trip. From gate 1 she should get a very soft run and sprint strongly. FAIRIE WHISPER attacked the line well last week. DAINTY TESS off her run last week. Numbers – 7 – 6 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – BADGE OF COURAGE AND FAIRIE WHISPER RACE 3 OUR MATE AL has been attacking the line since Jarrad Noske became his rider. He jumped from 1400m to 2200m a fortnight back and ran a terrific second. He should improve off that run and get a lovely trip from his good draw. FATHOMS OF GOLD battled last start when coming off a 7 week freshen-up. He should approve off that run and appreciate the rise in trip. THE FORGOTTEN ONE is flying. If he holds form and can find a spot from a tricky draw he goes close. MAGIC ROCKET will get off the speed and find the line. Numbers – 6 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – OUR MATE AL AND FATHOMS OF GOLD RACE 4 CAIPIRINHA looks a standout in this year’s Sir Ernst Lee-Steere Stakes. She’s the class runner and is thrown in under the weight structure. STORED ENERGY is crying out for this trip. She settles midfield and should work into the placings. LUSAHA can lead or box seat. CHIN STRAP is one of the best credentialed maidens in the state and Oliver takes the ride. Numbers – 8 – 9 – 3 -5 Suggested Bet – CAIPIRINHA WIN RACE 5 VOLKOFF looks a terrific chance with the drop in class. She’ll tuck in behind a strong tempo and with clear room should be attacking the line. VIKING FORREST is another who has a big finish and is drawn to get a soft run. SECRET NOVA missed the kick in the Jungle Mist which ruined her chances. If she jumps cleaner and use her draw she can improve sharply. ROGER THE ROMAN won well with Oliver riding a fortnight back. They team up again. Numbers – 2 – 11 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – VOLKOFF WIN SuperPick - Race 5 No. 2 Volkoff - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 6 COMING BACK found the line strongly in the Carbine Club. This is a big drop in class and if Randy tan can find some cover from a wide alley he gets his chance. UNIVERSAL LAW has burnt the punters all preparation. Pike back on is a big plus. SETTLERS CREEK can race handy to the speed. DENDEE was very impressive last week. Numbers – 2 – 3 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – COMING BACK WIN RACE 7 A capacity line-up for this year’s Jungle Dawn Classic. The Williams has a strong hand including the favoured duo of I’M FEELING LUCKY and COSMIC STORM. At the prices happy to go for I’M FEELING LUCKY. Since joining the Williams yard she has won five of nine starts including a dominant win in Coolgardie Cup. She’s trialled well and is drawn to get the run of the race from gate 1. COSMIC STORM produced a breathtaking final 100m when winning the Jungle Mist. The 1400m looks ideal. UPTOWN FUNK had little luck in the Jungle Mist. WINK AND A NOD can improve sharply with the drop back to mares grade. Numbers – 5 – 3 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – I’M FEELING LUCKY AND COSMIC STORM RACE 8 A super line-up has been assembled for the 2016 edition of the $1,000,000 GROUP 1 PETERS INVESTMENT KINGSTON TOWN CLASSIC. SCALES OF JUSTICE tries to cross and lead from his wide gate. GOOD PROJECT, STRATUM STAR, KAWI AND MACKINTOSH race handy. I’m keen on the kiwi KAWI. He ran well in the Railway Stakes carrying 58.5kg. He meets all those from that race under significantly better weight terms and haw drawn to get a soft run. This clearly the race connections have targeted and he should get every chance to show why he is a five-time Group 1 winner back in NZ. STRATUM STAR has been set for the race and tuned up with a couple of trials since being in WA. From gate 1 Damian Lane will have him camped right behind the speed. HEART STARTER wasn’t suited drawing gate 1 in the Railway. Suspect he can improve sharply with room to move and a flowing run into the race. PERFECT REFLECTION won the race last year with a postage stamp weight as a three-year-old. Not sure she is going as good this year however from a terrific draw she has undeniable claims. Numbers – 4 – 3 – 13 – 16 Suggested Bet – KAWI WIN RACE 9 Wide open finish to the program. JETOOMY resumes from a spell without a trial. He showed plenty of ability last preparation when joining the stables of Justin Warwick. He’ll park just off midfield and should be finishing strongly. POINT has trialled well for his return. He should get a soft run from a good draw. SASSO’S CIRCUS is very close to a win however he has again been hampered with a wide draw. PINZU hasn’t had any luck in either run this campaign. Numbers – 8 – 9 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – JETOOMY AND POINT Bet Now
