Ascot 20 February – Thoroughbreds Preview Posted on February 19, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 – COMMUNITY TAB PLATE 1000m No. 4 ATACAMA SKY – I’m going for the well related debutante ATACAMA SKY in this opening race of the day. He is the half brother to the WA Guineas winner Man Booker and going by his recent trial effort where he led and won by 5 lengths under a hold he has inherited some of his older siblings ability. (1) OUR TIME WILL COME looks the clear danger. She very professional filly having won two of her three starts and has been tuned up with an explosive 400m trial win. (2) SWIFT PLATINUM didn’t appear suited when leading in the Magic Millions. He can improve. (3) CHIN STRAP showed ability in his two starts. Suggested Bet – Atacama Sky win RACE 2 – POLICE FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES HANDICAP 1500m No. 3 WESTERN BLAZE – This looks a messy race and for that reason giving the Kalgoorlie trained galloper WESTERN BLAZE a chance at odds. He wasn’t suited first-up when sitting back and wide in a hotly run race. He should derive plenty of benefit from the run and can lead should Jake Casey elect to. (2) REBELSON is another who will camp right on the speed. (1) CARRY THE NATION is always a chance at this level. (6) ZARANTZ should improve off his first-up run. Suggested Bet – Western Blaze win RACE 3 – THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE WA BUSHFIRE APPEAL HANDICAP 1800m No. 2 TONTO – Talented four-year-old TONTO looks ideally placed in this moderate handicap. He settled a mile off the speed first-up and was doing his best work when the race was well and truly over. The step up to 1800m looks ideal and he should settle much closer to the speed and be too strong. (7) SAKER is in career best form. He’s up in class but gets nice weight relief. (3) ALREADY FAMOUS has been strong at both starts and looks the other winning chance. (5) PASEO DEL PRADO has claims if he can find his best form. Suggested Bet – Tonto win RACE 4 – $100,000 LISTED DETONATOR STAKES 1800m No. 8 BEDAMIJO – Eight-year-old mare BEDAMIJO came of age last campaign winning twice including a big victory in the ATA Stakes. She’s coming off a six week break since having an issue in the Perth Cup and last campaign fresh she finished a very close-up second over a mile. She should find the front and give a big sight with only 54.5kg on her back. (7) SILVER PLATED ran well first-up with a big weight. He’s proven previously he can mix it up at this level. (1) ANGOLA worked home solidly first-up and Pike goes on. (3) COUGAR NIGHTS gets all the favours from gate 1. Suggested Bet – Bedamijo 1 win / 2 places RACE 5 – STATE EMERGENCY SERVICES (SES) HANDICAP 1200m No. 6 GLITTERBELL – I’m giving GLITTERBELL a chance to turn the tables on LET IT SLIP. She didn’t appear to be suited being cluttered up on the inside in the Magic Millions and did a good job to beaten just over a length. She gets a 3kg weight swing in her favour which could prove crucial. (1) LET IT SLIP is the class runner. She’s not a big filly so the 57kg is a slight query however offsetting that to a degree is the fact she should get a pie run from gate 1. (4) DARK LOVE will sit off the speed and work home strongly. (2) CASTLE QUEEN has started to hit her straps and has claims. Suggested Bet – Glitterbell save Let It Slip RACE 6 – BOB TATE HANDICAP 1600m No. 6 SOCIALLY UNIQUE – This is a open race with many coming in with a winning chance. (6) SOCIALLY UNIQUE has been a model of consistency all campaign. He gets a soft run from gate 2 and will be in the finish again. (8) PARIS DREAM drops back in distance and the blinkers go on. (1) EUROSUN was huge in defeat last start however he has disappointed previously when having all the favours. (10) SILVER ROMANCE put in a shocker last start. If you can forgive that and go on his two prior runs he has strong claims. Suggested Bet – Socially Unique each-way RACE 7 – $100,000 LISTED CHALLENGE STAKES 1500m No. 2 WHO DAT SINGA – Outstanding race. WHO DAT SINGA is gelding of immense promise. He produced two monster performances in December of last year and was immediately tipped out for a freshen up with an eye on some of the bigger races over the Summer/Autumn. He’s drawn wide however he should power forward and settle in the first half dozen. If he doesn’t burn to much fuel he’s the one to run down. (13) SPIRIT BIRD was terrific first-up. She led and was nosed out on the post after lumping 58kg. She meets Black Dynamite 7kg better at the weights for a nose defeat. (5) ARCADIA DREAM is a classy filly who returns from a freshen-up. (14) FOREVER DIAMONDS is up in class however the 1500m should suit and she has drawn to get the run of the race. Suggested Bet – Who Dat Singa and Spirit Bird RACE 8 – LIONS CLUB OF WA HANDICAP 1200m No. 8 REGAL COMMANDER – I’m keen on the progressive four-year-old REGAL COMMANDER in this final race of the day. He was a strong first-up winner and he should improve significantly off that run as he attacked the race without a trial. If Pike can get him over from his wide draw he should be too good. (5) GIGANTE has no luck last week and his hoof on the till. (9) CLASSICAL PRINCE is in career best form. (2) LENIENCE will keep whacking away and give a sight on the speed. Suggested Bet – Regal Commander win QUADDIE RACE 5 – 1, 2, 4, 6 RACE 6 – 1, 6, 8 RACE 7 – 2, 5, 6, 11, 13, 14 RACE 8 – 5, 8, 9 Bet Now!
