Potent and boasting the best captain in the land at present. Deserving of their favouritism tag for Friday night. Next up: Melbourne (Marvel Stadium) 2. MELBOURNE Last week: 2 Can consider themselves unlucky not to have a chance to at least draw the game against Adelaide. Aren’t at the level they were earlier in the year. Still enjoying an excellent campaign. Next up: Western Bulldogs (Marvel Stadium) 3. BRISBANE Last week: 3 Made another statement against Richmond, winning game No.6 in a line. Have a hard-nosed edge to them. Are going to be terrifying prospect at home again it seems. Next up: GWS (Gabba) 4. GEELONG Last week: 4 Did what they had to opposed to Gold Coast. Will be a handful for their rivals when a fresh Patrick Dangerfield returns after the mid-season bye. Next up: Collingwood (MCG) 5. WEST COAST Last week: 7 The absence of an unconditional approach was never more evident than on the weekend just gone. Will bounce back against Essendon and should hit the bye at 8-4. Not to be trusted outside WA. Next up: Essendon (Optus Stadium) 6. PORT ADELAIDE Last week: 6 Just going. Can a premiership contender be held goalless by a lowly Collingwood in perfect conditions? Hmmm. Next up: Fremantle (Adelaide Oval) 7. RICHMOND Last week: 5 Their profile this season is not at the level we have seen in the premiership years. That said, I’m not ready to put a fork in them yet. Next up: Adelaide (MCG) 8. SYDNEY Last week: 8 Well coached and disciplined, it’s hard to be critical of them given what they have achieved in 2021. Not convinced they are playing finals, however. Next up: Carlton (SCG) 9. GWS Last week: 9 Leon Cameron and the on-field leaders deserve a big pat on the back. Their season was headed down the toilet. They woke up this morning in the top eight. Credit where credit’s due. Next up: Brisbane (Gabba) 10. FREMANTLE Last week: 11 There would have been no coming back had they lost to Sydney. Simply found a way, the victory made more impressive considering the deficit they were staring at. Need to get healthy though. Next up: Port Adelaide (Adelaide Oval) 11. CARLTON Last week: 13 Won a bad game against a bad side. Not much more to say. Next up: Sydney (SCG) 12. ESSENDON Last week: 12 Building nicely, but in all likelihood will receive a reality check at the hands of West Coast. The kids at Ben Rutten’s disposal are genuinely exciting. Next up: West Coast (Optus Stadium) 13. ADELAIDE Last week: 16 They’re not playing finals, but not sure many of us had them with four wins at this point of the year. Their persistence was rewarded against Melbourne. It followed two solid efforts against Port Adelaide and West Coast. Next up: Richmond (MCG) 14. ST KILDA Last week: 10 What was that? This list is too experienced and too good to be getting spankings on a regular basis. Something is seriously broken. Next up: North Melbourne (Marvel Stadium) 15. GOLD COAST Last week: 15 Better, but better is not cutting it. Single-figure tally of wins coming up again for the perennial underachievers. Next up: Hawthorn (TIO Stadium) 16. COLLINGWOOD Last week: 14 Continue to be competitive each and every week. The lack of scoreboard pressure for their early dominance opposed to Port Adelaide was exposed. Next up: Geelong (MCG) 17. HAWTHORN Last week: 17 One of these days, we will have it explained to us why this club has hit close to rock bottom so suddenly. Next up: Gold Coast (TIO Stadium) 18. NORTH MELBOURNE Last week: 18 Undid all of their good work against Hawthorn with an uncompetitive display against a bitter rival. Not good enough. Next up: St Kilda (Marvel Stadium) Market Market
