Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview

Race 1

RAW UMBER rolled his way to the top second-up and that was the last they saw of him. He has a beautiful big reaching action and covered the ground effortlessly to win by a soft 3L. He only rises 1kg start to start and takes on another majority field of maiden gallopers. Doesn’t seem to be anything that will have the intention of holding him out early and if they allow him to dictate terms to them, it’s likely game over. LUCKY EIGHTY EIGHT comes through a Saturday race and finished fourth behind The Persian God, Western Splendour and Gods Hammer. Improving type. ROCKTEX was no match for the highly impressive debutante Cassandra last Thursday. Trying hard. AXOPAR will look to tow ball the fav and follow his every move.

Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 6

Suggested Bet – RAW UMBER WIN

Race 2

SOMETHING ROYAL showed a bit of versatility last start. Prior to that she seemed a simple jump and run animal but as is so often the case when Pike jumps aboard, they try something new and figure something out. She ended up three deep cover and kept coming behind Bosisto at Bunbury. She’s drawn far better here and can settle just behind speedy trio Snip Of Romance, Great Promise and Earth God. Stalks and can zap them late. SNIP OF ROMANCE had a tongue tie added and the blinkers removed last start and it paid dividends. She scored an over due win and after the Natika Riordan claim drops 3kg into this. EARTH GOD is really well placed by Team Gangemi having contested higher graded races at his last 8 outings since scoring a C3 win at Northam. GREAT PROMISE tries hard but continues to find one better.

Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 2

Suggested Bet – SOMETHING ROYAL WIN

Race 3

HOT CHIX LANE went back first-up and attacked the line hard behind Arties Eclipse and stablemate Bubbles In Rio. She was first-up, no trial off 199 days and so naturally you would expect her to be fitter and stronger here second-up. She’s drawn middle of the line and has shown that she’s capable of going forward or back in her races but with the rail at 16m, with a cutaway and up to 15ml of rain on race day, wider might be better? Loved her return. JEMCONI went around favourite on debut and was afforded no luck behind Door Buster and Energetic. Trials this time around have been encouraging and she’s got both a barrier and Pike in her favour. NEUBRONNER went around 150-1 on debut which seemed harsh considering her trials were both quite good? ZALIS GIFT ran four consecutive minors last prep from 1200 to 1500. Just a matter of time until she wins one.

Numbers: 4 – 5 – 7 – 3

Suggested Bet – HOT CHIX LANE EACHWAY

Race 4

TRULY LOYAL won a 950m Lark Hill maiden by 3L leading into his debut at Ascot in April and was all the rage, getting into odds on and then nothing went right from start to finish. He ended up in an awkward spot in running, he over raced really badly through the early and middle stages and then he had nothing to offer late in a race completely dominated from on top of the speed. Really nice trial again leading into this preparation and like the fact he’s kicking off at 1200m rather than 1000m. More time to build through his gears. Keen. BIFF FAM BOOM is on debut for Team Williams and is drawn alongside the favourite. Led and won a 950m trial but did get things awfully cheap. CALL ME INVINCIBLE is on the 7 day spin from a fast run race here last Wednesday. ROCKY TWO had three trials in Mornington before being moved over to Perth.

Numbers: 4 – 12 – 1 – 5

Suggested Bet – TRULY LOYAL WIN

Race 5

MARCOS broke his maiden at Belmont over 1200m beating Pucker Up, Manhattan Squeeze, Profit Motive and Super God in a race that seemed to have a bit of depth to it. He then went to Northam into a C1 and was backed as if unbeatable before going toe to toe with Flying Maradona down the home straight in a race where they stopped the clock 5.5L faster than average. He’ll concede them a head start here but with the conditions of the day, that might not be a bad thing. ESPRESSO TIME has been tough in both runs back this campaign. Clearly returned far stronger. VIENNA CALLING ran third behind then 2 year olds Properata and Star Martini first-up and then was the beneficiary of a 12/10 ride from Brad Parnham to break her maiden at Pinjarra on the Scarpside. STAR SUPREME is a wet tracker. One last consideration.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 8 – 7

Suggested Bet – MARCOS WIN

Race 6

COSMIC GEM trialled well at Belmont leading into his return before being crunched in betting fresh ($8 into $3.80) and unfortauntely got trapped three deep the trip without any luck. Fought on bravely into third behind Lemmor Filou and Cable Rock and then again was hammered in betting at Bunbury, backed to beat progressive 4 year old Gods Cross who had clearly superior race form. Ended up in the worst part of the track on a day at Bunbury where you had to get wide and he was three back the fence. Complete forgive first-up and second-up. COSMO RULER is now 6 weeks between runs and was scratched at Pinjarra last Thursday with a hoof abscess. She’ll work her way through the grades but just wary of risk vs reward with the minor setback. HYPE MACHINE broke his maiden in style and got a decent push from both trainer and jockey post-race. SOUTH HOBA jumped under $4 at her WA debut. Now lands with Summer Dickson who is having another hot run.

Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 6

Suggested Bet – COSMIC GEM EACHWAY

Race 7

RAINLINE is just a model of consistency and you know what you’re going to get with her. She’ll park up close handy behind a strong tempo and she’ll be afforded every chance by an in-form apprentice whose 1.5kg claim won’t last much longer than September. Right grade, right map, right place, right time. ALLENTOWN backs up off 4 days from another strong performance in Saturday company. Horses who have beaten him in his last two outings: Hey Pino, Asif, Zourun Run, Common Touch and Deel Her In – they’re all lengths better than he meets here. Distance the only query. OUR ROCKY BAY has been much better in his last three since the winkers went on and especially since they’ve returned to riding him for speed. Thought his last start effort when third behind Heaven Specified, I Love Ya Money and subsequent winner Publicise was really good. CHOUX SHOE will come into it if they overcook it.

Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 5

Suggested Bet – RAINLINE EACHWAY

Race 8

BACK TO BONDI was given a peach by Holly Nottle last Wednesday. He jumped into the slipstream of the leader from the 1200 to 600 and then presented on straightening to bound clear late by an extending 1.5L margin. He is on the second 7 day spin (third run in a fortnight) which is an ask and he returns to C3 grade but that looked a confidence boosting win of a horse who could hold form and continue his way towards Saturday grade. CHEETO steps out for the first time for new trainers Dan & Ben Pearce. You only need to go back two starts into a C3 1700 when third to Shimonoseki and Partay to make a case for him. SAFARI BOY was a cheeky run first-up at 100-1 at a distance short of his best, in a higher grade than this. IMPRESSIVE JEWEL is tracking along quite well and Sisu Spirit nearly came out of that event to win a 66+ on the weekend. Just query being fence in run by this stage of the day.

Numbers: 1 – 9 – 5 – 4

Suggested Bet – BACK TO BONDI WIN
