Robbie Von’s F1 Preview – British Grand Prix

RUSSELL WINS. THE TITLE FIGHT IS ALIVE. AND WHERE WAS BRUNDLE?

What a weekend in Spielberg!
George Russell won the Austrian Grand Prix. His first win since Australia back in
March. Controlled from lights to flag, held off a charging Max Verstappen by less
than two seconds, and reminded everyone — including his own team — that he is
still very much in this championship. Verstappen second, Antonelli third. Oscar
Piastri fourth. Ferrari had a bad one The result means Antonelli’s lead is now down
to 40 points. Three races ago it was 66. This title fight is very much alive.

AUSTRIA IN BRIEF

Russell was sensational. Pole, lead from lap one, never looked like losing it.
Managed Verstappen behind him with clinical precision throughout. Verstappen was
the story of the race without winning it. The Red Bull upgrade clearly worked, he had
the pace to genuinely threaten, and at his home race in front of 100,000 fans, he
delivered a statement drive. If that car keeps improving, he is going to win a race
very soon. Antonelli third was damage limitation.
After losing points to Hamilton in Barcelona and another chunk to Russell here, the
teenager will want a response at Silverstone fast Ferrari had a tough one. Hamilton
fifth, Leclerc eighth. Lewis admitted post-race he couldn’t explain the lack of pace.
The Barcelona engine upgrade just didn’t carry over to Austria. They will be hoping
Silverstone is kinder.
Piastri fourth was solid. Norris seventh. McLaren still searching for the upgrade that
gets them back to the front. And Gasly finished 13th. Out of the points for the first
time all season. The streak is over. Still one of the stories of 2026 though. Lance
Stroll DNF. Again. Obviously.

WHERE WAS BRUNDLE?

Martin Brundle had the weekend off in Austria. Apparently Sky Sports have him on
some kind of rotation to keep him fresh. I say throw the rotation out the window and
get him there every single race. The grid walk just is not the same without him. Good
news is he will be back at Silverstone — his home race. Cannot wait.
WHERE THE CHAMPIONSHIP STANDS
Antonelli: 171 points. Russell: 131. Hamilton: 125. Leclerc: 79. Norris: 79.
Verstappen: 73. Forty point gap at the top. Thirteen races to go. Three different race
winners in the last three races. This is a proper championship now.

SILVERSTONE PREVIEW

One week turnaround to Silverstone. Race day Sunday July 5. Now. Let’s talk about
the Brits. England has had a tough week. Ben Stokes retired from Test cricket. The
nation needs a win. And Formula 1 might just be about to deliver one.
Five British drivers on the grid in 2026. Hamilton. Russell. Norris. Bearman.
Lindblad. Five. At Silverstone. In front of 150,000 passionate home fans. The last
two British Grand Prix winners are both in that list — Hamilton won it in 2024, Norris
defended brilliantly in 2025. And now George Russell arrives fresh off the back of a
win in Austria sitting second in the championship. The Brits are absolutely loaded for
this one. If you are an Australian watching this weekend, look away now. This has all
the makings of a home celebration.
Hamilton going for his 10th. TEN. The buzz around his special Ferrari Silverstone
livery has already gone viral. The man knows how to make a moment. Russell in
form, confident, on a circuit he loves. Norris with 50,000 fans screaming his name
from the Landostand at Turn 3. Bearman and Lindblad soaking it all in as the home
crowd cheers every overtake. This is Silverstone at its absolute best. Do yourself a
favour and tune in.

THE TEAMS

Russell and Antonelli are joint favourites at $2.75 to win and $1.30 Top 3. The
bookmakers cannot split them. Verstappen third at $5.00 to win and $1.50 Top 3.
Hamilton $7.00 to win and $1.80 Top 3.
Russell at $2.75 off the back of a win is compelling. Antonelli at the same price
desperate for a response is equally compelling. The ‘Best Finishing Position’
matchup between Russell and Antonelli at $1.90 each is the most interesting
market on the board. Pick your champion.
My call? Russell. He is in form, Silverstone suits him, and momentum is everything
right now.

PLAYS FOR THIS WEEKEND

George Russell to Win – $2.75
Lewis Hamilton Top 3 – $1.80 (home race, motivated)
Max Verstappen Top 3 – $1.50 (Red Bull upgrade working)
Russell v Antonelli Best Finishing Position – Russell $1.90
Silverstone does not do quiet. Five British drivers, a championship that just got real,
and Lewis Hamilton chasing a 10th home win in a Ferrari. This is the one. Happy
punting!
