Scott Embry’s Saturday Broome Preview Posted on August 13, 2026August 14, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 COUPE DEBURJ missed away horribly last start and somehow managed to close the gap to less than half a length late behind Old Grande. Quite simply – if she jumped, she would have won. Now considering she’s been slowly away at her last three it’s a serious case of risk vs reward here – but she’s going very well and deserves to win one. MINOZZA brings the alternate form through Port Hedland and Roebourne. Did lead them up at 1400m early in the season. Game on if he finds the top here. MARITIME DREAM has parked up over the speed in her last two and run handy races. She’ll be in the firing line throughout. BOUTIQUE SESSION couldn’t go with Coupe Deburj late but at least she’ll leave the gates cleanly and give herself every chance. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – COUPE DEBURJ WIN Race 2 KARSAVINA won brilliantly last start, same track/distance/grade and now with the addition of a natural top weight in Hundred Yards she’s going to go ‘unpenalised’ weight wise and actually carries 1kg less start to start. She put 4L on them in the finish of that race and absolutely romped home. Don’t think this race is any deeper and expect she’ll be mighty hard to beat again. These types improve with each run on the dirt so that’s a daunting scenario for her rivals. SCHUHBECK loomed large on Tuesday but couldn’t go past The Top Bar. He’s on the 4 day spin and punters love a quick back-up. SOLAR SYSTEM is in unchartered waters at 1600m but they may try and lead them event and see whether he can pinch it. HUNDRED YARDS didn’t show up last start. Prior effort at Carnarvon – big. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – KARSAVINA WIN Race 3 RAYS SAUCE is on the 4 day back-up from Tuesday’s Ladies Day meeting where he ran third beaten just over 4L behind Majestuoso Phoenix and Finado. He kept whacking away and now he gets a set of shades for the first time in his life and steps back out to 1200m to suit. Drops 1.5kg with Jefferson Tsang’s claim and this race isn’t very deep at all. No surprise to see him bounce back to what he displayed at Roebourne three back when beating key rival Cassenite. CASSENITE is coming out of races at Roebourne and Port Hedland. She’s yet to win a race on the dirt this season but has been there abouts. MOHEGAN RULER hasn’t found his dirt legs just yet. Few gear changes made here and Jason Lyon a huge rider booking. BLATANT VIOLATION fell in at Roebourne but 1400m may have been on his limit. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – RAYS SAUCE WIN Race 4 ALOTTA DANE won a 50+ 2070 at Broome last season on Cup Day before heading to Kununurra 7 days later and winning again. Most WA Punters don’t know a lot about Jason Lyon but his last 90 days has been 18% Strike Rate and 11% POT – he’s a gun and this horse is a last start winner who drops in grade and is a proven stayer on the dirt. Makes a lot of sense. WOLFMAN has been a model of consistency this campaign and was fourth behind Kings Sicario, Pharoah Show and Vevinsky last start – that’s Cup Form. STREET MASCHINO put in his best run of the campaign last start behind Fortunes Luck this track/distance/grade. If Bonny Casey can lead them again then he’s right in the mix. FELLAFROMDOWNUNDER wasn’t bad last start. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – ALOTTA DANE WIN Race 5 BIG SHOTS hasn’t won a race in over 900 days, dating right back to his 2 year old Pinjarra Magic Millions Win in February of 2024, but boy this looks a good race for him on paper. He has had 5 runs this season, all in 58+ grade and in his last two he has finished second to Zorbrist and second to Cable Boy. This is a significantly easier race for him and a great use of the Jason Li claim. Now or never. OCEANS JEN went around in the Mares race on Tuesday and kept coming behind all the way winner Topaz. On the 4 day spin and is a previous winner off 7. CANGGU ran second to Shasfa two back and then didn’t show up last start. Austin Galati back on could be the key. CITY OF SIN isn’t known as a 1435m horse but this might be their chance to ride him forward? Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – BIG SHOTS WIN Race 6 GREAT EDITION was coming into last start 8 weeks between runs and just blew out late. Really gave the impression that he needed the run and with the additional fitness here ‘second-up’ he should prove hard to beat. Laqdar Ramoly makes the trip North for Cup Day and can fire him across from a wide draw and sustain a run from a long way out. Prior to heading to Broome his only two wins: L.Ramoly aboard. TOPAZ ran the mares ragged on Tuesday and on the 4 day spin she’ll again have admirers. Roy Rogers team jumping out of the ground late in the season. Bring on Kununurra. GIFT OF THE HEART doesn’t have a rider named but if he finds one and starts – big respect. CLIMB ON TOP has been raced sparingly this season. Reproduces that first dirt run and he’s very hard to beat. Numbers: 11 – 13 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – GREAT EDITION EACHWAY Race 7 MANAVENDRA won the Port Hedland Cup by 5.75L. KINGS SICARIO won the Kimberley Cup by 2L. Which is the strongest form line? ZADAR ROCK won the Roebourne Cup by 2.5L. Add in classy and in form Northern Territory invader MAXXI BON and we’ve got a ripping Broome Cup. Going to side up with PHAROAH SHOW who gets a 2kg weight swing on KINGS SICARIO from the Kimberley Cup and bank on the training genius that is Darryn Pateman to have timed his run to perfection. Only fourth-up into the Cup and has the ‘freshest’ legs of any of the main players. MANAVENDRA will slide forward and travel up into the race. Dominant last start. KINGS SICARIO has gone from strength to strength this season and Tash Faithfull picks up the plumb ride. ZADAR ROCK gets some weight relief and just adores dirt racing. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 12 – 1 Suggested Bet – PHAROAH SHOW EACHWAY Race 8 WHATS THE POINT won brilliantly first-up at 1100m, was much more impressive than reads on paper second-up when cutting back towards the inside and out sprinting rivals at 1200m and then third-up took a big step to 1780m and couldn’t get past them in a bit of a stop – start affair. Back to 1615m, more genuine tempo on paper and should Alotta Dane run well earlier in the program the cult following for the hulking grey will only increase. Go you poor man’s Ihtsahymn. LUCKY LANDING won this track/distance/grade two back and then didn’t get much luck at all last start. His run was every bit as good as What’s The Point. WHY ME looked on track for a Cups tilt until the wheels fell off last start. FORTUNES LUCK has enjoyed a really good season. Is a bit all or nothing on the dirt but looks the leader. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – WHATS THE POINT WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,4,5 1,3,8,10,11,12,13 1,2,3,7,9,12 1,4 Market Market
