Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on January 22, 2026January 22, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ETERNAL WINE looks a handy filly for Michael Lane. She won well on debut when sprinting hard and then either didn’t handle the soft6 or didn’t run 1400 or was over the hill (or all three) at her second career outing. Trials have been sharp, just has to overcome the outside barrier over the short course. WATTO’S MARK may have been run down on debut in a Bunbury maiden, however, it was a heavily fence off program and the one who ran him down is above average in Two Time Charlie. This looks a weak 3 year old 1000 and he’s a genuine chance at double figures. CALL ME FROSTY was left vulnerable late last start after trying to run them into the ground. Expecting him to be popular back to 1000m. WRITTEN WORDS flopped at Geraldton but bounced back last start. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – ETERNAL WINE WIN RACE 2 BOY CRUSH made a serious impression on debut winning by a near 2L margin and stamped himself as one of the horses to beat in the 2 year old Magic Millions in 3 weeks time at Pinjarra. Even with a 2kg weight it’s hard to see main danger They’reallsisters turning the tables on him given the manner in which he won and the fact he hit the races off only a 400m jump out. THEY’REALLSISTERS bombed the start at trials and then was eye-catching. Barrier 1 was always going to be a cause for concern on debut and she hit a real flat spot at the 500 before coming again late and through the line. OPTIMUS PRIME settle a few pairs further back than anticipated on debut. 1200m more his go. LONDON ROSE ran well on debut behind All On Red and has trialled nicely for her return. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – BOY CRUSH WIN RACE 3 AMARLIME has 3 year old 0MWY form which is easily good enough to take this out. There looks to be a huge amount (too much?) speed in this event with Ain’t No Other Man, Cannykev, Hezangelic, Gift Of The Heart and Rommel’s Goddess all capable of going quick from right across the line and that should allow Lucy Fiore to sneak up in behind them. ROMMELS GODDESS was a 1400-1600m mare in previous campaigns but in the new environment and care of Anthony Barton she has really sharpened up and is thriving on being ridden for speed. Can still win from the box seat. SNIPPY WHICH hasn’t raced for 5 weeks and has shades removed. Has always been a c70+/60+ Grad type so Westspeed suits. No Charino/Prospector’s Picks in this. AIN’T NO OTHER MAN was allowed to free wheel last start and found the 1200 too far. Back to 1100 a plus. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – AMARLIME EACHWAY RACE 4 FAMOUS DANE resumed in a 72+ 1400 and finished second behind Silver Eye (now an 81+ winner) and beat home odds on favourite Timeless Gem who has been racing well all prep. Second-up drops back in grade and looks extremely well in after the 3kg claim for Holly Nottle. Competitive race but does look a great eachway chance. STYLISH LORD was ridden by Holly Nottle last start and took full advantage of the fact nobody else wanted to race on speed or put any pressure on. With the first 800m split he ran his rivals were sectionally impossible. RALLY THE TROOPS has gone to another level since being ridden with cover and can let the speed go here and park midfield enjoying the right run. ALL GRUNT did things wrong fresh in a forgive and is suited by the weight drop but more importantly the rise in distance. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet – FAMOUS DANE EACHWAY RACE 5 SOWAR is going super at 9 years of age. He has a new racing pattern later in life, leading and winnning the York Cup before breezing and winning the Walkaway Cup. Last weekend he went around in a 70+ 1600 with far more depth than his recent outings and this looks a far more Sowar appropriate race. Hard to fault the way he’s going and is eachway. AMAZING CHEAT went from a 54+ to a 66+ and stamped herself as an emerging staying talent. She’ll go back, she’ll hit a flat spot but she’ll find a second wind and come again late. Could be a late blooming stayer and can definitely win again. CANDLELIGHT SUPPER has been around the mark all prep. MISTER POPCORN brings X-Factor if Louis makes a mid-race move. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet – SOWAR EACHWAY RACE 6 RICHANCO ran a highly encouraging third behind Mahdi Girl and Jaz Session in the Summer Scorcher which saw him the best backed runner of the Miss Andretti. Was less than 2.5L behind stablemate Acromantula in a race where they broke the clock and now sneaks back in grade, with shades and a claim. Looks brilliant placement. HEEZA PHOENIX is ultimately Victoria bound to have a crack at the Australian Guineas and his runner-up performances in the Fairetha and WA Guineas to King of Light speak for themselves. He’s drawn 10/10 and this is just a stepping stone for him, wary he’ll be short. ELITE MISS trialled super and has always been a fresh is best animal. PROSPECTORS PICK is back to his best and beat a nice filly last start. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – RICHANCO EACHWAY RACE 7 RETURN OF THE MACH was a shade disappointing last start. Potentially she was ridden out of her comfort zone and potentially she didn’t run out a strong 1400, either way her previous form is good enough to bounce back in a race of this nature ridden cold. Looks a weaker set of opponents than his latest two 60+ Grad outings after her emphatic return. DE GRANDHOMME started his prep in Geraldton and Albany but the way he travelled and won last start suggests that it won’t be his only Saturday win. BOHEMIAN DIAMOND has always promised to win better than just midweek and Westspeed Platinum races and this prep could be the break out for her. MAIN ACT has been under-rated his entire career. Did beat Madhi Girl in a 3 year old 1000 last prep (she was a good thing beat though…). Numbers: 11 – 2 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – RETURN OF THE MACH EACHWAY RACE 8 MADHI GIRL was an alarming drifter late in the Miss Andretti once punters realised that: A) she would likely end up wide/back; and B) it was near impossible to make ground. Thought she was super and now is drawn a barrier to get a much more economical run. Clearly there’s very little between her and Jaz Session. JAZ SESSION is now deep into her preparation but continues to race well and in an event with a less frenetic tempo she should be able to hold a spot close handy and enjoy a near identical run to Madhi Girl. CUT THE TALK kept coming at Acromantula and put in his best run of the last 18 months. Question for him has always been stepping out past 1000/1100. SKY DUKE seems to go best when it’s high speed, high pressure. Numbers: 5 – 10 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – MADHI GIRL WIN RACE 9 TRIPLE THE CHANT looks primed third-up. Was lucky to stay on her feet first-up, was complete unsuited by the pattern/race shape second-up and now gets to a mile (3 from 3 undefeated) and has blinkers first time. Looks right place, right time. GREAT FORTUNE is a talented front runner but at the minute he’s missing away and being forced to race off-speed. If he jumps he leads, if he doesn’t it could get messy. Have to admire the way he attacked the line last start considering it’s unfamiliar/unnatural to him. SOUTHERN FIRETAIL broke maiden status very impressively. Looks a WATC Derby type in the making. ANTIQUE QUEEN finished just behind Triple The Chant fresh but wasn’t nearly as impressive. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 14 – 8 Suggested Bet – TRIPLE THE CHANT WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,6 2,3,4,5,11 5,10 2,6 Market Market
