Scott Embry’s Saturday Broome Preview Posted on May 22, 2025May 22, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SIRIUS STORM has his first start for new trainer Darryn Pateman and his first start on the dirt. Not an easy ask to win first-up on the surface but in a race without a wild amount of early pace on paper, here’s hoping that Jess Gray can get him out of the machine cleanly and keep him off the fence and out of the kick back. PRIVATE SAPLING is a winner at Broome over 1100m and has enough pace to kick up and hold a spot. Big respect. CHEDDAR BOB would be hard to run down if Michael Heagney was able to cross them. SHOULDER PATCH trialled up well for jew trainer Jody McLaughlin and will only get better as the distances increase. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – SIRIUS STORM WIN RACE 2 HOT CHATTER will come out running from the outside gate in an attempt to lead and while I’m not convinced she’ll be able to get there, she probably only needs to land in the breeze to be a genuine contender. Solid return behind Just Gifted at York and drops 6kg down to the minimum here. BIN SHALAA hails from one of the strongest strike rate combinations in WA in Barton/Altieri. She went close in two runs at Broome last season and will no doubt be ready to fire fresh. BERRY BERRY GOOD loved Pingrup and only has 51kg. OCEAN OUTLAW a watch for the new yard. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – HOT CHATTER WIN RACE 3 KIA ORA KEO is an ideal Broome 1000m maiden horse. He’s got speed to burn and no doubt Peter Farrell will set him alight in the early stages and get them all chasing from a long way out. Just needs to reproduce his runs from Feb / March to be running them ragged here. RULESQUE has always trialled well and then not performed up to expectation when put under pressure on race day. Fingers crossed for Jody McLaughlin he can put it all together because on paper he looks a nice acquisition for the region. THE KING’S WERD was only 1.7L off Art Session who ran second at Belmont first-up in a 3 year old Saturday. Watch. GRONAR next best with the 4kg claim. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 11 – 1 Suggested Bet – KIA ORA KEO WIN RACE 4 RED REBEL had 6 starts at Broome last season for 3 wins and 3 minors – never missed the money and is a jump and run conveyance. That’s exactly what you’re looking for and while 1100m is short of his best, if Jess Gray can lead then he’ll be hard to beat. CRYSTAL VAIN was a revelation at Carnarvon last year and is a proven weight carrier. Broome is different racing to Carnarvon but still expect him to acquit himself well. SIOUX CITY was more than capable last season and if he can hold out Red Rebel early it’s game on. MONEY FOR OLD ROPE loved Broome at the end of the last NW season. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – RED REBEL WIN RACE 5 LIGHTNING GOLD carried 61kg at York in a 46+, led and won by over 1L. Think he’ll be a really nice dirt horse for Michael Ball and in this event if he can hold out the early challenges of Tra La La and Celestial Fox and cross Make Your Point he’ll be right in the finish. MAKE YOUR POINT used to nearly bolt in his races. On the dirt you’d be using that to your advantage. TRA LA LA should be suited to dirt racing. PLATO OR PLOMO won a 400m jump out as a 2 year old. Long bow to draw but maybe he’s got more gate speed than people think? Numbers: 2 – 6 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – LIGHTNING GOLD WIN RACE 6 CHOIXWAY won a C5 at Esperance only three starts ago over 1200m and while he sat in recent runs for Anthony Barton he used to lead races for previous trainer Jimmy Taylor. Fingers crossed he jumps so they’ve at least got the option to kick through on him. KINGS CALL trialled as well as Manhattan Strip who won first-up at Northam. Big watch. LUCKY LANDING can stay out of trouble early and work his way forward. LET’S SEA ran a fast finishing third in a C2 1200 first-up at Broome last season before winning second-up 1400. He’ll concede them a head start but he’ll run home strongly late. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – CHOIXWAY WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 2,6,11 1,3,6 1,2,4,6,7 1,2,4,7 Market Market
