The Scout: EURO 2024 Matchday 12

Netherlands v Austria

The Netherlands occupy type spot in the group but won’t have it easy against Austria. Jeremie Frimpong came into the side in place of Joey Veerman against France, a game they were unlucky to win as Xavi Simons had a goal controversially ruled out. No changes are expected this time, even though Memphis Depay has failed to find the net so far.

Austria coach Ralf Rangnick must make some decisions at the back and will likely start two of Max Wober, Kevin Danso, Gernot Trauner, and Philipp Lienhart. Veteran Marko Arnautovic was excellent up front in the win over Poland so should retain his place. Patrick Wimmer added a spark when he came off the bench and could see more minutes.

DRAW

France v Poland

France looked blunt in attack against The Netherlands without Kylian Mbappe, and it remains to be seen if their talisman will return for this game. Adrian Rabiot was his replacement against the Dutch, allowing Antoine Griezmann to play a bit further forward.

Poland are playing for pride and coach Michal Probierz is expected to make changes that favour a more attacking approach. That should mean Robert Lewandowski plays from the start for the first time. Defender Bartosz Salamon missed the defeat to Austria with an ankle injury and is doubtful again.

France WIN

England v Slovenia

England have come under fire for their dour performance against Denmark but are still well placed to finish top of the group. Luke Shaw is back training but not fully fit and playing right footed Kieran Trippier at left back hasn’t worked. Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, and Phil Foden were all substituted last time last time out, and Conor Gallagher may be preferred to Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield.

Slovenia’s star man Benjamin Sesko suffered cramps in the draw with Serbia but is believed to have recovered fully. Goalkeeper Jan Oblak missed training over the weekend, while there are slight injury concerns for Timi Max Elsnik and Adam Gnezda Cerin. All three are expected to play, however.

England WIN

Denmark v Serbia

A point against England could’ve been more for Denmark after a good performance, but they hold onto second spot in the group now. Morten Hjulmand scored their goal with a brilliant effort last time and was impressive in attack. Thomas Delaney returns to the squad after illness but is unlikely to force his way into the eleven.

Serbia sit on one point and are in must-win territory. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was a surprise omission from the starting lineup as they salvaged a late point against Slovenia, however he could be restored to the team. Luka Jovic scored a dramatic equaliser in that game and is pushing for inclusion at the expense of the misfiring Dusan Vlahovic.
