Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on February 22, 2024February 22, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 FILTHY HABITS won a Westspeed Platinum four starts ago from the breeze and since then has been very consistent in defeat. No luck three back, no luck two back and then gunned down late by progressive 3 year old Alaskan last start. This is as weak a Saturday staying race as you’ll see and he gets his chance to stalk the speed and win another race. COMALILBITCLOSER finished 2.5L off Zackariah Beau at Narrogin but gets a 2.5kg weight swing in his favour. Last two staying contests he has been in have been run ridiculously fast. ZACKARIAH BEAU has turned back the clock and won his last two in style. KINELLINS LEGACY is the up and comer but she beat absolutely nothing last start. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – FILTHY HABITS WIN RACE 2 SIREN ASSAULT ran into the very sharp Golden Vale on debut and then was tipped out for a spell. She has trialled twice leading into her return to racing, first in a 400m jump out when winning by 1.5L and then over 1000m when second to proven 2 year old Onemoretwomany. Can track up behind Live Lucky and produce late. Expect she’ll be popular in betting given the exposed form and the promising map. RISE TO GLORY was an eye catcher on debut behind Madhi Girl 5 weeks ago. Does give the indication he’ll want a bit further. THIS’LL SHOWYA ran into a sharp one last start and again has drawn woefully. BLUE ROCKET covered the ground nicely in her Lark Hill trial win. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 6 – 10 Suggested Bet – SIREN ASSAULT WIN RACE 3 REQUISTION raced fiercely last Saturday at Pinjarra, to the point where he lead up the speedy Choixway. Leading is not his go, 1200m is not his go and now 7 days later he gets an opportunity to surprise a few dropping back to his preferred distance and striking a race where a few of them will cut at each other (Some Sort, Bisector, Flying Arabian, My Baby Blue Jean, Just So Sassy). Very weak race and is actually going along okay. DIVINE FLIRT is not known as a 1000m horse but she was a strong return to racing behind Divine Pair and she maps to get every favour. HALATORION hasn’t fired a shot in 12 months but the last time he was in this grade was December 2022. Keep safe for the new yard. BISECTOR tries hard but she’s not star. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – REQUISITION EACHWAY RACE 4 ANGEL UNDERCOVER is racing really well. First-up she gunned them down over 1000, second-up she charged home into third behind Sapphire Street (placed in the WA Breeders Classic and Pearl Classic) and last start she was ridden for speed when a gritty mid-week winner under 57kg. Versatile and consistent. WUBIN GOLD won two from two over winter at Belmont Park and beat some really nice types in the process (Storm Chaser, Siberian Siren, Snippy Which). Wasn’t asked for much in a recent barrier trial and should get a gun run from the draw. 59kg is the obvious concern. CHEEKY CHARLOTTE is speedy and will look to again run them off their legs. COOL MEMORY scratched from the Challenge Stakes to save for this. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – ANGEL UNDERCOVER EACHWAY RACE 5 LIVE TO TELL resumes in a 72+ on her way towards hopefully a start in the $5,000,000 Tabtouch Quokka. She is already the winner of a Supremacy Stakes, a Gimcrack Stakes and a runner-up to Super Smink in a Karrakatta Plate. She has trialled super on two occasions at Lark Hill over 950m and she’ll be out to strut her stuff and impress potential slot holders. Think she’ll gather these up no worries. CAPITAL FLIGHT gains the services of Paul Harvey and was an improved run last start. ICE PICK NICK makes his WA debut and has some reasonable 3 year old East Coast form to his name from a few seasons back. SISU WARRIOR looks in for a big preparation but may want further. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – LIVE TO TELL WIN RACE 6 REAR ADMIRAL has not been a friend of the punters this preparation, but she comes back to 1000m, draws well and has the blinkers removed (all four wins are without shades). While she hasn’t won a race she’s got placings to Devine Belief, Stormchaser/Hanchi and was only 1.5L off Premium Choice and co in a 72+ 1000 two starts back when wide throughout. Not without a show in a high-speed race with plenty of clashing form references and chances. RULER ROCKET has real X-Factor. He can absorb high pressure and he can show a turn of foot at the end of his races. TYCOON HARRY is a lightly raced 3 year old with genuine upside. Doesn’t need to lead to win which is a big plus. THE LADY IS A VAMP is trying hard. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – REAR ADMIRAL EACHWAY RACE 7 CASH AWAY gets one more chance after again having no luck at Pinjarra last week. He was never in the race from the back of the field and looked to resent being in and amongst horses. He’s a 2x winner off 7 days (including a 72+ 1600), he’s gone well for Brayden Gaerth previously and he’s going better than it looks. He’ll get the run he needs and can wind-up into clear air in this. BONJOY is the testing material – she’s flying, she’s dropping 2.5kg and she’s winning with arrogance. Only query is barrier 10 of 11 but she’s got gears. MATERIAL WITNESS is in career best form. He’s running sections and he’s tough. BIRDIEAGLE may have to lump 60kg from outside Material Witness which his no easy task. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – CASH AWAY EACHWAY RACE 8 MAROCCHINO won this race last year with 58.5kg when 70 days between runs with an 1100m Lark Hill trial in between. This is the exact same set up, the exact same preparation and his trial behind Live To Tell and Acromantula was brilliant. He’ll have to do some work to get across from barrier 13 of 13 but once he finds the top he’ll get into a rhythm and he’ll get rivals uncomfortable from a fair way out. Beat Casino Seventeen in both the Northerly and Van Heemst and meets him better at the weights. In Lou we trust. BLACK FANTASY and QUEEN ALINA went head to head a few times over the Perth Cup preparation and there was little between them. They’ve both returned well. CASINO SEVENTEEN was a weighted special in the Perth Cup, this is a lot tougher. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – MAROCCHINO WIN Same Race Multi – Marocchino (Top 2) + Black Fantasy (Top 4) Marocchino won the 2023 Detonator Stakes coming off 70 days and attacks the 2024 edition with the same weight off a 63 day let-up. His trial behind Live To Tell (very hard to beat earlier in the day in a 72+) was electric and he makes his own luck out in front. Black Fantasy can come across with him from out wide and looks to get a nice tow into the race. RACE 9 LORD VAMPI could not have been more impressive first-up. He got back, he got into a world of trouble turning for home and he let rip with a blistering turn of foot once he finally saw daylight. Second-up he drops 4.5kg, he draws to enjoy a gun run behind the speed and he steps out to 1400m. 3 year olds are beating the older horses left, right and centre at the minute and this looks a great race for him. PLAYING RIO is 38 days between runs after a minor set-back (suspected near fore hood abscess – Stewards Report). Natural query but both his maiden and C1 wins have been a real winner producers. KEEP ATTACKING was enormous last start. FLURO NEURO is always going to concede them a big head start. Numbers: 11 – 9 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – LORD VAMPI WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,3,4,7,8,10 3,4,6 1,2,4,7 8,9,11 Market Market
