Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on March 17, 2023March 17, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 I’m with the opening favourite STRAIT ACER in the Midway. Fair to say most of these have had their share of chances whilst this gelding from the Edward Cummings yard is lining up for only his fifth race start having run well in a stronger race prior to his last start close up 5th when lumping 60.5kg. ARTIE’S AURA draws the inside, with luck getting through in the straight can figure as he’s not a leader. Numbers: 8 – 13 – 12 – 5 Suggested Bet: STRAIT ACER TO WIN RACE 2 Sticking with SIR LUCAN here. Thought his effort was terrific winning at Randwick having not raced since well down the track in Verry Elleegant’s 2021 Melbourne Cup. He just led and kept on going, the additional 400m won’t pose any issues as he’s won up to 2600m in the UK. GLORY DAZE shoots for the hat trick, gets 4kg off the top tip, will that be enough? Spotted RAGING BULL making some late ground in the Sir Lucan race last start, one for the exotics. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet: SIR LUCAN TO WIN RACE 3 THALASSOPHILE and PINK IVORY fought out the finish at Randwick last start with a small margin separating the pair on the line in the former’s favour. The latter was a good thing beaten though having missed the kick settling too far back then having to weave through the pack down the straight, she’s better placed at the weights this time around and is yet to be defeated second up. HONEYCREEPER will appreciate the step up in distance, not out of it at good odds. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: PINK IVORY TO WIN RACE 4 Only a small field in the Rosehill Guineas however I found it hard to split the top three plus one other in the market (nos.2, 3 & 5). I’ll lean to PERICLES who sprinted away to score at Sandown, can’t see him far away in the run and with a similar sprint could prove too sharp at the end? ELLIPTICAL has form over the trip, disappointed last start however can bounce back. LINDERMANN right in it should he run the trip whilst Derby winner MANZOICE is the knockout, just mightn’t be quite far enough for him yet however I wouldn’t be surprised if it was! Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 in exotics RACE 5 Looks a very suitable race for the second up ECONOMICS who sat wide all the way without cover first up yet didn’t shirk his task one bit down the straight. J. Mac sticks and with a better trip this time can go a couple better. KOTE was a cracking run at Randwick after settling last, charged down the outside, can he do that here at Rosehill though? DASHING LEGEND is flying, has to be included. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: ECONOMICS EACH-WAY RACE 6 I’m with the Melbourne Cup winner GOLD TRIP who impressed first up at Sandown closing off strongly. Obviously he’s going to be much better suited stepping up in distance and his second up record is quite sound. DUBAI HONOUR is the query, UK galloper from a top yard with one of the world’s best jockeys on board. MO’UNGA can win without me, I’ve been sucked in before. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: GOLD TRIP/DUBAI HONOUR TO WIN RACE 7 Will not entertain any thought of tipping against ANAMOE here. He’s the best horse we have in the country and although drawn awkwardly he’s still got a bit on these. His record speaks for itself and I’m 100% in his corner. ARTORIOUS was sensational at Randwick, based on his racing pattern the trip will suit, has to go in as the main danger. GOLDEN MILE much better placed out to this longer trip. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet: ANAMOE TO WIN RACE 8 One of the most open Golden Slipper’s I can remember, I’ve been up and down this field more than once without being able to confidently pinpoint any runner. I’ve ended up with the Waterhouse/Bott trained PLATINUM JUBILEE and am likely to be completely on my own! She was good in the Magic Millions, ran second to Cylinder in the Silver Slipper and has trialled in between bolting in under a grip. CYLINDER has the form, gate and jockey! Confident the Blue Diamond form will stack up suggesting both LITTLE BROSE and DON CORLEONE must be included. Numbers: 11 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: PLATINUM JUBILLE SMALL EACH-WAY RACE 9 Good speed in The Galaxy with the likes of Zoustyle, Eduardo & Shades Of Rose all engaged. New kid on the block UNCOMMON JAMES lands the run of the race from a perfect gate, he’s going to stalk those leaders and pounce in the straight, he can make it two Group 1’s in succession. ASFOORA was good behind JAMES in the Oakleigh Plate, she too should land a good run in the race. REMARQUE next best. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet: UNCOMMON JAMES TO WIN RACE 10 Queenslander PALAISAPAN has a good first up record and did look the goods winning a trial on Monday. Her first three outings last campaign were consecutive placings in Group 2’s, well drawn with Bowman up she’ll prove hard to beat. ZAPATEO appears the toughest to beat, can improve sharply dropping back from the Group 1 last start. Gets very open away from those two. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet: PALAISAPAN EACH-WAY Market Market
