It Pays To Follow Posted on February 7, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Digby Beacham DESERT NYMPH Wednesday, February 1 @ Belmont How do you spell luckless? This filly has a racing pattern (she doesn’t jump fast enough to hold a spot over short trips) that has already proved detrimental in the early stages of her racing career. It was the case again last week when fourth behind City Angel, albeit beaten more than three lengths. She’s better than maiden grade and just needs no bad luck to prove that is the case. OCEAN QUEEN Wednesday, February 1 @ Belmont The market took a set against this three-year-old filly and it was 100% right. Her high draw meant she was always going to spot her main rival, Starchienne, several lengths in the run. That she did and though beaten one length, she wasn’t disgraced. Got to the line well over the 1400m. Is a watch as the distances increase. SUPER SMINK Sunday, February 5 @ Ascot Had trialled brilliantly in the lead-up to her debut outing on the weekend. So well in fact that she met with support in betting despite her horror barrier draw which always meant she would be rearwards until entering the straight. That rarely happens. Flashed late to grab third behind A Lot Of Good Men and Champagne Street. Now heads to the Magic Millions 2YO Classic. BRUCE ALMIGHTY Sunday, February 5 @ Ascot I’m not exactly sure where Neville Parnham goes with this bloke next, but off his excellent fifth behind The Velvet Queen in the Ascot Mile on Sunday at a big price, he’s worth a follow. Has dropped four ratings points this preparation to sit at 82 and if he finds a race minus Big Screen, can assume the role of leader and give some serious cheek. EX SPORT MAN Sunday, February 5 @ Ascot Steve Wolfe’s charge has not tasted success since the 2021 Karrakatta Plate and has proved mighty frustrating over multiple campaigns since. If we are to go off his most recent outing, he could be back in the winner’s circle soon. Loved the way he charged to the line behind Halatorian and Stellar Vista, breaking 34 seconds for his final 600m in the process. That was in 66+ grade too. KINGS FLIRT Monday, February 6 @ Belmont How could you not follow Kings Flirt after her demolition job on debut this week? The three-year-old filly jumped swiftly, put a gap on her rivals early and then powered away to win by more than six lengths in a 1200m maiden. The clock backed up the performance. Ultra impressive. SIZZLE ME PATRICK Monday, February 6 @ Belmont Showed above average ability on debut when third and wasn’t missed by tipsters and punters at Belmont Park. Was afforded a sweet steer by Troy Turner and pulled clear over the concluding stages to suggest, much like Kings Flirt, more wins are in store this preparation. INTERVENTION Monday, February 6 @ Belmont This filly has had a couple of cracks at it either side of a spell and is yet to run top three, but as the distances increase, she looks like she will be well suited. Ran fifth first-up yesterday over 1300m, but was just 2.5 lengths off the winner Finchy after being last turning for home. A mile and beyond is going to be in her wheelhouse.
