Warren Huntly’s Saturday Caulfield Preview Posted on October 7, 2022October 7, 2022 | Posted by Warren Huntly Race 1 Plenty to learn. KIMMELA has trialled well in Sydney and that form stood up in last week’s Gimcrack. PRINCESS DUHALLOW and SHESALLSHENANIGANS both looked good winning jumpouts at Flemington on the same morning. KING’S GAMBIT is another to trial well in Sydney. All the others have looked ok at recent jumpouts. Selections: 4,5,7,3 Suggested Bet: Small bet Kimmela to win. Race 2 OLD FLAME maps for a great run and his form ties in well with The Epsom. JIMMY THE BEAR is most consistent, a couple of recent trials will have him up to the mark. CARDINAL GEM might need some luck from the outside draw but will be hitting the line strongly. PURPLE SECTOR was close up behind Old Flame two starts back, then ran well behind Top Ranked, which also ties in The Epsom form. OPEN MINDED can improve and will ride the speed. REGARDSMAREE has a good second up record. Selections: 2,7,12,4 Suggested Bet: Old Flame to win Race 3 Competitive race. NANAGUI was good winning at stakes level last start and has run well here. Not hard to mount a case that KIN should’ve gone close to winning last start. She maps for a good run and although her only win to date was at 900m, she gives the impression 1200m will suit her now. C’EST MAGIQUE ran well behind Nanagui and has jumped out nicely since. SWEETENED rises in grade following her recent maiden win and looks to have plenty of upside. TROACH will make her own luck. Selections: 3,10,12,16 Suggested Bet: Nanagui each way Race 4 GRAVINA was beaten by a rising star last start and may be suited by the drop back to 1200m. TRIPLE MISSILE has been jumping out well and will be charging late. CURRAN is racing consistently and may be looking for 1200m now. ZETHUS got a great ride to win from the inside barrier last start. It’s a different scenario here but he’s in the mix, as is AMISH BOY. Selections: 7,4,12,14 Suggested Bet: Gravina each way Race 5 Tough race. EMISSARY ran well in the Naturalism behind Smokin’ Romans, who subsequently won the Turnbull. That obviously strong form, with Lunar Flare also coming through that race to win the Bart Cummings. SHERAZ comes through the same race and will be suited stepping up to 2400m. POINT NEPEAN will strip fitter for a solid first up run in a high pressure race. SARACEN KNIGHT had a confidence booster last start and maps for another good run. PERSAN and REGAL LION have claims. Selections: 5,3,8,12 Suggested Bet: Emissary each way Race 6 PAULELE may have found the 1000m at Group 1 level too sharp first up and he didn’t have the best of luck. QUEEN OF THE BALL will give a sight with the light weight. IN THE BOAT has jumped out well on a couple of occasions since his first up run and will no doubt strip fitter. INGRATIATING won nicely in easier company last start and will appreciate what appears to be a strong tempo up front. ZOUSTYLE beat Paulele home last start and might be suited stepping up to 1100m third up. Selections: 1,9,6,2 Suggested Bet: Paulele to win Race 7 ANAMOE pulled up with a lameness issue after winning the Group 1 George Main last start. He’s such a valuable colt, you have to assume he’s fully recovered if he’s lining up here. If he has, then he’s the one to beat. ALLIGATOR BLOOD is unknown at 2000m but he’s racing with great heart and will make it a true contest. I’M THUNDERSTRUCK also has to prove himself at 2000m but is drawn to get every chance. Not sure ZAAKI is at his absolute best but he will strip fitter third up. MO’UNGA beat Zaaki home last start and looks the other key hope. Selections: 7,3,2,1 Suggested Bet: Anamoe to win Race 8 GOLDEN MILE is unproven at 1600m but he was ridden close to a hot speed in the Golden Rose and still battled on ok. His previous win in the Ming Dynasty was a great Guineas trial. I suspect he’ll be ridden a bit more conservatively and maps for a great run. BERKELEY SQUARE is building an impressive record. He’s shown tactical versatility and you’d think Craig Williams will have Golden Mile right in his sights. AMENABLE ran well in the Guineas Prelude under atrocious conditions. He’ll probably settle back in the field but looks suited at 1600m and gets blinkers. ELLIPTICAL might need some luck from the inside draw but also looks suited stepping up to 1600m. Forgiving of OSIPENKO, and others, in the Guineas Prelude, he’s had a quiet jumpout since. Selections: 3,2,10,13 Suggested Bet: Playing multiples with 3,2,10 & 13 Race 9 I WISH I WIN could be a star on the rise. He overcame difficulties to win last start and the step up to 1600m looks suitable. The wide draw is likely to be offset but a solid tempo up front and he should get his chance. TUVALU will be part of the speed, he ran well first up and has jumped out nicely between runs. GENTLEMAN ROY will also be part of the speed and his form ties in with I Wish I Win. PINSTRIPED, UNCLE BRYN and CHARACTER are lightweight hopes. Selections: 5,8,9,13 Suggested Bet: I Wish I Win to win Race 10 ZAPATEO has won two of her three this prep and chased Eduardo in between those victories. ANOTHER AWARD chased well behind Zapateo first up and will strip fitter. PAUL’S REGRET is usually effective first up and has been jumping out well. WRITTEN BEAUTY has trialled well before a disappointing first up run but she featured heavily in the stewards report and is capable of much better. The late market might provide a guide as to how forward TURAATH is. Selections: 3,11,4,1 Suggested Bet: Zapateo to win Market Market
