Scott Embry’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview Posted on May 27, 2021May 31, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WELD looked the winner throughout running last start at Carnarvon when travelling up powerfully between horse and looking for a run. Once he got out he still loomed but couldn’t quite pick up Casual Trade. Casual Trade won against at the second Carnarvon meeting to make the form look good. AMBER HIGHWAY won well at the opening Port Hedland meeting and it is a bit of a horses for courses track. FLIRTY FRIARS an improver with the experience. MISS CIRCLEWORK hard to knock. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – WELD WIN RACE 2 CLEOS AFTERPARTY is a different horse on the dirt. Now a winner at Leonora, Leinster and Port Hedland. Troy Turner makes a trip up to the region (fishing trip surely?) and you would imagine that he and Dean Cocivera will team up for at least a winner on the program. This looks a great chance as he is proven on the surface and proven at the trip. SIXPENCE SPENT again should find the front and if he does lead, he’ll take running down. AFLICA’S GIRL looks a handy pick up for Brett Southcott. MONTAGNA gets his first look at the dirt. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – CLEOS AFTERPARTY WIN RACE 3 KID YOU NOT went round at any old price at his Tom Pike debut but ran particularly well. The form behind impressive maiden victor Shirls Dream will be obvious form reference and target of money throughout the program (6.5L faster than maiden average = hot). KID YOU NOT sat deep chasing throughout and still hit the line well. MAJOR LEAGUE comes from the same race and beat home Kid You Not. Not much between them again. TOP POCKET ran fourth and gives the stable a sniff at a trifecta. LOCKAWAY THE CASH heads up North for her first start on the dirt. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – KID YOU NOT WIN RACE 4 REDMILL joins the Chris Gilbert stable. That is enough in itself to attract some interest. Chris Gilbert has had 76 runners in the last 750 days, 10.5% strike rate at 42% POT. For a small yard that is massive and she can really improve these tried types. REDMILL is an on speed horse and Jess Gray lets them roll. Should go well. MISS BRIGHTON broke her maiden well at Carnarvon and is only better suited at 1300m than she was at 1000. GALIBA lost no admirers at her first start in Port Hedland when doing it tough throughout. ICONIC SKILL was only fair last time out. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – REDMILL WIN RACE 5 MISS HARLEY QUINN, SHIRLS DREAM and MAKFI AMOUR will hold almost 100% of the market between the three of them in what should turn into the best form reference of the season. MISS HARLEY QUINN first-up Port Hedland 56+ winner (3L faster than average). SHIRLS DREAM first-up Port Hedland maiden winner (6.5L faster than average) and MAKFI AMOUR first-up C2 Geraldton winner. All three on speed, all three at 1200m and all three talented. Going narrowly with MISS HARLEY QUINN who can follow Shirls Dream across and is tough. SHIRLS DREAM will be the target of money after the demolition job first-up. MAKFI AMOUR a definite chance. TRIPLE EVENT next best. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – MISS HARLEY QUINN WIN RACE 6 LICKETY SPLIT finds a new home with Dean Cocivera and has the services of Troy Turner heading up from Perth. First-up last preparation ran second to Diablerie in an Albany c70+ and then was nosed out by the same horse at Bunbury in a 0MWLY. Super consistent, winner off 89 days previously and drawn ideally. If he handles the surface, he goes close. ROUND THE POINT is no slouch and hopefully he can cross to the top to make a race of it. BIG CAROLINE travelled like the winner throughout first-up. Would have to be an early Cup tip? CHESTEN FLYER is an Ascot 60+ winner and 72+ place getter in Port Hedland! Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – LICKETY SPLIT WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,3,4 1,2,4,8 2,5,8 1,2,3,4,8 Market Market
