Wayne’s Preview – Scorchers vs Stars Posted on January 13, 2017June 7, 2018 | Posted by Wayne Clark Saturday January 14, 2017 What a game this promises to be. The stakes are high with a guaranteed finals spot the prize! A loss for either puts them back in the mix in a competition that sees all teams mathematically able to make the finals. A Scorchers win will not only get them a finals berth, but places them in a strong position to host at home. Their win against the Heat still showed the reliance on the bowlers. They definitely need more from their batting. Michael Klinger’s efforts have been top notch but others need to lift. Marsh is surely due, and Ian Bell will soon convert on the starts he is getting. The potential is there for a big score and when Michael Johnson is batting 10, one can appreciate the depth. The Stars bowling looks vulnerable and I expect the Scorchers to score well. The Stars strength will be their batting with Quiney in super form, Pieterson showing he still is a dangerous player and Luke Wright promising to breakout. The positive for the Scorchers is that all bowlers are contributing and the form of Johnson, Bresnan and Richardson with the new ball was superb the other night. Early wickets will again be the key against the Stars as the form of their middle order is questionable. With a packed Furnace spurring them on, it’s hard to go past the Scorchers to win again!
