Scott Embry’s Sunday Albany Preview

Race 1

SIGN OF THE TIMES is the half brother to stable star Rop Them In and he won a recent 600m trial by a 9L margin. His prior trial over 1000 at Belmont was equally as good behind a horse with some ability in Calltex and expect he’ll take beating at his return to racing. DUNDEEMICKY ran second to Anaconda Jones in a barrier trial back in April. Anaconda Jones is a 2x winner and races on Saturday at Ascot in a 60+ Graduation 1100 (and was nominated for a Placid Ark Prelude). GOD’LL GETYA is speedy and if he’s going to pinch a maiden you’d think it’ll be over 1100m. LUZ DEL SOL did run third to Searchin’ Times and beat home Dirty Habits one day at Bunbury.

Numbers: 7 – 3 – 1 – 8

Suggested Bet – SIGN OF THE TIMES WIN

Race 2 (Best Bet)

BEYOND A DOUBT ran second to Chixfromthesticks and second to Merivale Louvain as a 2 year old and then this preparation has had one start at Northam when finishing sixth behind Blue Destiny and subsequent winners One Last Resort and Luminous Lil, who were both hammered in betting. That maiden was run 4L faster than maiden average and with him heading down to Albany and teaming up with Tash Faithfull it looks like a shop early type bet. ZESTY ZOOM wasn’t disgraced on debut behind Angel Express and Tex ‘N’ Cee. MISS BOJACK hails from a stable who can get them up and going early and a stable who travels them with great success to Albany. NO COMEBAKS is first-up, no trial so the market is the best guide.

Numbers: 5 – 9 – 11 – 1

Suggested Bet – BEYOND A DOUBT WIN

Race 3

FANTAXTIC has the race fitness over his rivals. He’s in the middle of a preparation and the rest of his opponents are each firs-tup into their campaigns, many of them without a barrier trial too. Only four starts ago he won a Westspeed Saturday beating 2x subsequent winning mare So Si God. He’s back from m58+ grade to c58+ grade and after the Bailey Webster claim looks really well placed and really well in. Hard to beat. CALADAN showed a bit in South Australia, has a strong SP profile and won a recent 600m trial in good style. DIABLO LAD hasn’t won a race for a long while but surely pinches one this season? NICCY’S AFFAIR can be hard to run down if she finds the top.

Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 3

Suggested Bet – FANTAXTIC WIN

Race 4

BRAVE WASP won first-up over 1000m last preparation for Mitchell Pateman, ridden by Pat Carbery. This time around he’s resuming for new trainer Tim Stone and Pat Carbery is heading down to Albany on a Sunday afternoon. Surely there’s a winner hidden amongst his book of rides and this looks the most talented of them on paper. Sits midfield and looks to pounce late. NAILED’EM has had two runs already this campaign and it’s rare that the Sam Faithfull / Tash Faithfull combination leave opening day without a winner. He’ll roll forward and make his own luck. BRAZEN BID teased a bit last season but does look like he’ll end that 1000+ day losing streak this season. LONG TIME BELIEVER sits leader’s back and gets it soft.

Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4

Suggested Bet – BRAVE WASP WIN

Race 5

HEY TRUE BLUE went around in the 3 year old Autumn features when last in work, including running fourth in both the Melvista Stakes and WATC Derby. He was put into an awkward position ratings wise after that, getting 2 points in both races for running fourth and resumed his career as a m64 as ultimately a 1600m Albany maiden winner. He has shed a few of those points and now heading to Albany looks to have found a nice race here fifth-up. Should be no excuses now in this grade. WARRALEA LASS fits a similar profit to both I Dreamed A Dream and Odinaka who won Saturday races at Kalgoorlie over the ground having had a freshen from winter staying races at Belmont. LOOKS rolls to the top and gives cheek. BEAUMONT MISS is lightly raced and tries hard.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 7

Suggested Bet – HEY TRUE BLUE WIN

Race 6

DESERT ORA won four on the bounce for Michelle Hagley and Tash Faithfull last preparation, going from an Albany maiden to an Albany C2 to a Pinjarra C3 and finally a Bunbury 3 year old 0MWLY, winning from 1200 to 1400 and showing a great little turn of acceleration. First-up, no trial, over 1000m she’ll be hard to hold out late. MEAT PIE ARTIE was a great acquisition for Troy Mahood and Esperance when last in work and won his last two races by a combined 5.2L margin. He’s a sharp type and must be respected. FLICK THE SWITCH is jump and run and while Tash Faithfull jumps off mum’s horse, she gets Austin Galati who is in scintillating form. ORACLE SON has found a bit of form.

Numbers: 9 – 6 – 7 – 8

Suggested Bet – DESERT ORA WIN

Race 7

JELLYBEAN JONES resumed at Albany in May when finishing second to Desert Ora (won four on the bounce) before taking out a 58+ beating Brave Apache by a 2L margin. He finished his prep in town in a C3 and considering he drew barrier 10/12 he was shown a bit of respect by the market jumping under 20-1. Recent trial at Lark Hill was good and Troy Turner looks to be on all of Wolfey’s #1 chances. SMART ENERGY likely finds this too short and too sharp, especially being first-up, no trial off a near year’s absence, but he’ll be a nice pick up for Alan Smith. DATEWITHTHEDEVIL is hard to catch but he and CAPRICIOUS RULER trialled well together recently over 600m at Albany for their respective returns.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 9

Suggested Bet – JELLYBEAN JONES WIN
