I WISH I WIN Last Start: September 2, Memsie Stakes (3rd) With Giga Kick now ruled out of Everest contention Peter Moody’s star sprinter takes over the number one ranked position. Terrific first up in the Memsie behind arguably the best horse in the country Mr Brightside he won’t race again before the big one however did stretch his legs with a gallop between races at Caulfield last Saturday. According to the stable he pulled up well & is exactly where they want him to be at this stage of his preparation. 2. THINK ABOUT IT Last Start: June 10, Stradbroke Handicap (1st) New kid on the block with the outstanding strike rate of 9 wins from his 10 starts. He’s gone from a Benchmark 88 victory to winning consecutive Group 1’s in Brisbane during the winter & all of this within the space of only 5 starts! Very impressive sweeping down the outside to win a barrier trial a couple of weeks ago he will resume in Saturday’s Premiere Stakes at Randwick which will be a cracking race with big Everest repercussions. Should he win that convincingly he’s going to strongly challenge I Wish I Win for the top spot. 3. PRIVATE EYE Last Start: September 16, The Shorts (1st) Jumps 3 places after the events of last Saturday & he didn’t even race! Runner up last year he mowed down Overpass first up just over a week back & will improve between 3-4 lengths according to his trainer Joe Pride. Pride has two chances in the big race with the slightly higher ranked stablemate Think About It also locked in. At this stage we won’t see him again until Everest day as Pride wants him nice & fresh for the big one. 4. IMPERATRIZ Last Start: September 9, McEwen Stakes (1st) Connections have reaffirmed they will not be going to the Everest with her campaign solely targeted at races in Melbourne. I’m still going to leave her in the mix just in case they change their mind with some highly rated chances having fallen by the wayside. Totally dominant first up she is nominated to go around in the Moir at the Valley on Friday night. If she’s as impressive there as she was first up surely connections at least consider a change of mind? 5. CYLINDER Last Start: September 23, Golden Rose (3rd) Landed a slot only this morning courtesy of James Harron Bloodstock. He’s going to get in light against the older horses & is in the right form to give them a real run for their money. Narrow winner first up, overcame obstacles second up to win before having a torrid run in the Golden Rose last Saturday racing three-deep without cover throughout being only narrowly beaten in a thrilling finish. With a kinder trip arguably he wins. 6. BUENOS NOCHES Last Start: September 16, The Shorts (3rd) Now that he’s landed a slot in the Everest I have him firmly in the top 10. Note he clocked better sectionals down the straight than the winner Private Eye in the Shorts which wasn’t really run to suit tempo wise. Trainer Matthew Smith has at this stage elected to keep him fresh with only a barrier trial likely between now & the big day. 7. SUNSHINE IN PARIS Last Start: September 9, Sheraco Stakes (1st) Now a confirmed slot holder after her first up win at Rosehill Saturday week back. Many were keen to take her on as her lead-up trial form hadn’t been impressive however she made a mockery of that zooming down the outside from third last to score a comprehensive victory in slick time with gas in the tank. Without doubt she still has a fair way to go to suggest she can take on the big boys however she’s doing nothing wrong & at this stage deserves her spot in the top 10. Trainer Annabel Neasham has elected to send the mare straight into the Everest without another run. 8. OVERPASS Last Start: September 16, The Shorts (2nd) Although beaten by Private Eye first up he has scored an Everest slot & won’t race again beforehand, at this stage Bjorn Baker’s plan is to trial him on the 3rd of October & then it’s straight into the big race as he performs best on the fresh side & 1200m is his pet trip. To be honest I expected him to win first up which suggests turning the tables on Private Eye on Everest day won’t be an easy task. 9. OZZMOSIS Last Start: September 23, Heritage Stakes (1st) Plenty of chatter around since his impressive return on Saturday when sitting up on speed before charging clear to the line. He’s unbeaten at 3 starts & will no doubt take a ton of benefit from the first up win. Whether he can measure up to Everest level remains to be seen however he can only win & he’s been doing that in races, trials & jump outs, in fact he’s never been headed when in front. 10. IN SECRET Last Start: September 16, The Shorts (4th) She remains in the top 10 however after last Saturday weeks third she’s on the cusp of going back out. There’s a few other topliners going around who may or may not head to the big race such as Amelia’s Jewel however should they change tack this mare will be quickly removed as I thought she had every possible chance on Saturday. Note star jockey Zac Purton has been engaged for the ride. Dropping out – Giga Kick, Shinzu Coming in – Cylinder, Ozzmosis Market Market
