Scott Embry’s Thursday Albany Preview Posted on April 15, 2026April 15, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 INSYDE SUCCESS has been a touch costly to punters this campaign but this does look another really good opportunity for him, and considering his last two starts have been in 58+ grade, and most recently he finished third behind God Has Drifted (races at Pinjarra on Wednesday) and Hezangelic (plunged and won a Westspeed Platinum on Saturday at Ascot) the form just stands out. One more time. REGGIO CALABRIA was on his worst behaviour last start and was eventually beaten 13L. He beat home Insyde Success in a C2 1100 back in March so hopefully he bounces out of that and returns to his best. PERFECT SISTER steps out for new trainer Tom Wolfe for the first time and was only 2.4L off Fine Star, Hedawood and Dominatus in a high rating C1 at Ascot last prep. DATE WITHTHEDEVIL comes back to 1100m which may help. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – INSYDE SUCCESS WIN RACE 2 DARK OPAL doesn’t seem to get any further than 1000m so given this race is at the short course we’ll go her way and hope that it’s lucky start number 13 for her. She’s placed 5x so far in her career and from barrier 1 Elisha Whittington shouldn’t have any troubles holding either the front, or at worst leader’s back. From there she’s right up in the firing line throughout and hard to beat. I LOVE YA MONEY trialled well leading into his debut and all of Brandon Fiore’s horses go well at Albany. The horse who outsprinted him in the most recent trial was beaten fair and square in a Kal maiden on Sunday, but regardless he looks a big threat here. STARCHASER finds yet another new home. Has a level of ability but must have a few issues? Always trials well so first-up, no trial might be a good thing. BELLE BELLE is trying hard. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – DARK OPAL EACHWAY RACE 3 DESERT ORA finds clearly her weakest race to date and looks very hard to hold out. After finishing 1L off Searchin’ Times (3x wins since) at 100-1 on debut, she showed it was no fluke with a 1L defeat at the hands of Tycoon Dreamer second-up and a half length defeat to Rosentra and Rockstar Queen after breezing third-up. Last time out she finished again less than 1L off the winner in a race that should hold up as a form reference. Into a country maiden and can wind up over these. IM ALL THE FUNK finished second last start in one of the highest rating Albany maidens of the season so far to Brave Dragon. Super effort. AGENT REMINGTON won a Lark Hill trial by nearly 2L and went well on debut. Should be an early career winner. KENTUCKY DRIVE went well at York last start and this really any tougher. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – DESERT ORA WIN RACE 4 OUR NEMESIS found form when heading to Albany last preparation. He won back to back 58+ 1500m races and then only three starts later won a Pinjarra C5. He was 8 weeks between runs in the NARS Series Heat at Belmont Park and he’s a highly quirky animal who has been known to put in an absolute shocker from time to time. Think he can bounce back here for near regular rider Tash Faithfull. HEADEM steps out past 1300m for only the fifth time in his career. He has had three runs previously in Victoria and Tasmania and didn’t seem to run the trip? The way he’s going this preparation though, you’d have to say he’ll appreciate the ground? New state, new stable, new horse. UNI QUEEN is flying and drops down perfectly to the 54kg limit. FALCON TRADER is racing below his best but should be reaching peak fitness. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – OUR NEMESIS WIN RACE 5 RENOVATION SHOW was simply too good for them last start and bolted in by an extending 4L margin. That was his first run over ground in WA and didn’t he grow a leg! He goes from C2 to 58+ company but at this distance and especially in the country regions you can take that step successfully. Hard not to follow up considering the arrogance of that win? CHEVAL SAVANT made his WA debut at York with an encouraging third and all of his South Australian and New South Wales form is over ground. Was once a 59 rater and is now a c62. Great purchase for the NW. LORDGIVEMESTRENGTH similarly won a C2 1900 three starts ago but hasn’t raced to the same level since. Should be able to roll forward into a commanding spot here in a race without too much speed. PURE CHINO is the class runner of the race but she isn’t an easy mare to ride or to catch. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – RENOVATION SHOW WIN RACE 6 CRUISE TO RIO has won two of her last three and the entire campaign has been going great guns. She will get back and she is 4 weeks between runs but like the step into 58+ grade for her because she also gets 2kg weight relief. Niccys Affair will roll them along and if she’s tip toeing late then watch for the mare over the top. NICCYS AFFAIR isn’t just a short course horse. She’s won her last two in style at 1000m but she’s also an all the way winner at 1500m and raced in an Ascot 1000 Guineas at 1800m. Hard to get past. SACRED OATH at his best would steamroll these. But we’ve really only seen him anywhere near his best once in the last 18 months. BRAVE APACHE went well last start and drops 3.5kg on that effort. Joey Azzopardi riding 54kg on a Thursday at Albany catches the attention. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet – CRUISE TO RIO WIN RACE 7 GINGERS SISTER won a near identical race to this two back, a C2 1600 when proving too strong late for Shaula in a race that had more depth than this. Three back she finished only 2L off them in the Ladies Bracelet and out of that race Uni Queen, Cruise To Rio and Tousled Crown have all won since. Take away the one poor performance last start at 1900m and she’s a great winning chance. WIN TO RETIRE finished second to Lordgivemestrength and beat home Sky God or even the third placing in a 58+ to Arafisio and Fight In Flight then she’s the one to beat. 1900m back to 1500, visors on first time and Natika Riordan jumping on are all three positives. DIABLO LAD looked like being a nice acquisition for the region but so far he hasn’t fired a shot. VERNACULAR actually well okay fresh back onto the grass. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – GINGERS SISTER WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3,8 3,4 2,7,9 3,7 Market Market
