Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on August 27, 2024August 27, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ALL GRUNT won a 1000m trial by 1.75L back in May and then again won by a length in his most recent 1000m trial at Belmont Park. Jarrad Noske back in the saddle and expect that wife Tiarnna has timed his debut to match. Looks above average. MODERN MISS travelled kindly in behind runners and then was only punching through gaps late once fully tested. Might not be one of ‘Bob’s Best’ but Michael Grantham’s team is flying and with William Pike only taking a handful of midweek rides it could be a good indicator. SUN KOSI was effectively held up the entire length of the straight in his trial. Watch. EARL IT IS didn’t fire fresh. Numbers: 2 – 11 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – ALL GRUNT WIN RACE 2 COSMIC ECLIPSE really caught the eye at trials. Stable apprentice Chanel Cooper had her at the rear of the field and she looked to be winding up powerfully through her gears late. Went into her debut at Pinjarra with a big expectation on her shoulders and was immediately tipped out after finishing fifth. Looks to have a motor. HYPERREAL ran well down the 1000m straight behind Desert Whisper and Charino. SHASFA covered the ground well in her trial win. ELLICAZAM has improved at each trial over both preparations. Numbers: 11 – 6 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet – COSMIC ECLIPSE WIN RACE 3 FOXY RASCAL, WEST MASSIV and KEGGS LATER ran second, third and fourth behind Antique Star (Races Wednesday at Belmont) and in a maiden race that has already produced two well supported winners in Couldhavebeen and Ilgiro Delmondo. That looks the form reference and expecting that they’ll dominate the market as a trio. WEST MASSIV can nearly lead this race. FOXY RASCAL will need a bit steer from the barrier. KEGGS LATER loves a wet surface. MODELISTIC ran really well on debut into third and then got herself into all sorts of traffic issues at her second run in a complete forgive. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 12 Suggested Bet – WEST MASSIV WIN RACE 4 STORMAGEDDON resumed over 1100m when beaten into second by debutante Leetron. Again he’s no star – but it looks like only a matter of time before he breaks his maiden and he won’t get many better opportuntiies than this. He’s drawn to get every favour and should only improve second-up. LIL CAPRI has trilled well on multiple occasions and with Pike on will have a natural following on debut. GALILEA has put in two encouraging runs and one shocker. She’s ready to finally break through and win one. MAZZETTI ran a ripper at any old odds first-up behind Playball and Marybee. Numbers: 1 – 11 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – STORMAGEDDON WIN RACE 5 AYUMI makes her way back into C1 company and has struck what looks a very winnable race. She has finished 3L off Joker’s Grin/Silver Eye/Deferred, 6L off Deferred/One Punch/Silver Eye, 7L off Deferred/Silver Eye and then most recently under 3L off Looks, Ishkur and Mine Host. Big margins granted, but stronger formlines than most of these bring to the race. BONNY ROCK is double accepted for Wednesday and Thursday. If she scratches to save for this then she must be respected. DAIYAMONDO finds a new home and showed plenty in Geraldton when last in work. TRESPASSING can cross and is getting close. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – AYUMI WIN RACE 6 ESTIMATOR and ROYAL TORONADO both come through the same race at Pinjarra a fortnight ago. There was just over 3L between them on the post but with a 1.5kg weight swing, Pike, a better barrier and an extra 200m thinking that ROYAL TORONADO can turn the tables second-up. Was a race where they struggled to make much ground so the effort is slightly better than it looks. ESTIMATOR was annihilated in betting in that race and duly saluted. He should again lead and dictate. FORTUNE’S LUCK has been a model of consistency all throughout winter and continues to produce. BORDER FORCE scratched on Saturday to save for this race. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – ROYAL TORONADO WIN RACE 7 TIGER LINE won a C5 1600 two starts ago and then finished third behind Advanced and Dash Of Brandy in that same grade last start. He now drops back into a C3, reunites with William Pike and is drawn to get the right run midfield with cover. Looks like he’s starting to work it all out and think this is a nice race for him to win again. QUEENSLAND DIESEL is a big danger. He’s thriving on the wet tracks and has really come of age this preparation. Hard to hold out. MORE LIKELY has done it tough in both runs this preparation but still run well. NOD AND SMILE is proving very hard to catch. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – TIGER LINE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,8,11 1,2,3,5 1,4,8 1,2 Market Market
