Scott Embry’s Sunday Mount Barker Preview Posted on January 17, 2025January 17, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 RULESQUE ran a handy sixth first-up behind Shmoov Moova (since won), Majestic Princess (since second), Cap Cavour (since third), A Lot Of Roses (since won) and Niccimota (since second). Loomed but didn’t finish off last start so thinking the drop back to 1000m might be a positive and Lucy Fiore jumps on. G’DAY BLOKE “is proving a very difficult horse to follow with any confidence because he’s simply doing too much wrong” – copy & paste from last two previews. HAVE A SESSION may be better suited leading. GOD HAS DRIFTED ran well fresh. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – RULESQUE WIN RACE 2 SETGAYA ran a ripper on debut behind subsequent C1 winner Chino La Diva abut then was only fair second-up in a 1230m maiden at Albany. Think the step to 1300m helps him and from the draw new rider Lucy Fiore should have him poised and ready to strike. BRADBERG is getting close to breaking through and winning one. The draw just makes things a bit tougher for Taj Dyson. I LOVE LUCY A LOT showed something two back. RUPERT’S QUEEN is trying hard. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – SETGAYA WIN RACE 3 PARC IT IN HERE is an improving type and gives the indication that he’ll stay the 1850m. Was strong late in betting last start behind Makin Prophets and Sir Bear A Lot and didn’t get a lot of luck in that race. This is very winnable for him. SPANISH KAT just can’t quite break through to win one. He’s fit, he’s on speed and Alex Hearn can turn this into a staying test. SECRET STONES won well two starts back but was poor last time out. THE ROAN RANGER is enigmatic and not an easy ride. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – PARC IT IN HERE WIN RACE 4 BEST OF THE GODS was super first-up when third behind Song Cycle and Stormy’s Show. Won well last start and this race is no tougher, in fact, he meets a very similar line-up to what he beat that day. SIRIUS STORM has promised to win a race all preparation. Will need a big ride. SAILORALONG broke his maiden like a horse who could make his way through the grades. FOXMANIA won well and then was no match for Best Of The Gods. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – BEST OF THE GODS WIN RACE 5 THIS’LL SHOW YA looks brilliantly placed by the stable’s Racing Manager Josh Pateman. Four starts ago she won a C5 1000 at Northam and first-up she resumed in a 60+ Graduation at Ascot when fourth behind Valsassina, Memory Parade and Capre Omnia. Straight to the front and cross fingers she holds on late. FRANTIC WAR is getting very close to breaking through. BLUE LINE loves Barker and that’s very important. KIA ORA TATOU improves. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – THIS’LL SHOW YA WIN RACE 6 KING CARTEL should be going very close in this. Placed in three consecutive Westspeed Platinum races before putting in an uncharacteristic shocker two back. Bounced back last start in a 66+ when only beaten 1.5L by Angel Undercover, Wubin Gold, Ruler Rocket and Rissoles. That’s great form for a 58+ at Barker. ZAC LUVS TO FLY can kick up and hold the back of King Cartel which would be an ideal spot. HOW PRETTY has proven herself a more than capable country mare. FIRST LAW isn’t easy to catch but is talented enough if he shows up. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – KING CARTEL WIN RACE 7 PLAYING RIO was dominant late in the Fitzpatrick Plate and given that in 2024 the same horse went on a rampage through the country feature sprints there’s no reason to think that in 2025 the same thing can’t occur. He’s always shown a stack of talent and Paul Hunter has him in career best. INVINCIBLE POWER will be naturally popular given the form through Papavero Princess in the Mandurah Cup. That mare (whilst unsuccessful) was backed into $1.45 at Ascot at her next outing. FINAL SIREN going below his best and a big query at 1300m. TOP OF THE POPS a blowout chance. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – PLAYING RIO WIN RACE 8 RUDHYAR won a 1940m 58+ at Albany last start under 62kg. He’s got 60.5kg after the claim here so thinking that he’s every chance of going back to back and announcing himself as the best local chance in the Albany Cup. ODINAKA endured a ‘stop / start’ type of run last time out when flushed a long way from home. DUCHEES DEMERIT improved sharply last start. MISS INTENTION is just starting to hit her straps. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet – RUDHYAR WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 6 1,10 1,3,4,5,7,9 FD Market Market
