Michael Heaton’s Saturday Broome Preview Posted on August 15, 2025August 15, 2025 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 MOMENT IN THE SUN’S form reads up brilliantly for this. He was caught behind a tiring runner then finished off well in 58+ grade 2 starts ago before running the fastest closing splits when second to the smart Spice Is Right in C2 company on Tuesday so he looks hard to beat dropping back into a Maiden off the quick back up. HARD TO TOP is an 18-start maiden but she’s been sharply improved since settling on-speed and has been getting closer. She looks the likely leader again. SANSANEE has been a beaten $1.90 favourite at her last 2 starts but was luckless at Port Hedland last start when missing the start, sitting deep throughout and still finishing off well. TWISTED TRICKSTER has been crying out for more ground and now gets out to a more suitable 1300m. Numbers: 2-9-8-6 Suggested Bet – MOMENT IN THE SUN RACE 2 FIRE THE GUARD looks mighty hard to beat again. Ran all the fastest closing splits to dominate from the breeze when breaking maiden status at this track/distance 2 starts ago before getting posted wide last start but still winning impressively again. He now drops 1kg staying in the same grade after the claim of Natika Riordan, profiling similarly to Spice Is Right did on Tuesday. PRIVATE SAPLING was a strong winner at this track/grade/distance 2 starts back before chasing home subsequent winner Spice Is Right last time out. SHASFA is going well but is yet to tick the 1200m box and meets Fire The Guard 1.5kg worse off for being beaten 2L by him. LADY CABERNET an improver back in distance and grade off a freshen up. Numbers: 1-2-6-4 Suggested Bet – FIRE THE GUARD WIN RACE 3 ROMMEL’S JEUNEY has been solid at his 2 starts back on the dirt and look suited dropping back to 1435m from a mile. He meets Canggu 2kg better and can lead and give cheek again. SCHNOOTS is gunning for her fourth-straight win and is another with tactical speed. She’ll land in the first 2 or 3 and be there for a long way. FAMEUX has to lump 62.5kg but is a massive class dropper and ran third to subsequent Broome Sprint winner Border Control 2 starts back. CANGGU won well last start but might not be as well suited by the drop back in distance. Numbers: 8-2-1-4 Suggested Bet – ROMMEL’S JEUNEY EACH-WAY RACE 4 LUCKY LANDING has been a model of consistency in and above this grade all preparation. He hasn’t missed the money since stepping up to a mile 4 starts back, maps to get the run of the race here and Kyra Yuill sticks. MAGNABURMA simply didn’t stay last start but his previous effort when nearly pinching a 69+ reads up very well for this 58+. He should lead again and is suited dropping back to 1615m. RED REBEL has raced in higher grade at 6 of his 7 starts this campaign and gets good weight swings on Magnaburma after the claim. BIG CITIES was dominant in his win on Tuesday and now drops 2kg but the 300m rise at his first attempt at a mile at start number 47 is naturally a big query. Numbers: 3-4-1-6 Suggested Bet – LUCKY LANDING WIN RACE 5 KINGS SICARIO is going very well but has been his own worst enemy lately having missed the kick at his last 2 starts. He was a great run storming home to finish second to subsequent winner Commissions in higher grade 3 starts back before making up a stack of ground at his next start but was simply never in the hunt last time out. He’s now back in grade and there isn’t much speed engaged here so he shouldn’t be as far off them in running. SCHUBECK backs up off 4 days after a solid effort when third to the in-form Spice Is Right. The mile is at his limit but he ran a narrow third at this track/grade/distance earlier in his campaign. RULESQUE has been a bit plain at his last couple of starts and is another who is a query at the distance but he could kick through to lead this. MR HOLLYWOOD is hard to catch but has been finishing off well. Numbers: 1-8-5-2 Suggested Bet – KINGS SICARIO EACH-WAY RACE 6 MAKE YOUR POINT was racing 19 points outside the handicap in Tuesday’s Broome Sprint and ran out of his skin to finish second to Border Control. He copped 10 points for his effort but still gets into this drop in grade smack bang on the minimum and meets rivals from the Sprint 5kg better off for beating them home at the same track/distance. SPICE IS RIGHT faces a steep rise in class from C2 company but he’s been running time with weight and doing it in dominant fashion. He’s 2 from 2 at Broome, drops 2.5kg and 3.5kg respectively and looks like he can measure up. MOCHA DREAM was simply enormous in the Sprint on Tuesday. He was the best part of 10 lengths off them in the run but rocketed home to be beaten less than 2 lengths in third. Former Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic winner BIG SHOTS was a blackbook run at his first start on the dirt when running the fastest closing splits of the day in an eye-catching second. Numbers: 12-4-3-5 Suggested Bet – MAKE YOUR POINT WIN RACE 7 An open edition of the Great Northern Broome Cup. GAMBLER’S GOLD looks primed after hitting the line better than anything at his last 2 starts and he meets Kimberley Cup winner Divine Mercy 4.5kg better now. He ran the fastest closing sectionals when second in last year’s Cup and appears to be going even better this year. STRIKING FELLA has been a great pick up for Peter Bamford’s stable. Has been racing well all prep and was beaten a head at his first start a Broome, won the Cable Beach Caravan Park Cup at his second start and gets a 3.5kg swing on Divine Mercy for being beaten a neck by him last start. REGINALD led them a merry dance in the Port Hedland Cup and whilst he’s drawn poorly here, he has the speed to still get across and gets in with the same weight. ZADAR ROCK won 4 of 5 leading into the Port Hedland Cup and had to lump 62kg but drops 2kg now. Numbers: 6-4-8-1 Suggested Bet – GAMBLER’S GOLD EACH-WAY RACE 8 MIRRORSCHINO won a Pinjarra 50+ 5 starts ago and now finds himself in a Broome 50+ 2070m event. He’s raced well in higher grade at his last 3 starts, including finishing fourth to Street Maschino over 1780m last time out, and the extra distance and 2kg weight swing here works in his favour. STREET MASCHINO is going as well as anything in this race but is on trial at the trip and rises 6kg. He should still give them something to run down. LUTZ and CANDLELIGHT SHERIF are both capable stayers and class droppers. Numbers: 7-6-2-1 Suggested Bet – MIRRORSCHINO WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,4,5,8 3,4,5,12 1,4,5,6,8,11 2,6,7 Market Market
