It Pays To Follow Posted on February 27, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Digby Beacham ALWAYSONEMORE Wednesday, February 22 @ Ascot Hadn’t displayed anything to get excited about at his first two runs either side of a spell last year. That doesn’t apply now after a barnstorming effort to place third in what was the slower of the two 1400m all-aged maidens run on the day. Granted, his run could have been made look better by the pattern on the day, but the addition of the tongue tie and maturity cleared agreed with him. BURNYA TO SURVIVE Saturday, February 25 @ Ascot Was eight weeks between runs and had a bar shoe applied. Given his racing pattern and an inside barrier over 1200m, there were some red flags. Hence why the Jason Miller sprinter got out to $2.70 by the time they jumped. Never looked like winning, but still finished third. If he has emerged unscathed, don’t give up on him. PLAYHOUSE PATRON Saturday, February 25 @ Ascot With All The King’s Men now in the paddock after the Lex Piper Stakes, you could mount an argument that Playhouse Patron is the best of the boys heading to the WA Derby next month. Has now stomped home his past two starts and will relish the step to 1800m and beyond. Running better than his C1 status. CAPITAL FLIGHT Saturday, February 25 @ Ascot Drew the perfect gate in which to lead, yet the tactics were to take a sit. Questionable to some given the race was over 1000m, but a preferred approach from the stable. Once he was crossed and denied galloping room in the straight, it was an extremely hard watch. HALATORIAN Sunday, February 26 @ Pinjarra Slow to step, settled four-back the fence and ran into backsides from there against a quality Pinjarra Classic field. For an in-form horse who has been riding the speed of late, it was a calamitous cocktail. Clearly a forgive in a race where you could identify numerous horses to follow.
