It Pays To Follow Posted on November 4, 2024November 4, 2024 | Posted by Digby Beacham Wednesday, October 30 @ Belmont Race 4 – GOLDEN DORE His chances took a huge hit when he made a mess of the start. From there though, GOLDEN DORE was able to tack on to the field and make up several lengths down the centre of the track. Whilst he never really challenged the winner, BELTA OF A SONG, the performance to run into second was full of merit. It was his second encouraging metropolitan run in a row and with even luck next start in similar company, prove awfully hard to toss. Race 7 – CLOSE TALKER Some horses just don’t get the luck of others in their careers. CLOSE TALKER is one such horse it seems. The mare was on the seven-day spin last week and after being disappointed for a run on October 23, saw way too much clean air at Belmont. She was forced to cover a lot of real estate over the 1200m and was entitled to knock up late. She didn’t and while she finished third to the Grant and Alana Williams-trained pair YORGA PRIDE and JANNY, was only beaten one length. Saturday, November 2 @ Ascot Race 5 – THE BOSS LADY In what promises to be a keenly contested fillies’ and mares’ series throughout The Pinnacles, THE BOSS LADY appears to have a major role to play. The gifted four-year-old was first-up under 60kg over the 1000m on the weekend and was ridden quietly from her high draw. JOKERS GRIN was victorious as the market suggested he would be, but THE BOSS LADY made excellent ground along the rail, clocking a slick 32.85sec for her final 600m. It was a terrific return from THE BOSS LADY, who boasts black type as a three-year-old over 1400m and has won six of her 12 starts. She can be trusted going forward. Race 8 – DIAMOND SCENE Having made a triumphant return over 1400m on opening day, it was somewhat surprising to see DIAMOND SCENE remain at that distance his second run. Unsurprisingly, he settled in a rearward position in the Group 3 Asian Beau and was doing his best work inside the final 200 to fill seventh, beaten just over three lengths. The five-year-old, a runner in this year’s Perth Cup, just needs ground. Watch for him over 1800m and further.
