Darren Clayton’s Albion Park Preview Posted on July 29, 2022 | Posted by Darren Clayton Race 1 FALCONS (5) is at his best off the tempo and should be relishing the early spice that will be added to this battle. Only a half-neck away last start, he made late ground two runs back and finding a spot cheaply will aid his close out chances. SPORT MENTAL (1) comes up with the options from this gate and looks set to release the speed when the pressure is applied. If the lane presents with momentum, she can be in the position to strike. GOLDEN SAND (7) held on for 3rd at Redcliffe last start after getting forward and applying the heat. He will be rolling forward and putting the blow torch on and will make it a truly run contest. DUKKAH (9) was runner-up here three starts back when settled behind the leader. Not far away in two runs since, he will be pressing through to secure position. Selections: 5-1-7-9 Suggested Bet: FALCONS (5) to win Race 2 BLACK HAWK JOE (1) was hitting the line strongly wide off the track to claim his heat victory and has tackled some handy Saturday night contests since that win. He may not have the hustle to hold off the arm but has the options on his side. CHAMONIX (2) arrived in the closing stages after hitting the line smartly to take the heat victory with a slick closing split. That was just his first win of the season but came off the back of some handy efforts that were not reaping the rewards for his efforts. RYANS GANGSTER (3) grabbed 2nd in a similar Final four runs back behind the smart Slip The Hundy. Just a neck away in his heat of this series, positioning cheaply will be key. MUMMYS BOY (8) will get the easy trip in behind the speed and be searching for openings. Selections: 1-2-3-8 Suggested Bet: BLACK HAWK JOE (1) to win Race 3 THE RACONTEUR (1) was a winner five runs back when scoring a dominant win in front over this trip. Wide gates and circumstance have conspired against him in the four runs since that win, with a return to the tight alley giving him the opportunity to turn the fortunes. DOUBTLESS BAY (4) makes his first appearance in Qld, arriving with successive wins at Menangle over the mile, the latest when taking them all the way from gate 4. In what looks an open contest, he will be pressing forward for position. THE HONEY QUEEN (7) speared out before taking the trail on stablemate and winner Fairy Tinkabell last week. Given no favours from the outside alley against the ‘boys,’ the 2138m is an added query. MAKE MINE MEMPHIS (9) looked to have every conceivable last week in the Blacks A Fake Consolation but still came up short. Yet to win this year despite some sectionally super performances, he has almost forgot how to win. Selections: 1-4-7-9 Suggested Bet: THE RACONTEUR (1) to win Race 4 BALLERINI (8) overcame gate 7 last start in a stronger all comers contest and gets back to mare’s only here which is a bonus. Her run two back when parked outside Crime Writer was a tough effort and from this alley, she will be awaiting the space to take the snipers shot. VALKYRIE (1) is a gate runner and lands the marble to burrow through and keep them wide. From the front last start, she was unable to see it out, but took them all the way two runs back. The gate gives her the chance to fight them off. OUR ROAD TO MECCA (9) will strip fitter following her first up run when resuming from a spell. The right trail in the early stages will aid her chances of featuring. IAMAJOYRIDE (6) was attacking the line with power last start as Beyond Delight landed the prize. The wide gate makes it a tough ask despite getting back against her own sex. Selections: 8-1-9-6 Suggested Bet: BALLERINI (8) to win Race 5 DANCE IN THE SUN (4) was a second up winner when firing off the arm from gate 4 to take control and see it out with a 9m margin to spare. Her 6 career wins have all been on this deck when leading and she looks set to be in front here. SLICK SOPHIE (2) has been back to the trials since her one and only Qld outing. With early hustle off the arm, the options will be availed from this alley as she looks first to the poles. WINONA WRITER (7) has had her chances dented by the outside paint, but her efforts of late have been full of merit. A return to mare’s only company is a big help in turning around her winning fortunes. GIRL FROM OZ (8) will be requiring some factors to fall her way from this alley as she looks in danger of being locked away. Placed behind Jeradas Delight last start, she will be looking for openings. Selections: 4-2-7-8 Suggested Bet: DANCE IN THE SUN (4) to win Race 6 STAR GALLERIA (8) settled one spot in the running line further back than he looked set to enjoy before slicing through the pack when swinging for home and 5m away. Stalking the speed, he will be ready to strike. Fitter following three runs back from a spell, conditions look optimal. CRUNCH TIME (1) had this alley three starts back and burrowed through to hold them wide and was in front all bar when it mattered, finishing a half-head in arrears. With a similar trip, he will be gripping on up the stretch. COLT THIRTY ONE (3) dive bombed Crunch Time up the passing lane two starts back before tackling the Blacks A Fake last start. Where he lobs from this alley will be vital to his hopes. JERADAS DELIGHT (2) steps back up against the boys here, after facing her own sex at the past three in succession. Nothing has really been in her favour in any of those, but this looks a tougher ask. Selections: 8-1-3-2 Suggested Bet: STAR GALLERIA (8) to win Race 7 SAM IS PERFECTION (6) secures a substantial drop in grade back to this veteran’s event after tackling much tougher opposition. Five runs back he claimed a new track record at Redcliffe and last start was 5m from the dead-heating winners in the Blacks A Fake consolation. OUR BONDI BEACH (1) loves an inside trip, and the map looks to fall in his favour. 6m from the winner Ballerini last start, he will be stalking the speed, ready to strike. MAFUTA VAUTIN (8) could not go with them here on Tuesday as Misterfreeze gave them a lesson out in front. The second line options will be a benefit. OHOKA JIMMY (2) chased home behind Delightful Dude last time out, with the good alley a big help to his chances. Selections: 6-1-8-2 Suggested Bet: SAM IS PERFECTION (6) to win Race 8 SOHO ALMASI (6) is not afforded any favours from this alley in a campaign that has not delivered thus far on what she is capable of. Tackling a much tougher mare’s event two runs back when not too far away from the winner Jeradas Delight, she can bounce back. SUGAR FOR MY HONEY (5) was a winner over the 2138m on this deck three starts back> Landing tough gates in the SE and then the Qld Oaks in her past two starts, she can defy the tricky gate and must be considered. NOR WESTA (8) will appreciate a return to mare’s grade after her effort here last week when hemmed away and looking for gaps behind One Big Shew. CALA JANE (7) claimed victory up the passing lane two starts back and then last time never saw open space. The wide gate makes it a big ask. Selections: 6-5-8-7 Suggested Bet: SOHO ALMASI (6) to win Race 9 MR IBIZA (3) put up a big margin from the front last start in midweek company, the margin posted at just on 17m. It took him a few starts to show his best since arriving in Qld but off the back of that victory, he finds conditions to repeat. TIZ A SIZZLER (7) is on the back up from Tuesday where he was second up from a spell. Making a late dive to grab a tidy 2nd behind Delightful Dude, his first up run was slick when scoring at Redcliffe. The gate hurts. GOOD AS IT GETS (6) was sent to sit parked last week and was asked to graft it out. Facing another tough gate, he will need to be working at some stage. ASTERISM (2) was chasing hard two runs back when beaten a head before gate 12 made it too hard last time. Selections: 3-7-6-2 Suggested Bet: MR IBIZA (3) to win Market Market
