Darren Clayton’s Albion Park Preview Posted on December 17, 2021December 17, 2021 | Posted by Darren Clayton RACE ONE SCARLET BABE (10) has a smart record over this trip that shows 2 wins and 2 minors in 5 attempts. Unable to grab Governor Jujon last week when 2 nd , there looks some good front line tempo which will aid her cause. DEUS EX (8) comes from that same race and was 3 rd over the line after being locked away on the poles. He looks to be hemmed in again here and will need some luck. HERBS HERO (3) also comes into this from that same race where he was the one doing all the work when sitting parked but faded under the pressure. SAM IS PERFECTION (9) was an eyelash away two starts back and is going well enough to be a factor. SELECTIONS: 10-8-3-9 SUGGESTED BET: SCARLET BABE (10) to win RACE TWO HANDSOME HERO (9) has been a model of consistency in recent weeks with 4 placings following his last win 5 starts back. Hitting the line smartly for 2 nd last start, the map might just fall in his favour. HARPS (6) started favourite in this race last week but faded after the toll taken to find the front and the gate makes it tough again, however a return to the mile will suit. FRANCO HAMPTON (7) was the one to capitalise in the run last week when sweeping home to claim victory and although he too will appreciate the mile, the wide gate dampens the enthusiasm. OUR MAJOR DAY (3) drops back into this veteran’s grade and should be prominent in the run. SELECTIONS: 9-6-7-3 SUGGESTED BET: HANDSOME HERO (9) to win RACE THREE EL AGUILA (2) was straight on the bunny here last week and once in front was never in danger for an easy win. At his best when lighting the lamps, this looks no harder than his last start victory and a repeat is on the cards. WE SALUTE YOU (1) loves to follow the speed, take a closing shot, and has the ideal gate to match the preferred pattern. SAUCY DREAMS (8) will be first up from a spell off the back of a super impressive trial and gets the chance to make this a peg dominated affair. COMMODORE JUJON (9) has been unable to land a winning blow but has been super consistent in recent starts and has the versatility to finish in the money. SELECTIONS: 2-1-8-9 SUGGESTED BET: Flexi trifecta 1-2 / 1-2-8-9 / 1-2-8-9 RACE FOUR FIRST STRING (5) made the most of a small field two starts back when claiming an effortless victory and followed that with a tough 2nd when parked here last week. He may need to grind it out again but looks up to the task. BEAST MODE (1) is effective along the passing lane and lands the ideal alley to be ready for the snipers shot. Attacking the line smartly last start, he will be stalking the speed. OBI ONE (4) steps up to Saturday night company for the first time since arriving in Qld, yet he has been placed consistently behind some strong performers that gives him a solid chance in this. PHILANDERING CHEF (2) led throughout in a midweek event last start and has the early speed to cross first to the pegs with available options thereafter. SELECTIONS: 5-1-4-2 SUGGESTED BET: FIRST STRING (5) to win RACE FIVE KENSINGTON BILL (13) has been sectionally superb in recent weeks where not much has been in his favour, yet he has closed strongly from back in the pack in each. Strong in the closing stages last week with an interrupted run to the line, there should be the tempo for him to swoop. THREE IN HEAVEN (4) joins the Charlie Cini stable after being sent North from NSW and is a talented 3YO that had no luck at all last start. He will be prominent in the run with his good speed out of the machine. CAPTAINS PICK (2) is in search of a hat-trick after successive Tuesday wins in front over this trip and has the gate to be right there once again. CHAMONIX (7) broke the hands off the clock here last week after retreating from gate 7 in the early stages and has again upset the barrier gods. SELECTIONS: 13-4-2-7 SUGGESTED BET: KENSINGTON BILL (13) each-way RACE SIX GOVERNOR JUJON (6) looks to be back at the top of his game after an injury interrupted season. In beast mode here last week over the 2138m when equalling the 4YO class record from the front, the 13 furlongs looks no issue here. Despite the gate, this looks a great opportunity to rise another rung. SPEECH IS SILVER (3) was buried last week and owned the best closing speed when finding space to charge home to score. He will be tucked in behind the action again and waiting to launch. TURN IT UP (2) was collared in the closing stages last week in front. The extra trip suits but do they look to go all the way again? JERADAS DELIGHT (10) has been sectionally strong in recent starts with not much going her way and will be warming up in the closing stages. SELECTIONS: 6-3-2-10 SUGGESTED BET: GOVERNOR JUJON (6) to win RACE SEVEN ITALIAN LAD (1) has faced his share of tough gates of late and will relish his opportunity after drawing tight here. 2 nd after doing it tough in the run last week, the gate is an important ally. EXPLICIT CASTLE (8) looks the main danger as he will be stalking the speed waiting for the gaps to present in the closing stages. Charging home to claim victory last start, he will be ready to pull the trigger. BOMBADIER JUJON (3) ran some smart closing panels last week after retreating from a wide gate with an improved gate aiding his chances. THE ROCKNROLL KING (4) arrived for the prize here last week from gate 10 and has been a model of consistency. SELECTIONS: 1-8-3-4 SUGGESTED BET: ITALIAN LAD / EXPLICIT CASTLE (1/8) quinella/exacta RACE EIGHT SHADOW MINISTER (1) maps to get all the favours with early speed to call on and a strong record when able to lead in his races. This looks right in his wheelhouse. NO DOUBT (8) was a winner from three-back along the poles three runs back and will be sitting in wait until the passing lane presents. BETTATHANIDEAL (5) steps up to Saturday night company after some tidy Redcliffe form and looks a place proposition. RECIPE FOR DREAMING (3) was 2 nd here on Tuesday and from the gate can be close enough to again look for some place money. SELECTIONS: 1-8-5-3 SUGGESTED BET: SHADOW MINISTER (1) to win RACE NINE DOUG (6) is the biggest enigma in Queensland, so putting him on top comes with a full paragraph of fine print. Brilliant last week when making a charge from the 500m to blow them away, he looks well graded from the 10m handicap. Cross the fingers, close the eyes and say a prayer. SIR FAHRENHEIT (9) is the form trotter in the state with 6 wins in his past 7 starts. He will need to be at a new peak to overcome the 40m impost but with perfect manners, he will be looming large. CLAUDYS PRINCE (7) was making his move last week when throwing it away with an error before resetting to grab 2 nd . He is a place chance if trotting cleanly. KINGDOM COME (5) is an opportunist and will be tucked away waiting for the gaps to open. SELECTIONS: 6-9-7-5 SUGGESTED BET: DOUG (6) to win RACE TEN SPIRITED BELLE (6) was first up in Queensland last start and returned a dominating performance from the front with a slick closing quarter. Off the back of that victory, a repeat is on the cards. FLIGHT CREW (7) was asked to hang tough last week from this same gate and was dead game when only collared by the swooping Which Hunt and looks set to be put into the battle early once again. JEWEL OF PEAK (8) tried to repel the chasers last week when holding on for 3 rd after starting from the ace. Likely to be buried here, she will be hoping for some luck to find the gaps. BRILLIANT ART (4) has put up some impressive sectional times at her past two starts, the latest when chasing the airborne Majorca. SELECTIONS: 6-7-8-4 SUGGESTED BET: SPIRITED BELLE (6) to win Market Market
