Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on June 25, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Rosehill race on Saturday & unfortunately the weather forecast for the latter part of the week & on race day suggests we will be well into the soft range. Will Stanley takes 3kg off (2) COLD BREW in this opening race & I’d be surprised to see the combination not figure in the finish. Fitter for the first up run here when not far away he drops a kilo & the damp ground is of no concern. (1) MAFIA takes on Midway grade having raced in midweek company all prep, in the money his past couple gets the very much in-form Siena Grima to steer plus her 2kg claim. (14) SHE SWINGS had excuses last time out & can bounce back. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 14 – 5 Suggested Bet: COLD BREW EACH-WAY. RACE 2 Very interesting Highway to sort at this early stage as so many winning chances have drawn poorly & we also have 6 emergencies mostly drawn inside gates, who will run & who won’t? I’ll lean to (7) RED RAGS TO BULLS who certainly doesn’t win out of turn however she looks close, she handles wet ground & did win this race last year. The second up (5) GIAPPONESE may need further & likes it drier however I have a feeling about this horse, gut feel is he’ll win at least one of these & likely better. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet: Wide exotics best. RACE 3 Happy to give (9) GORGEOUS another chance here. Definite eye-catcher at Scone three back when held up, that run certainly brought her to the attention of punters. She’s started favourite both outings since & although not winning either has had valid excuses. Kerrin McEvoy jumps aboard today from a perfect draw. (3) BENEVAC was very good last start after sitting wide throughout, entitled to tire he rallied to be beaten only a small margin, looks very close now. Liked the look of (7) JARRITO’s first up win, plenty of upside, can measure up. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 7 – 11 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 4 Keen on the chances of the second-up (6) TARZING who was all out of luck here first up when missing a run at a crucial stage in the straight. Only lightly raced he’s a very promising type who does appear very well placed to make amends. (5) BIG PAPA appreciated the drier ground second up coupled with the light weight when winning here, rises 6kg which is concerning however he shows plenty of potential. (10) KONSA may have only broken his maiden status last start however he’s in the premier yard & can keep on improving. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet: TARZING TO WIN. RACE 5 The consistent (1) SURF’S UP needed the run first up however she’s been firing ever since clocking up a win & two placings at her three outings since. With the claim she’ll carry an additional 1.5kg & from the good alley can box seat. (8) SWIFTIE HARRIET was luckless at Flemington two back before having her chance here last start, the last 100m just a concern with her however she should gain a very economical run. (3) MAKE IT SWEET hit the line with plenty of dash first up at Swan Hill, rise in trip a positive. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 3 – 15 Suggested Bet: SURF’S UP TO WIN. RACE 6 Should we not be on the worse side of soft I’m with (9) KING PEDRO who really is knocking on the door to win a race. Without a doubt in the world he should have won last start when held up for clear running at a crucial stage in the straight. Prior to that he was good with the big weight at Gosford & he shows up here with a favourable gate & lighter weight. (2) BLACK RUN has accepted here & Eagle Farm, in form beating all bar a promising type last start he handles all conditions. (12) BELLE DETELLE was heavily backed last start in the same race as the top tip however she too had traffic issues in the straight. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 12 – 14 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 Very open looking race where I’m leaning to last start winner (9) HOVLAND who lands a good gate & should gain an economical run. Too solid at the midweekers he takes on tougher opposition however gets a 2kg weight drop to help & races well over this trip. (3) INQUIRING MINDS goes around third up & should be peaking, has won out to this trip & beyond, handles all going. (17) EXISTENTIAL BOB is a very competent wet tracker who should be included in everything should he end up with conditions to suit. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 17 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 The Listed McKell Cup is the day’s feature over the 2000m trip. Like the way (4) GOD’S WINDOW is going this prep, tagged as a non-winning type he got the money two back on heavy ground (he loves it) before good again on a soft deck his latest beating all bar the winner. Looks well placed to keep up the good run. (6) ZAPHOD is never far away, he looms as the main danger & the ground is certainly no concern for him. (7) NELLIE LAYLAX will be looking to the skies as she’s an absolute ‘swimmer’, doesn’t go a yard on dry ground. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet: GOD’S WINDOW TO WIN. RACE 9 (14) SANCTIFIED had been firing at Warwick Farm in the midweekers before stepping up to Saturday company here a fortnight back when solid in the placings behind Big Papa. He shouldn’t find this any harder, draws well & handles all types of going. (12) COUPLES RETREAT blotted the copybook last start; she was only 2 lengths from the winner though & gets in nicely here with the claim. (15) EXIT FEE is very consistent in Highway grade, steps it up here however drops plenty in the weights. Numbers: 14 – 12 – 15 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 in exotics. RACE 10 Import (10) MR CHAPLIN arrived late when heavily backed at his Australian debut recently at Randwick. This is officially a step up in grade which is why he’s down in the weights however I’d suggest that’s not going to prove an issue & he is a second-up winner back home. (2) HOLLYWOOD HERO is very effective second up & he hit the line very well when resuming earlier in the month, definite threat. The consistent (17) SEVEN’S gets in nice & light whilst the consistent free rolling (9) MAWJOOD will need luck early from the wide gate. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 17 – 9 Suggested Bet: MR CHAPLIN EACH-WAY.
