Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on November 30, 2023November 30, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Opening race on Saturday features a couple of smart looking debutantes in STORM BOY from the Waterhouse/Bott yard & TRAFFIC WARDEN trained by James Cummings. Both have impressed at the trials however I’d have to lean to the former who has won his hit outs by a cumulative 9.1 lengths. The very well named TRAFFIC WARDEN won his latest at Warwick Farm running home well from off pace. CANARA next best, will benefit greatly from the race experience running 2nd on debut. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet: STORM BOY TO WIN (black figures). RACE 2 Plenty of ticks for the lightly raced CALIFORNIA GRASS bar the wide gate, that’s about the only negative I can find. He improved sharply from the first up run to his second up effort at Newcastle last week when zooming home late to just miss out. The additional trip here is right in his wheelhouse. CELESTIAL FURY is racing in good form & deserves another crack at this level. THE CARPET BAGGER has been mixing his distances of late, should get the right run from a perfect draw. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 13 – 12 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 I’m a fan of TAVI TIME & won’t be tipping against him here off a solid fresh effort when out of room the majority of the home straight, he soon made up for that with a dominant second up win at Newcastle & will only strip fitter for it. TOESONTHENOSE is up from Midway grade however he couldn’t have been any more impressive at that latest win, prior effort in the Four Pillars when trapped deep was a good one also. MANBEHINDTHEMONEY a market watch. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: TAVI TIME TO WIN. RACE 4 I’d be happy to be with the last start winner ORIENT’S SECRET here for the king of the Highway’s Matt Dunn however that gate really does put me off, he could end up covering a lot of additional ground. GALLANT STAR draws a lot more favourably & has a stack of upside, both fresh runs very good winning on debut before hitting the line hard first up at Randwick this grade last prep. He’s had a solid trial & should be ready to go fresh. ORIENT’S SECRET’s stablemate THE LIONS’ GATE is well placed & must be included. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Going with CHASE MY CROWN whose been up for a long time however continues to race well. She’s got the miles in her legs having raced over this trip & further of late whereas a couple of her main rivals SHADOWS OF LOVE & SPIRIT QUEEN rise in distance particularly the latter who jumps 300m off a 3-week break. Not saying they can’t win; they just may start unders. MOLLY NAILS in the mix also. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet: CHASE MY CROWN EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 6 Happy to be with EAGLEMONT stepping up in distance today. He’s going to get back which is his usual pattern however he’s always finishing his races off & has been looking for 2000m for some time. AKASAWA has been the victim of wide runs both outings this prep, that won’t be the case form the inside draw here. SIMPLY XTRAVAGANT is flying, made it 5 on the trot at Warren & yes although facing a much tougher task today just has to be included. Happy to take on REMATCH from the wide draw & the win last start which was on speed in a race which was very slowly run early on. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 17 – 13 Suggested Bet: EAGLEMONT EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Each-way with the second up FINEPOINT for me in the Group 3 Festival. Tidy effort when resuming in the Hot Danish sitting wide, this time around she draws to land a good run in the race, certainly close enough to strike in the straight. ACQUITTED will appreciate the step up in distance, won twice second-up & ran some nice races in decent company last prep. Must include GREBENI who has plenty of upside, winning chances certainly don’t end there though. Numbers: 5 – 15 – 17 – 7 Suggested Bet: FINEPOINT EACH-WAY. RACE 8 Hoping QUICK TEMPO doesn’t give away too much start here as we know how well he can attack the line which was certainly the case at Kembla last week. A Randwick winner the start prior he’s in peak form & can win if the cards fall his way. DRAGONSTONE also backs up, he’s testing my patience & no doubt most punters patience as well, just too consistent to leave out completely though. MALKOVICH always a chance powering along up front, he has trialled up very well for his return this afternoon. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet: QUICK TEMPO EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Last start Flemington winner LITTLE MIX is doing nothing wrong in her races this prep & is worth an each-way play here. The one box she’s yet to tick is the 2400m one however her run over it in the Group 3 Colin Stephen three back was good enough & if held up long enough rates a chance to get home over the top. SKY LAB is getting close, carries a kilo less than Newcastle which helps. STOCKMAN will be suited by the damp ground, wetter the better for him. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: LITTLE MIX EACH-WAY. RACE 10 DOLLAR MAGIC continues to race very consistently around this grade & does look suited from the good gate. He seems to handle both wet & dry going & drops a couple of kilos in weight off the most recent placing when out dashed to the line in a strong sprint home. SMASHING EAGLE will do his thing getting back & running on, he’ll get there in time again soon enough however is too costly for mine. LEGIO TEN a market watch, has the ability however not the gate & will go back. Numbers: 12 – 9 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet: DOLLAR MAGIC EACH-WAY. Market Market
