Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on June 8, 2023June 8, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Open looking race for the youngsters to kick off Stradbroke Day. Although not favourably drawn I’ll go with the very consistent ABOUNDING who was been narrowly beaten her past couple, suggest maybe a cold ride can set her up for a strong finish which we know she’s capable of. QUEEN OF DRAGONS was a big tip first up, unfortunately for her supporters she never got into the race & was doing her best work late, rise in trip should help. NAMESAKE maps well. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 2 Can’t see how they beat YELLOW BRICK here. Should have been going around in the Stradbroke & had he been he would have been right in the thick of it. He rises to a very suitable 1600m this afternoon taking on inferior opposition at set weights, all ticks no crosses. Expect SOOTHSAYER to take up a more prominent position from the better draw, the additional 200m won’t harm his chances either. Chris Waller brings REDIENER up from Sydney in winning form. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: YELLOW BRICK TO WIN RACE 3 This race is all about ANTINO who similar to Yellow Brick in the previous race had his entire preparation based on hopefully gaining a Stradbroke start however again things didn’t quite pan out. If he was a chance in that he’d be a better chance in this & I’m happy to be with him at a price no worse than $2.50. SKYMAN hit the line strongly last week, never really runs a bad race & the additional 100m is ideal. Gets pretty open from there on with many other chances. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet: ANTINO TO WIN (above $2.50) RACE 4 Going wide in the Brisbane Cup putting the roughie YAPHET on top. I liked his run in the Premiers Cup at Doomben only really warming up late at the end of the 2400m, he’s had one outing further than that being a strong closing 2nd in the 2500m SA Derby as a 3yo. I’d be surprised if he didn’t lap up the two miles. AL AABIR won the same race at Rosehill last Saturday the past two winners of this race have come through, lightly race in good hands has plenty of upside. SELINO another who will enjoy the trip. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: YAPHET EACH-WAY RACE 5 KING KAPA has done me no favours this time in however I’m giving him one more chance here. Although drawn well I’d like to see a patient ride as there does look to be good pace in the race & getting involved in an early duel won’t help his winning chances. Ditto BACCHANALIA who can take a trail from the good draw. Don’t rule out ALPINE EDGE, plenty of weight & a bad gate he’ll go back, look for him late. Numbers: 15 – 4 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: KING KAPA EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 6 WITHOUT A FIGHT may be stepping up in grade however he was super impressive winning here a fortnight back at only his second start in the country. His only other was a down the track effort in the Melbourne Cup & prior to that his form overseas was very good. If he shows the same turn of foot we saw last start look out! HUETOR was strong winning the Doomben Cup, he’s right in this as are the promising Derby runner up FAME & NUMERIAN who chased home HUETOR at Doomben. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 14 – 2 Suggested Bet: WITHOUT A FIGHT TO WIN RACE 7 Looks a wide open J.J. Atkins & for that reason I’m going with value putting CALIFORNIAN on top. There were a lot of good runs in the Sires a fortnight back including his, he’s been strong late at 1400m his past 3 starts, 1600 should be ideal. MAKE A CALL was definitely the unlucky runner in the Sires being checked when in my mind looking like winning the race, gets his chance to make amends. SNAPBACK sat 3 deep without cover, fought very well. Chances certainly don’t end there. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: CALIFORNIAN EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 8 I’m with THINK ABOUT IT in this year’s Stradbroke. He’s won 8 of 9 & arguably should have won at that only defeat, he could have been going into this race shooting for 10 straight looking to remain unbeaten! He’s very versatile however I’d suggest he ‘ll settle in the first six hopefully with some cover & from there the race should be his. CONVERGE was terrific last start chasing him home, finds an extra length around this track. CARDINAL GEM was huge sitting wide in the BRC Sprint, never won on good ground though, HAWAII FIVE OH is the map & weight horse. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 10 – 18 Suggested Bet: THINK ABOUT IT TO WIN RACE 9 Hoping for a few scratchings in this final race as there’s a couple down the bottom at good odds who can run well should they gain a start. EKATERINA just keeps on clocking slick sectionals & will appreciate getting back to 1350m. AUREUS ANGEL could have just about beaten COMRADE ROSA last start if not having to wait for a clear run, promising filly. The class runner is obviously OPAL RIDGE who is the tip should the other two not gain starts. Numbers: 17 – 18 – 15 – 13 Suggested Bet: EKATERINA/AUREUS ANGEL EACH-WAY (small bets) Market Market
