Michael Heaton’s Friday Carnarvon Preview Posted on June 8, 2023June 8, 2023 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 MONEY FOR MUSIC set a hot tempo in front last start and stuck on well to run (5L) second in a race run more than two seconds faster than the other 1200m Maiden on the day. A similar effort would see him hard to beat here. CAPTAIN BONNIE comes from the slower of the two maidens but was doing her best work late and she should be suited by a more genuine pace. SORAIS has his first start on the dirt but some of his grass form is handy enough to be more than competitive in a race like this. MISS HANDEL followed up her trial win with a nice dirt debut last start and will be finishing off hard late. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – MONEY FOR MUSIC WIN RACE 2 THE WITCH DOCTOR is racing with great consistency and hasn’t finished further back than fourth in her last seven starts across six different tracks. She drops from a 64+ to a 56+ here, has placed at all four starts at this track/distance and the in-form Austin Galati goes on. SUPERLOVE is another honest mare who is never far away in this class. She stuck on well at her first run back on the dirt and can lead this. PURE DYNAMITE was a strong winner at this track, distance and grade three starts ago and drops in class after an even effort last start. FRIARS GIFT next best. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – THE WITCH DOCTOR WIN RACE 3 MAHUTAS was caught off the track last start before running a gallant second and was also solid at his first run back on the dirt. He’s finished in the top two at five of his six starts at Carnarvon and gets a nice pull in the weights on his main dangers after ZJP’s claim. NIGHTS MYSTERY was backed into $1.40 favouritism at this track, distance and grade last start before getting posted wide without cover but was still a shade disappointing when knocking up to run fourth. He’s capable of bouncing back if he can cross to the lead and meets Heritage Sash 2.5kg better at the weights for his better effort two starts ago. RAKIURA ran very well at his first start at Carnarvon and has the form and racing pattern to be a handy acquisition this season. MOORUMBINE will be looking to bounce back from his poor last start performance. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – MAHUTAS WIN Same Race Multi – MAHUTAS (Top 3) & NIGHT’S MYSTERY (Top 3) RACE 4 SET THE SCENE is only coming out of a maiden but was eased down to romp in by more than five lengths and ran brilliant time (almost a length faster than the 64+ on the same day). The step to 1400m looks suitable and it’d be no surprise to see him progress through his grades. NERO CHIN CHIN is hard to catch but is usually quite consistent once he hits form. He was only beaten a nose last time out with 3.5 lengths back to NORTHERN RULER in third who has performed well at both starts on the dirt. MIRROR MOON an improver back into a C3. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – SET THE SCENE WIN RACE 5 REGAL CITY is first-up, no trial after almost 12 months off the scene but his form last year is hard to ignore. He’s a winner at his last three starts, including breaking 01:24:00 at this track/distance at his first run on the dirt. If he’s anywhere near right he should be there for a long way. SPEEDING COMET was an impressive last-start winner in this grade and Tash Faithfull stays aboard but he’s a query stepping beyond 1200m. BIG BLOWS drops 6.5kg from his last outing when off the track a lot of the way and should be almost ready to produce his best third-up. THE CROWN PRINCE bobbed up at odds last start and gets in with just 52kg again. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – REGAL CITY WIN RACE 6 WAR CLASS has his first start at Carnarvon but if he’s able to replicate his recent grass form he’ll be hard to beat. He drops from a metro 58+ where he hit the line well to run <3L fifth to Twice A Fortnight and subsequent winner Black Spirit. LAUTRE hit the line strongly when running the fastest closing sectionals at his dirt debut and should be better suited by the extra distance. SLEIPNIR steps up to a mile for the first time which might be a slight query but he hasn’t been far away and drops 3.5kg. HYPERSPACE usually improves into his campaigns and should be getting closer. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – WAR CLASS WIN Quaddie (Race 3-6) 3,4,5 1,4 1,2,4,7,9 1,5,9 Market Market
