Chris Nelson’s Doomben Best Bets Posted on May 30, 2019May 31, 2019 | Posted by Chris Nelson Chris Nelson’s Best Bets RACE 5 No.11 In Good Time Held up badly at a crucial stage in the straight here last start she only saw daylight late closing solidly to be beaten less than half a length on the line. Unfortunately that’s been her story of late as she suffered similar fates at two of her three previous starts Randwick and Hawkesbury unable to gain clear running when looking to have plenty to offer in the straight. RACE 6 No.2 Niccanova No luck last start when near enough to last and awkwardly placed in the run to the turn he made ground to the line clocking the 4th fastest last 200m split of the race. This was achieved without ever being fully clear in the straight with jockey Jimmy Orman sitting quietly in the saddle over the concluding stages, he really did go to the post with plenty in the tank. RACE 9 No.8 Shillelagh Really taken by her closing effort over the last 100m or so in the Doomben Cup. No concerns up to the 2200m and looking back over her last couple of starts over the trip on good ground they were a tough, narrow defeat in the Australian Cup and a very unlucky 5th in the MacKinnon Stakes when arguably should have won after knocked over in the straight.
