Glenn Ingram’s Saturday Flemington Preview

RACE 1

BIG SKY is an obvious talent, he’s shown to be fast and despite doing a few things wrong he may be good enough to take this out on debut for the Price & Kent stable. BORIDI is a speedy type by Profiteer, he’s more professional and has responded well when challenged in his jumpouts at Pakenham, that’s a good sign for race-day pressure. MIRADOR is nominated at Seymour on Thursday; the Brazen Beau gelding was visually impressive winning his latest heat at Flemington, the margin flattered the time recorded. NICCTINI & ISLE OF MONA both look to go ok.

Selections: 1,2,6,7

Suggested Bet: None

RACE 2

Like TARVUE on the 7-day back-up, ridden with intent and kicked strongly to win here last week, up in class, the sharp rise in distance is favourable. SCINTILLANTE looked to be battling at Sandown before J Mott lifted him over the final 100m, great ride, now up in distance for the first time since his 3YO season and appears ready for it. LEONCHROI won a last-man-standing affair at Geelong, he’s been up a long time so there’s caution with him holding form. POLITELY DUN was honest here last time off a 4 week gap and sure to be thereabouts.

Selections: 6,5,7,3

Suggested Bet: TARVUE each way

RACE 3

GOLD CHARIOT was impressive in defeat on debut then no match for one better when heavily-backed at Seymour, he stuck to the task and appears suited by the rise to 2000m and can go one better having something to chase. OUR CHIEF backs up from last week where he was ok with the race shape against, one-paced, may be looking for the extra ground now. WRIGLEY FIELD had no chance with the way the race was run at Sandown, potentially more speed engaged this time, weight relief from Radley’s claim. ZETHEROS is improving with racing and looking for 2000m plus.

Selections: 9,3,1,11

Suggested Bet: GOLD CHARIOT win

RACE 4

THINKING GOLD is on the up for the Moody & Coleman team, he was well-backed at Seymour and fought hard at the mile, a winner at this trip previously, he’s in the mix tackling the higher grade. FIORENOT has excellent form lines for this race, avoided the backside of Touchdown for an overdue win last start and this no harder, awkward draw means he’ll end up rearwards needing luck and/or a fast tempo. That form ties in with YES I KNOW who was beaten on his merits but has fared better at the barrier draw, becoming costly. DARTBOARD worked to the line ok fresh and then found the wrong race, sit/sprint at Nhill with a big weight, should be ready to show something now at 1800m on the bigger track, not the worst.

Selections: 13,2,14,4

Suggested Bet: THINKING GOLD 1 x 4

RACE 5

EGERTON needed to stand up after a slow start to the prep and did so winning a BM66 up the straight last start, and pulled up lame in the process. The sharp rise in class is offset by her liking for the straight track and staying at 1100m is a positive. Think she can win again. VAIN CHAMPAGNE was huge first-up on the same day, left with too much to do charged home in the inferior part of the course. Needs the speed on again and likely to get it from CELERITY who was super-impressive winning a BM70 over 1000m here last time, four attempts at 1100 without a win, this is her chance as the market suggests. SMART LITTLE MISS is ticking over well, she too needs the speed on.

Selections: 4,5,6,8

Suggested Bet: EGERTON win

RACE 6

SOMEWHERE received the important change of tactics at Flemington and was heavily-backed to do so, this is a good race for him to keep progressing. MAKE IT SWEET had market support at odds first-up and ran well with the big weight, settled perhaps a pair further back than hoped and chased hard to the line after being held up. Usually follows up second-up and should be on-speed in this field with a senior engaged. D-Day for the class runner of the field JIMMY THE BEAR, he’s been uninspiring in two runs this campaign, loves Flemington and the mile, his time to step up. HARRY’S YACHT was more tractable on-speed at Geelong last start, similar tactics expected.

Selections: 5,6,1,2

Suggested Bet: SOMEWHERE win

RACE 7

Raffle to the start the quaddie. SWEETHEARTED is the starting point. He was boldly-placed as a 3YO and now finds his level, improved between runs to win at Geelong and has performed strongly at Flemington over the sprint trips. Drawn well, form jock Luke Nolen rides. RED GALAXY was given time to balance up and produced the run of the day against the pattern at Geelong first-up, the straight track is a query and may find them too sharp. MOBY DICK has a booming finish and recorded fast closing splits at Geelong fresh, can mix form but his best can win. IMMORTAL STAR is racing well and will give a sight on-speed.

Selections: 10,4,9,12

Suggested Bet: None

RACE 8

DARKBONEE is fit, in-form and on the up for trainer Symon Wilde. He’s aggressively-placed up in grade but deserves serious respect as the map horse in this field, he can take a position-in-run advantage over key rivals with no weight and take beating at the 2000m which should suit given how he raced (headed and rallied to score) at Geelong. SAINT GEORGE broke through for an overdue win at Cranbourne and was heavily-backed on the day, six weeks between runs is usually a negative, this stable do it better than most. BERKELEY SQUARE is also coming off a freshen, he will have to chase with a big impost. JENNI’S MEADOW & FORTUNE have minor claims.

Selections: 12,2,1,10

Suggested Bet: DARKBONEE win

RACE 9

BOTANICAL BOY was truck loaded in betting last few minutes at Geelong and the race panned out perfectly sitting off a good speed, this is much stronger, a winning hope again. There’s very little separating his key rivals, ZOUPER FUND is having a good preparation, impressive win first-up on wet and then game in defeat at Cranbourne, Mark Zahra a key rider booking. RECON comes through the same race and took all the market support but seemingly every chance in defeat. CODIGO returns to Flemington where his best efforts have come.

Selections: 14,8,6,11

Suggested Bet: Multiples with 14 & 8

RACE 10

SASS APPEAL looks a progressive style of filly for the Danny O’Brien stable, good debut and followed it up ridden like a good thing at Seymour sent to the front and strong her final 400m. Up in grade against her own age, Logan Bates the right man to rate her in the lead from a wide draw. BUCCLEUCH returns from a spell after a plethora of jumpouts and trials to have him ready, the 2YO form is suspect, he does have course experience and will be strong at the end. JEWEL BANDIT has had a faultless start to his career, goes 1100-1400 which is a concern. THE VOLTA has a perfect draw and map to be win again.

Selections: 8,1,2,4

Suggested Bet: SASS APPEAL win

NEXT BEST: R10 #8 SASS APPEAL
