Chris Nelson’s Saturday Wyong Preview Posted on January 8, 2026January 8, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 It’s Lakes Day at Wyong on Saturday as we head out of town for a week. No rain on the horizon as we head for 39 degrees, the going will most certainly be good & firming up with each race. Couple of early scratchings in the opener sees only the single experienced runner taking on a few newcomers. (5) ROYAL EXILE is that lone experience runner & there was plenty to like about what he did winning a maiden against the older horses on debut at Taree. The time was solid & he looked to have gas in the tank on the line. (3) GOLD GLOBE & (4) PROTON clearly the best of the debutantes. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: ROYAL EXILE TO WIN. RACE 2 The resuming (9) ZUMBO a big market watch in this week’s Highway. Only a lightly raced Zoustar filly she won her first two starts (both first up), she was then beaten at this level (2nd) also when fresh before down the track at big odds in the Listed Heritage last September. No trials is the query? (10) LADY OLENNA looks close, caught wide last start she fares badly at the gates here & may suffer the same fate, luck required. (12) ALL ADORE & (16) CANDO ATTITUDE bring winning form albeit from country locations. Numbers: 9 – 10 – 12 – 16 Suggested Bet: Follow any market support for ZUMBO. RACE 3 (9) PERFECT JUSTICE looks very well placed in today’s Midway & in early markets does look ‘overs’. Placed in three successive races at this level he stepped up in grade last start when out of the money however back to something more suitable & with a 2kg claim for Molly Bourke he’ll carry less weight than at 2 of those 3 prior runs. The consistent (7) OAKFIELD SATURN draws out however races well here on her home deck & has only been out of the placings twice in 9 starts. (4) CHARLEROI right at his peak fourth run back should get a good steer from the favourable draw. Numbers: 9 – 7 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: PERFECT JUSTICE EACH-WAY. RACE 4 I’ll take the punt with (8) SOUNDS UNUSUAL here however am wary of the rise to 2000m at only his third run back, the market moves will guide us. Impressed the way he hit the line last time if not a run short is clearly the horse to beat. (4) UNLIMITED raced right away to score at Randwick when stepping up to this trip, the 3kg increase in weight a concern however shouldn’t spend a penny from the draw. Surely (1) REDSTONE WELL shows up at this easier grade aided by the claim. More questions than answers this race unfortunately. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 The resuming Victorian visitor (7) PRINCESS QUE looks tough to beat here. Her best form seems to be when fresh winning her first two starts last prep before just tailing off at her later outings. A couple of recent jumpouts should see her ready to go here & this is clearly her preferred distance. (4) HANAU didn’t fire first up however his form last prep was ok & could be overs in a race such as this. (9) SLINKY didn’t get a lot of room first up however was safely held when clear, one to include in all exotics however she may just need this run also? Numbers: 7 – 4 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet: Follow any market support for PRINCESS QUE. RACE 6 Hoping for a genuine tempo here as (8) BIG RED TEQUILA will highly likely settle in the second half of the field. That was the case at Randwick second-up when chasing home well behind the very smart Ice Kool who tackles the rich Sunlight Classic at the Gold Coast later today, clearly the best form line in this race. Respect for the lightly raced (11) BESIDE THE OCEAN who holds a very good strike rate to date, takes a step up in grade today however tumbles 4kg & is in the right yard. (5) PETTICOAT is speedy & 1100m suits, wide gate & rise in class a couple of concerns though. Numbers: 8 – 11 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet: BIG RED TEQUILA TO WIN (small bet). RACE 7 Found this race very difficult & ended up settling on the third-up (7) SHELSTEIN who drops in grade & lands a good gate which should enable a cosy run. Yes, he rises in weight however was quite comfortable with the big imposts when winning & placing in Queensland last prep. (6) BARBRAY zoomed through late into fourth spot second-up (1400m), wins have been around the mile range & here he is dropping back 100m, concerning however can’t completely rule out. (5) LOVING is lightly raced with upside, (13) SEQUITA well in the market does come straight out of maiden grade. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 5 – 13 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 Topweight (1) ACCREDITED will start a short-priced favourite in this BM100 & that looks more than fair on his best form although keep in mind he is yet to win this prep. His runs have all been in stronger races though & from the perfect draw should find himself placed in the first three settling down. (6) SPACE TRACKER didn’t finish off last start, the drop back in distance for this looks very suitable as does the claim. (7) RYHTHM OF LOVE resumes, just the one outing last campaign suggesting there were issues, betting? Numbers: 1 – 6 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet: ACCREDITED TO WIN ($2.20 or better). RACE 9 I’ll tip (1) ROBUSTO here however I do have a legitimate concern. Without doubt his run last week at Eagle Farm in The Buffering was outstanding as he covered a ton of additional ground & all without any cover. The concern is him backing up within 7 days plus another wide gate! He’s at the sort of price though where we can have a few dollars each-way. (3) KNOW THYSELF has won 8 of 12, that record speaks for itself, drawn to be in the finish once again. Professional placegetter (13) CHICA MOJITO is always around the mark; she’s had far too many chances to win without doing so however placings are a different story. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 13 – 7 Suggested Bet: ROBUSTO EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 10 Although widely drawn the Chris Waller trained (7) ALTHOFF is busting to break through & this does appear a suitable assignment. Strong late both runs this time in he gets an additional 150m this time around & with a solid tempo can be the one finishing best. The consistent (4) PUNTIN resumes, key market watch as certainly good enough to win this if fit enough. The lightly raced (14) ANTHRACITE in the mix also. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 14 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
