Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on May 20, 2025May 20, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MAGNIQUE and ADMIRE THE GIRL are two progressive fillies who will eventually make their mark on Saturday racing. Given the barrier draw and the progression she made from first-up to second-up going to side with MAGNIQUE to get the job done. Love the way she ambled up to them after over-racing middle stages and as long as there’s some tempo on for her, think she’s capable of going back to back. ADMIRE THE GIRL beat the older horses last start in a C1 and can easily continue on her winning ways. GIRLS DAY OUT trialled really well and all Dan Morton’s fresh horses are flying. NICKELPLAY has always looked above average. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – MAGNIQUE WIN RACE 2 THE CALABRESE – here we go. We’re talking about a horse who does everything wrong, has no idea what racing is all about, and will lose more races than he wins because of his poor manners – but it’s impossible not to be with him off the back of his slashing return to racing. Back into a maiden – excellent, across to Belmont Park – arguably the most important element. If he does things 75% right – he’ll win. TOP OF THE WALK ran well behind a nice filly in a C1 last week. PURPLE CIRCLE showed speed in the trial win. THE GOOD HARV showed glimpses last prep. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – THE CALABRESE WIN RACE 3 LORD SHIVA has already proven an astute purchase by Mitch Pateman and he’s racing at the same distance, in the same grade at his second outing for the new stable and connections and on paper looks hard to topple. He’s high speed, he’s only going to be fitter second-up after resuming without a trial and see no reason why 60kg would stop him. HEZANGELIC won well down the 1000m straight fresh and from the draw should get the right run. PRECAST was finishing off as well as anything at her WA debut. SOLAR SYSTEM has been a bit frustrating since arriving in the West but hopefully Repossession Saturday was a turning point for they yard. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – LORD SHIVA WIN RACE 4 VOMO ISLAND near on bolted last start at Albany. He was leader’s back and then out of nowhere the accelerator went down and all of a sudden he was 4L in front of the field. Did a great job to hold on late considering just how much he did wrong in the middle stages and with a senior rider going on he’ll be hard to beat if he can settle at some point and get a mid-race breather. ZORBRIST was narrowly defeated last start in a C1 but does get some weight relief here. Still got a lot to learn. CLASSIC IMPACT has no weight and goes for Amy Jo Hayes. QUEEN’S SACRIFICE has been in form for months. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – VOMO ISLAND WIN RACE 5 ACROSS GENERATIONS is better than what he showed last start. Interesting that he stays at 1200m rather than heading out to 1400m (especially with a 3 year old 1400 Saturday) but trusting in the decision making process from Neville Parnham and love the fact that this race has a stack of speed (Mighty Hosanna, Cheeky Charlotte, Cantrix, Shasfa) and hopefully that will allow him to settle midfield and make a run late. MIGHTY HOSANNA was only gunned down in the shadows last start. Still seems to wait for them and still looks lost when she doesn’t have the fence to follow. MILLY’S CLEVER TOO can let the speed go and swoop late. CLASSIC RULER an improver. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet – ACROSS GENERATIONS WIN RACE 6 TYCOON HARRY has returned in good order this preparation and is superbly placed by Jim Taylor. After the claim for in form apprentice Brayden Gaerth he gets in with 59kg in a 0MWLY and he should be able to come across with speedy Great Southern galloper Avoidance and park up over the pace. Think he’s now looking for 1200m. AVOIDANCE will be hard to run down if they allow Rosie Mahony to cross. He’s a strong front runner. SIMPLY THINKIN’ looks ready to win, especially from the ideal barrier. CHERRY CAN RUN is always there abouts. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet – TYCOON HARRY WIN RACE 7 FIFTH ESSENCE might just be a progressive 3 year old on the rise. He did plenty wrong first-up from a mile off them but did catch the eye late, went to an Albany second-up when $34 into $2.80 before being scratched (punters nightmare) and then again was annihilated in betting at Pinjarra when pulling out enough late to hold out. Think the fence is key for him. CARAWAY deserved that win last start as she’s been right in the finish all preparation and often raced without much luck. Looks a great bread and butter filly. MISTRESS OF WAR hasn’t put a foot wrong for over a month now. OISIN over-raced first-up. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – FIFTH ESSENCE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3,5,6,7,8 1,4,10 2,4,6,7,9 3,8 Market Market
