Scott Embry’s Sunday Mount Barker Preview Posted on January 20, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 TAXI put in two ripping runs down at Esperance in a C2 1600 behind Wheatstack Thief and then a C2 2000 behind Count Grundy when third (held up at crucial stages in the home straight). Went to a2100 back at Belmont Park last start and was never in race. Back to a country C2, back to 1850m and with CJP aboard he gets the nod in what is a very weak race. THREE EZE has barrier 1 and Victoria Corver going back on. Beat home subsequent C1 winner Solid Gold first-up to break a long run of outs. GEE FORCE is first-up 1850m but is a one paced stayer. The 1450m trial was better. ODDONEOUT I a 24 start maiden but is racing consistently. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – TAXI WIN RACE 2 DUCHEES DEMERIT has clearly come back to racing well. Was big first-up 1500 behind Elite Fighter when carrying 60kg and only being beaten a head. Two starts later won a 52+ 1900 at Narrogin beating Truevinsky (since second to Wild Galah), then beat home Scream IN Blue last start this track and distance. Has to concede 1.5kg to Scream In Blue here as they meet again but see no reason why he can’t hold form. SCREAM IN BLUE goes well at Barker and provided he doesn’t get held up from the inside barrier he should be right in the finish again. HOIST THE COLOURS is a last start C3 winner leading throughout at Pinjarra and is one from one at the Barker 1850. BLAISZEN CAZAH has hit a purple patch and is another winning chance in a handy race. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – DUCHEES DEMERIT WIN RACE 3 PROMISED BRIDE looked destined to do it tough on paper last start and was left a sitting duck on the final 100 to be run down. The prior Northam maiden form behind Universal Playboy and The Big One stacks up and from a far more favourable alley she gets her opportunity. PRINCESS CHUNK was scratched from a Geraldton maiden last Sunday due ot the heat. Her last two trials have been excellent and she should measure up on debut. STRENIA loomed large last start and only blew out late. SPEED BUBBLE has shades on for his return to racing and went around $5.50 on debut in a race that contained Legacy of Tara and Fleur Delacour. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – PROMISED BRIDE WIN RACE 4 CALL IT A LOAN has been hitting the line brilliantly at trials. Troy Turner riding for Adam Durrant is not something you see a lot of and the fact he’s stuck with this galloper the whole way through into race day suggests there’s something to work with. Love the way he’s hit the line so far and think he can win on debut. STARCHIENNE has had four starts and finished in the money at each and every one of them. Third to Queen Alina on debut reads up well now and even the second at Kalgoorlie over 1200m behind Storm Lord (now a C1 winner) measures up. William Lewthwaite is producing plenty of winners from a small number of runners. Respect. MOVING ON was eye-catching last start behind Ribbing over 1230m at Albany. PLAYING RIO was well supported at double figures on debut and ran a solid race from the breeze. Should nearly find the top here. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – CALL IT A LOAN WIN RACE 5 ZAC LUVS TO FLY looks hard to beat in this 58+ 1300. Lead and won a C3 at Pinjarra after a mid-prep freshen and trial and then skipped clear on straightening before being ground down by The Admiral last start. Back 100m and straight to the top at Barker makes him an attractive proposition. EXCELESTIAL did nothing but drift in the market last start but rewarded Robert Witten for outstanding placement. Another winnable race for her. ROSEBUSH “just needed an extra 100m and she wins” was the post-race declaration from Racing Manager Kyza Stewart last start. She gets exactly that here and with a bit of luck she looks to be building towards something. GARAGE DAYS gives fledging foreman turned trainer Tom Wolfe his first starter and expect the nephew of a gun (and son of a gun weevil) to get them up and going. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – ZAC LUVS TO FLY WIN RACE 6 PRINCE RAGNAR, NIGHTS MYSTERY and LUCRATIVE LUCY are likely to lock horns in an on speed battle over the flying 1000. Hard to see any of the three riders looking to hand-up and so we’ll side up with the one who might just be the toughest of the three in PRINCE RAGNAR. Can be very hit and miss but this looks a nice enough race for him if he can absorb the pressure. LUCRATIVE LUCY is flying but is drawn the widest of the three and might have to do it tough throughout. NIGHTYS MYSTERY can be hit and miss but did win in style at Barker earlier in the season. BLAZING TYCOON has 60kg and likely settles last. Still wouldn’t surprise to see him flash at them late. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – PRINCE RAGNAR WIN RACE 7 RIVER RUBICON was all the rage in the Fitzpatrick Plate but was chasing from the moment the gates opened. He never really travelled the winner in a race where Strathmore Rose had them running from start to finish. Happy to follow up with him as he steps out to 1300m and going off the way he hit the line behind Burnya To Survive in the 78+ at Ascot the barrier might be a blessing in disguise. OLY’S CHOICE was third across the line in the Fitzpatrick Plate and ran straight past him. Weighed in light and was disqualified but showed his class and the fact he’s more than up to these. CHEVAL DE VAGA wasn’t his same tough on speed self last start outside of Time Scale. Expect him to work across and be there a logn way. KOHLI continues to race really well. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – RIVER RUBICON WIN RACE 8 SPEEDY PYE finished third behind Back IN Blue in a C2 at Albany three starts ago, second to Prince Ragnar (as the only horse in the race to make any real impression late) in a C2 1100 at Albany two starts ago and then beat all bar Double Thumbs Up last start when backed into odds on. Bursting to win another race. DOES HE KNOW hasn’t raced for two months but has blinkers attached, Brad Rawiller booked to ride instead of a claim and has the speed to lead this. Big danger. FLY BETTER is going lengths better than numerical form suggests. RIBBING broke his maiden well. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 11 – 2 Suggested Bet – SPEEDY PYE WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 4,6 1,2,3,6,8,10 2,3,6 1,5 Market Market
