Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on December 16, 2021December 17, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 REVITUP was simply too brilliant for her opposition last start under Holly Watson. Found the front and was allowed to roll throughout. Never looked like being run down and won by 4.5L. Rises to 56.5kg and will need to hold form at her fourth run of her initial preparation but she should again find the fence and prove hard to run down. COSTUME PARTY found a fair bit of traffic in the same race and looked to be travelling nicely. Meets Revitup 3.5kg better at the weights here and if she can get a tow into the race, she’ll be finishing hard. DOES HE KNOW was set a task in the Initial Plate and was immediately tipped out. Has always looked professional. SAINTORIO was working to the line on debut. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – REVITUP WIN RACE 2 BIG BADA BOOM refused to stretch out and took no competitive part early in the race last time out. Has since trialled and watching the replay it’s amazing to think he actually beat three horses home. Ran the fastest L1200, 1000, 800, 600 & 400 of the race and prior to that had been in great form, beating Big Screen first-up with 60 and finishing second to Playing Marika. Interesting speed map with plenty of natural on-pace types. He’s drawn a gate which gives Parnham options. LORENTINIO was enormous last start. Working three wide the entire trip in a race where they were marching throughout. Looked gone on the corner but just kept coming. Will need a peach from a tricky draw here. BEAT THE BRO looks like getting the run he needs and last start he showed what he’s always promised. Consistency has been his issue in the past. BIG SCREEN is flying there is no doubt about that. Stacks of speed in this and he is likely to absorb pressure throughout. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet – BIG BADA BOOM WIN RACE 3 REGAL POWER looks to have the Ted Van Heemst Stakes at his mercy. Likely to go round somewhere between $1.35 and $1.45 throughout betting and at Weight For Age conditions he’s going to be awfully hard to beat. Beat Neufbosc by 2.7L, beat Platoon by 3.8L and meets them again at WFA, while Marocchino, Cockney Crew and Temptacion tackle WFA for the first time and are not suited to the conditions. His race to lose on paper. NEUFBOSC has to be the logical danger. He’ll only get better as they step him out toward the Perth Cup and Neville Parnham looks like he’s timing his run to perfection as he did in 2020/21. MAROCCHINO was left vulnerable chasing into the headwind last Saturday. COCKNEY CREW will roll along and try to break them open at the 800. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – NEUFBOSC PLACE RACE 4 AIN’T NO OTHER MAN ran third behind The Front Bar first-up in a 3 year old Plate at 1000m, then finished down the placings in the Placid Ark but still only beaten 2.5L by Flying Missile and Liwa, before taking on the older horses in a blisteringly run 72+ 1100m where Ziebell and Kenyluck burnt the turf throughout. Thought he did a good job to stick on and back to his own Age Group in SWP conditions looks a sneaky chance at a double figure quote. THE VELVET QUEEN has announced herself this preparation as an emerging talent. She has settled rearward in slowly run races and peeled off some incredible closing splits. Will need to get over them again from a fair way back. PROBITY comes from the same race and was luckless in on the fence. Senior rider on offsets the negative weight swing. PIXIE CHIX was great last start behind The Front Bar and Beads. The gate hurts. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – AIN’T NO OTHER MAN EACHWAY RACE 5 ALL DAY SESSSION was the second emergency for the Group One Winterbottom Stakes only 21 days ago. Ran second in the 78+ consolation behind Triple Missile. He is a 66+ winner, he is a 72+ winner (over Kissonallforcheeks) and he is a winner with 61kg previously. Maps a treat and looks extremely well placed by Ash Maley. NOWHITEFLAG will have all eyes on him as the gates open. If he can kick through and find the fence, he’s simply a different horse. Capable of going through the grades now. REIGN OF FIRE is a nice 4 year old resuming. Broke through last preparation in a 66+ demolition job when he won by over 3L. Should get the right run midfield with cover. APPLE SCHNAPPS has been in form for months now and while he is likely to have to breeze outside of Nowhiteflag with 61kg he’s extremely tough. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – ALL DAY SESSION EACHWAY RACE 6 GUNMETAL GREY has been going really well at odds in the Fillies & Mares Series recently. Since a freshen up in five runs back this campaign she has drawn 15/15, 10/12, 14/15, 12/13 and 8/13. Finally drawn a gate to be able to land in a position just behind the speed and given her efforts in the Jungle Mist and Jungle Dawn, don’t see a reason why she can’t play a part in this at an eachway quote. STARFIELD IMPACT has a set of blinkers added for the first time in her career. She should get a similar run to Gunmetal Grey and her best is good enough to win this. QUEEN OF SOUL has come back bigger and better this preparation. Now that she’s sound she will go through the grades. UNIVERSAL PLEASURE was huge in the Jungle Mist and then stretched too far in the Jungle Dawn. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 12 – 6 Suggested Bet – GUNMETAL GREY EACHWAY RACE 7 DANCE MUSIC will be one of the better weighted horses in the Nation on Saturday as a m105 rater at SWP with 59kg against her own gender. She won the Starstruck Classic and La Trice Classic with 58.5kg and this year only carries half a kilo extra after winning the Northerly Stakes. Has form around the best in WA and is incredibly well suited by the conditions of this race. Will have to work across to find the front but apart from potentially Beret (surprise leader two starts back) there doesn’t look to be a natural leader in the race. Brad Parnham should control the race and class takes her a very, very long way. PLAYING MARIKA is the poster girl for 7 day back-ups. Her last three wins have all been off 7 days and she’s dangerous from the draw. SOLAIA was not suited in the AJ Scahill. This is one of her target races for the preparation. ANGELIC MISS continues to step out over further and continues to win. She’s got a great turn of foot. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – DANCE MUSIC WIN RACE 8 WRITTEN MATTER is clearing the bar each and every time it is raised so far. Still a work in progress, green, raw and extremely talented. Had to really grit his teeth last start to get over Kenyluck and now has to tackle 78+ opposition. There is a stack of speed in this (too much speed) and Written Matter can opt out and watch the race unfold rearward with cover. If the likes of Gemma’s Son, Carocapo, Chantorque, Charge, Flying Missile and Kenyluck overcook it then he’ll be hitting the line as hard as anything. GEMMA’S SON is a gun. He runs for the apprentices, he flies fresh and David Harrison has ignored the pull of the feature races over the Carnival. FLYING MISSILE is coming from 3 year old Stakes races and drops to the minimum. Can definitely measure up in this grade but will need a serious steer. RESORTMAN was solid at his return to racing. Expecting him to join Written Matter in opting out of the speed battle. Numbers: 12 – 2 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – WRITTEN MATTER EACHWAY RACE 9 POULTON LE SANDS ran fifth in the Ascot Gold Cup two starts ago at Listed Level only beaten just over 3L by Midnight Blue, Bad Wolf, Playing Marika and Stafford’s Lad. Beat home Paddy’s Shadow, Mr Delegator, Media Baron, Marocchino, Taxagano, Temptaction, Royal Command and Utgard Loki. Gets back into a 60+ Graduation with 56.5kg and while Patrick Carbery jumps ship to side with Team Williams expecting him to take beating in this. FAIRY FAST was luckless last week and is proven on the quick back-up. Should land in a lovely position from the draw and can stay. HE’S A LUCKY LAD is a 3 year old coming through the grades nicely. First time at a staying trip but looks like he’ll eat up the ground. CREZEE has always shown staying ability. Last start was a ripper. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – POULTON LE SANDS EACHWAY RACE 10 KERMAN ROCK has only won the 1 race in his career but he has also finished second in a Belmont Guineas behind Sheza Chalmer and third in a WATC Derby behind Western Empire and Temptaction. Clearly has the ability and showed last week with 60kg that he’s almost ready. Open staying race, drawn to get a nice run close to the speed. COME RIGHT BACK was a replay watchers dream last start. Never got clear until the race was all over and then was flashing through late. Again drawn awkwardly, again to be ridden by a 3kg claimer and likely to go round relatively short. Buyer beware. THE ROAN RANGER much like Kerman Rock has only won the 1 race in his career but shown flashes of brilliance. LADY DUCKWORTH has been building into the campaign. She’s knocking on the door. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – KERMAN ROCK EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 7 – 10) 1,3,4,5 1,2,4,7,12 2,4,6,7 1,2,4,6 Market Market
