Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on February 25, 2021February 27, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 YARDMAN was a little stiff last week when travelling up strongly behind horses turning for home and then being forced to ease and come around heels. The run was solid and on the 7 day back up he gets another perfect opportunity to break through. THE SLUG went around last Sunday at Pinjarra and ran through the line well. Looks like she will get the trip and should land in an ideal position in running. TRISUEM has been getting back in slowly run races and flashing late. Comes into this on the fresh side. MOLLY MAGEE is slowly but surely improving in her race manners and tractability. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – YARDMAN WIN RACE 2 PHONEME simply settled in an impossible position in running last time out. Once Living The Dream found the top and controlled the tempo Phoneme was left out the back with nothing capable of taking him into the race. Did a super job to get as close as he did and looks poised to strike in this moderate 69+ affair. Can settle at least a pair or two closer from the draw. THAT’S FUNNY AZ is the obvious danger on paper and will take luck out of the equation with Hefel expected to burn early to find the front. Highly talented and progressive front running type. OUR IDYLL gets some well deserved weight relief and is hard to knock. JUICING CARROTS is always capable in this grade. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – PHONEME WIN RACE 3 PORPHYRIO is going super at the minute and in an evenly graded 1800m looks a big chance from the draw. Should settle midfield with cover with main rivals likely to concede her a head start. Let down powerfully to win last start and looks ready to tackle the distance and grade. Brett Pope’s yard starting to fire and Kristy Bennett is having a breakout season in the saddle. SOWAR was never a chance on paper last start from the horror draw and it will pay to simply forget he even went round. His previous win this track/distance/grade was strong. SAFE TO MAKEUP seems to go best when kept between 1600-1800 so dropping back in trip looks a positive for her. ACERMETRIC may well roll to the top and can give some cheek. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – PORPHYRIO WIN RACE 4 SEMINOLE BRAVE is on the 7 day back-up after a brave on speed effort last week. Drew wide, landed three deep outside the leader before being able to slot in when Shaun O’Donnell showcased his reverse parking abilities. Draws a gate to settle leader’s back (or even take up the running) and is going very well. FANGIO is a hard mare to line-up. Looking to win five on the bounce but has been beating up on very moderate opposition in the Great Southern. Looks like she will measure up but likely to open up short for a mare who faces her toughest test to date and likely settles near last. GIANT LEAP is building into the preparation and was simply run off his feet last start. MY GREEK BOY is more than capable in this grade and has hit form. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – SEMINOLE BRAVE WIN RACE 5 WESTERN EMPIRE pulled himself silly in the Challenge Stakes, throwing his head around and over racing in the early and middle stages. Expecting them to go much faster in the Lex Piper stakes as Castillo Del Lago will be parked up outside of Em Tee Aye, ensuring they don’t walk. Western Empire should land one out and one back and from there he looks very hard to beat. EM TEE AYE is well suited at set weights and penalties. When you break down his sections from all of his wins (and big efforts in defeat) it is when they are going faster than average tempo. CASTILLO DEL LAGO is a rolling type and is more than capable of making a race of it. OFF WEGO will settle last and wind up late. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – WESTERN EMPIRE WIN RACE 6 TAMBORA is a lightly raced and progressive 3 year old going through the grades. His natural front running pattern makes him an exciting commodity to follow as he doesn’t find any bad luck in his races. Was knocked off by talented filly La Farola in a 3 year old plate two starts ago before dominating from out in front back at the provincials at his most recent. Looks like he’ll only get better over further and should have them chasing from the 600. EURASIA had no luck last start and was forced to make a mid-race move when the leaders were getting it far too cheap. Move didn’t come off, but he also lost no admirers. AVALON BAY comes back in trip and has a nice turn of acceleration. RIVALRY GALORE hasn’t won since his 3 year old feature victory but showed something last time out. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – TAMBORA WIN RACE 7 SOLAIA has to take on 5 sets of the Cerise and White but at set weights and penalties she gets a wonderful opportunity to add to her Black Type success. There is no pace in this race at all and Lucy Warwick may well find herself in front by default. From there she can control the tempo and the race and run it to suit herself. She has a seamless turn of acceleration when asked for an effort and may well leave them flat footed as they turn for home. CHICLETT won well against the older horses first-up and the form was proven through Born to Try on Wednesday at Ascot. Like the way this filly goes about things. TESTING LOVE won soft first-up but the draw hurts. SPRITELY STAR was left in the breeze last start and the Peters horses do tend to get lost in that position. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – SOLAIA WIN RACE 8 BERET was one of the runs of the meeting on Pinjarra Magic Millions day. That’s Funny Az skipped around the 1400m circuit some 7L faster than average and Beret was out the back, wide and chasing throughout. Super effort to close off as well as she did and with even luck looks hard to hold out here. RUM RAKER comes from the exact same form reference race and was strong through the line. Has gone to a new level in the last few months, in career best form. LONDON MISS is very hard to knock. Maps well, settles close handy and doesn’t run bad races. TOMMY BLUE maps to get an ideal run and is always well thought of in this grade. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – BERET EACHWAY RACE 9 PLATINUM BULLET was huge in the 1000m race won by Mood Swings and containing rivals Hoboken, Plutocracy, Guns of Navarone, Santiago Gal, Time to Sizzle, Pearls and Prawns and Kramden. Was drawn in the river in that race, should get a much more suitable run in transit from the better gate and if she can be within striking distance turning for home and reproduce that final 600 split she is more than capable of turning the tables. MOOD SWINGS concedes her 2kg from last start but he should get a near identical run to what he enjoyed when victorious last start. TIME TO SIZZLE will again need to burn the candle at both ends. She is going enormous but that early work to cross is telling late. RIVER BEAU beat Platinum Bullet at their last encounter and gets a significant weight swing on her for beating her home. Numbers: 7 – 14 – 9 – 11 Suggested Bet – PLATINUM BULLET WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 5,6 1,3 3,5,6,7,9,10 2,7,9,11,14 Market Market
