Scott Embry’s Saturday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on October 16, 2026October 16, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 BUDINO headed to Kalgoorlie over the round for Dan & Ben Pearce and was left with MR Peter Fernie to continue her career on the Goldfields. She’s 1400m back to 1200m, she’s got Lucy Fiore jumping aboard and considering that Cambana Lodge has half the field we’ll trust that Lucy is booked on the best winning chance. CARBARLOTT ran alright on debut at York when going around in a 46+. Nice to see her find a maiden race here and she drops 5kg as well. VIVALDA looked like being a nice maiden for the region at her first-up run when a narrow second to Dance Version. Wheels fallen off since. Hopefully shades sharpen her up. HARD TO TOP met with plenty of support at Moora and ran surprisingly well. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – BUDINO WIN Race 2 HELLO VENETA led and won a C1 at Northam before heading into a 58+ on Hannans Day. She was no match for sharp Fernie 4 year old Morf and now staying in Kalgoorlie with Peter Fernie she’s been able to find a C2. Nice drop in grade, Lucy booked to ride, races on speed – ticks a lot of boxes. COULDABEENAHANDBAG deserves to win one. Has finished in the money at her last five outings and is bursting to win a race. SPANK APPEAL hasn’t had much go right for him so far this prep. Has raced in Westspeed Platinum / Class 5 company since he won two in a row 12 months ago. Finding a country C2 is a luxury. Difficult horse so trained locally and not having to travel might also be a big help. GOLD LILLY has had a consistent season and was right on the heels of Couldabeenahandbag last start. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – HELLO VENETA WIN Race 3 ALOTOFBANTER ran second to Morf in a C2 1200, ran third to Door Buster in a 58+ 1100 and then last weekend went down narrowly in a race at Leonora. The Leonora form isn’t attractive, the 0 from 16 at Kalgoorlie isn’t attractive, the winless streak of 1324 days isn’t attractive, but, Austin Galati on certainly is. So many of Paul Tapper’s are going super without winning and he deserves a change of fortune. SOVEREIGN CRUST showed that the fresh run at $18 was no fluke when holding off subsequent winner Peanut Butter to break her maiden second-up. Straight to the top and takes running down. WHATOYUTALKINBOUT can go back to parking up on speed after going back last start. HOLD MY WINE looked talented early but never came on. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – ALOTOFBANTER WIN Race 4 LANTA looks to have found a very winnable race. Since breaking his maiden he has been a model of consistency in these C1/C2 races and his runner up performances to Lendanear, Lord Momo and most recently Just Sublime on Hannans Day are all good enough to win this. THE CANDY KID is rock hard fit and di run third in a Tatts Cup to The Jester’s Son her at 1600m earlier in the season. Last 8 have been in higher grade and the last time he raced in a C2 he ran third after parking wide throughout. Well placed. PEANUT BUTTER showed a bit of grit and determination to hold on last start after being caught three deep the trip without any cover. Starting to put it all together now. RACY RASCAL can look to come across from the wide gate and park outside The Candy Kid. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – LANTA WIN Race 5 JUST FAMOUS ran third behind Last Stylebender and Timeless Gem in the $100,000 Ron Sayers Sprint (66+) and now drops back into a heat of the Tabtouch Westspeed Platinum Series. Has to carry 59.5kg after the claim of Jason Li but the run was fantastic and she’s proven in c70+ grade. Class runner and a huge run against the pattern on Cup Day. MORF is emerging nicely through the grades. He is drawn outside his stablemate Chipilly so he might have to be content for the breeze here and that definitely makes his task just a little tougher. DOOR BUSTER has a seriously sharp turn of acceleration when her mind is on the job. Nearly went for a buck in the first 200m last start and then still burst through late for victory. CHIPILLY gives Peter Fernie a genuine sniff at a first four in the Heat. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – JUST FAMOUS WIN Race 6 (Best Bet) PLEASE MIZTER is loving Jason Li. Led and won by 3.5L, led and won by 2.8L and is staying in the same grade over and over again with his 3kg claim. 51kg to 53kg and now to 55kg but the way he’s winning, good luck catching him! STYLIN’ won the $100,000 Provincial Championship Final at Belmont Park back in May and looked like the kind of mare who could go through 70+ grade and then head back to the metro area. Unfortunately, she’s somewhat underperformed (vs SP). Beaten at $1.85, $1.70 and $3.50 before running a solid minor splitting Too Darn Stormy and Marcos in a 60+ Graduation on Cup Day. Not racing at her absolute best but this is winnable. TACITO went through races like the Kambalda Cup, Goldrush, Coolgardie Sprint – better suited in these. MORE LIKELY was out classed in the 63+ on Cup Day. His prior run was really good. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – PLEASE MIZTER WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 2,3,4 1,2,3 1,2,3 2,4
